You guys I am sure have heard of this....

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/2010/09/03/2010-09-03_puppy_drowning_girl_found_by_bosnian_police_after_disturbing_video_released_.html

The red-hooded puppy pitcher has been busted.

Police in Bosnia said that they have located the girl who caused global outrage this week after an online video of her surfaced, showing the blonde hurling six crying puppies into a river one by one.

The name of the girl, who is a juvenile, has not been released. But she was found after tips were received from animal protection groups in the country, London's Telegraph reported on Friday.

Police said the girl's parents will now be questioned.

The underage girl is from Bugojno, a central Bosnian town with a population of approximately 50,000.

A girl who claimed to be the one from the video posted a separate apology video on YouTube, CNET reported. She identified herself as Katja Puschnik.

Under one video frame, the apology said, "I would like to appologize for my behavior. The puppies belonged to my grandma and she told me to get rid of them because they were only 3 days and were ill. They had parasites from their mother. I didn't knew exactly what to do so I thrown them in the river because it was a short death. I did not want to make them suffer. I am really sorry for this :-( "

I don't suggest watching the video, it's gawd awful.

Rage at an inhumane act taken out on innocent animals, or pity for a kid put in a situation they didint know how to resolve by an adult who should know better.

About to eat your Avatar...

The only thing that could make this story any worse, is if people actually took action on their own part to punish this teenager.

"It is a mirror of society and the fact that young people are doing such things shows how they have been raised," Ivanisevic said.

Oh, and that's freaking slowed. No it isn't a mirror, it's your outrage. Is there an epidemic of this in Bosnia? I fething doubt it.

I myself haven't seen the video. But I just want to point out. ALOT of people do this, because dog and cat populations are threw the roof.

At the SPCA in Kamloops they had some 200 cats. Most of them kitten's. It depressed me. Cause I imagine they put down most of them.

I know nobody will accept this argument, but what this girl did is really not all that terrible or unusual in certain settings.

People who live around a lot of animals, particularly farming people, are a lot more "practical" when it comes to the life and death of animals. As the girl said, the puppies were sick, most likely nobody had the means to help them, so they were killed. It happens all the time in farming communities. A cat has a litter of kittens, there's nothing to do with them, you put them in a sack with a rock and chuck them in the river. I've heard stories about it.

People want to be very self-righteous about this sort of thing, but I'd urge caution against judging in ignorance.

You ask "how could somebody do such a terrible thing?"

Well, how about if they've already watch three times that many puppies die of parasites, getting eaten by wild dogs, etc?

If you're looking at a puppy, and your life experience tells you that this puppy is going to die, one way or another, is it really humane to let it die slowly?

It's easy to judge when we're happy first world sophisticates. Bosnian farmers don't have so many options.

When I first read this, I found it hard to believe that there was indeed a place called "Kamloops." I mean, come on, "Kamloops"? Sounds like a dodgy, generic-brand breakfast cereal. But it's true. Wikipedia says almost ninety thousand people live there.

This is one of those rare occasions when it pays to remind people that living in the Western world is incredibly different from living in the rest of the world.

It's native for something. But most of the Native American names make me chuckle.

There is a few more sillier sounding ones.

My partner comes from a town in England called Tooting. As in, fart.

But back on topic, while I understand where you coming from Phryxis, it is not really relevent to this. Mercy killing is one thing, this is kind of another. You are right that bosnian farmers may not have many options, but I am pretty sure they have clubs or axes, or the ability to snap a tiny neck. A decapitation is a humane kill for a pup with no future. Tossing them in a river to die in agony and terror is at the other end of the spectrum, which is the issue.

Good point. No use in being morbid abut it, either. Life is short. Have some fun while doing "what must be done." And who wouldn't laugh while throwing yelping puppies into a river? Really, the self-righteousness of some people . . .

How old was the girl in question? It takes quite a bit of jading to willingly chop the head off of something; whereas a quick toss into the river nicely isolates one from the gory reality of the matter.

You know, Shadowbrand, I'm sick and tired of you firstworld sophisticates in Kamloops judging us poor rustics in the States. Maybe you can afford to love cats up there in the ivory tower of Canada but here in Virginia we have to live with our feet on the ground. Now hand me that bucket of kittens.

Well...anyone remember the marine who threw a puppy down a cliff?

We live in a (*****) up world, people (and animals) have certainly given a far more horrible and evil (?) death before.
