Tell me about how much you hate Space Marines, or perhaps whether you hate them at all!

Yes, this is only Space Marines that have their very own codex.

I figured with all of the "Why do we hate Ultramarines, Dakka?" threads we see, and all of the polls where the Wolves and Angels do quite well in the hate-standings, we may as well clear the air once and for all and decide, in the context of Dakka, which Space Marine chapter with a codex is the most reviled.

And yes, I count Codex: Space Marines as Codex: Ultramarines. I hope that's okay.

If it's not, get stuffed.

You got it wrong its not Space Wolves: Drunken werewolves are stupid.

Then GW replaced their Viking vibe, slowly but surely, with a Werewolf vibe.

Which is stupid.

Most of them. The old chaos dex proves you can squish them all in one! I dont care about codex profits sales!

Spacewolves: Overhyped rules with fething awful fluff.

Ultramarines...Oooh I hate those guys! They deserve the name "smurf".

How about all of them? I hate them all in general. They seriously need to be mashed into one codex with two or three pages of rules, a few different weapons and a special unit or two defining each separate chapter of marines. Instead they go to the ridiculous lengths they currently are to make what is still the same army look like it's a different army on paper, and purely on paper. GW just needs to admit that Bloody McBlood-Blood the Third (blood) and Lupus Von-wulf Canid really did not need an entire friggin book to themselves and that anybody that plays them doesn't even bother priming them much less painting them because as soon as a different codex gets updated they're going to just 'counts as' into the newest flavor of the month of the exact same army with a different book.

Put them all into one codex and let other armies get some of the love that they so desperately need.

I hate space wolves, their fluff is overrated, and what is it with the Wulfen and the lost etc...just annoys me when GW did that spin-off.

Blood angels, for fething hogging the Dark angels codex (blood angels was 3/4 of the Angels of Death 2nd edition codex) and because they are basically space vampires with a death wish. Just hurry up and kill the chapter already. Oh yeah and the Necron and BA friendly fight.

Ultramarines. For being so fricking conformist, and then having the audicity to call themselves PERFECT, when it was what they did that helped to spark the whole HH.

I don't particularly hate any of the Space Marine chapters, well aside from the smurfs but that's only because of the absolutely awful colour scheme (I hate the colour ultramarine) and even worse pun of a chapter name.

What I don't like about SM of any kind is how common they are, and yes I am aware that by having both Thousand Sons and Daemon Hunters armies I am being very hypocritical when I complain about the sheer number of SM (of and kind) armies there are out there.

Wolves are top of the list for me, not because I hate the range or the theme (although I would rather them stick to a more strict Norse theme), but the op of the dex is just friggin annoying.

After that there isn't really anything I can say negative about most marines. I don't like the generality of the Ultramarines but I kinda like painting the blue and gold.

I LIKE the fact that they are so common and there are so many stories and legends about the various chapters and that there are different schemes for what amounts to entirely different playstyles. I do wish however, that they would release more materials for the non-imperial armies with Craftworld codecies, better chaos dex with legion choices etc. I know the nonimperials arent so common so the chances of GW seeing that as a profitable market is slimmer than I'd like.

Codex: Imperials with all of the Marines, Guard, Daemon Hunters and Witch Hunters

Codex: The Other Guys

They will be 2” thick and run $100 a piece.

This little bit of sarcasm was just to get the point across, but if you were to combine all of the Marine Codex’s with all of the options and Fluff into one it would run about $75 and be bigger than the Rule Book.

I know there is a lot of Hate for Space Maries, I hate the Borg, sorry Necrons, but I don’t constantly tell every that I hate them.

Black templars. I just don't like anything about them. Too medieval.

Blood Angels. At least the units featured in Space Wolves aren't all stupidly broken.

I am started to hate the ubiquitous, "Which Space Marine is Bestest/Worstest" thread a lot more than I ever could despise a fictional army.

I dislike most space marines except Iron hands and Grey Knights.

All of the space marine chapters are boring as hell, but I prefer Blood angels but that still means their all bland and boring armies.

I think if I had to decide: Dark Angels. But in fact, all are fine.

What it your problem with nipples? Do you have similar issues with Hair or Fingers?

Dark Angels as ferocious warriors who have A DARK MYSTERIOUS SECRET which is not much of a secret, nor particularly unique: Not OK. The fact that some of them went rogue and they are obsessed with hiding it is rather like them staying miserably in the closet while everyone else is happily out, and getting gay married in the sun. It's 2010, man. It's OK, and you're OK. We accept you.

While all of the chapters have some cool aspects and some rather lame ones, unfortunately GWS has started letting them be defined by their lamer ones in the last few versions of the codexes (SW and BA) and never really had anything standout (UM).

I'm not a Marines player.

Blood Angels. They take my Khorne zerkers, do it better AND cheaper. Throw in some FnP because they can and oh look, two god aspects thrown in one unit. Make my Chaos dex feel silly for having such options why don't you. *grumble grumble*

Space Wolves...Space Furries who have become the staple flavor for the palate of every Fanboy who thinks he's cool because he's playing as "THE MOST BADASS CHAPTER EVAR!one!1!!" When in reality, the majority of the SW codex is so broken and ridiculous they should just change the name to "Codex: Marines With Cool Rules".

I don't really have a problem with any of the chapters character, fluff, history, and so on. They all have cool thematic archetypes involved.

I do hate the codex bias that exists though, and for that reason, blood angels, dark angels, black templars, and space wolves are all hated in my opinion.

I like the space wolf models and imagery, I like the dark angels wierd background, the blood angels odd flaws, and the templars medieval style... but I HATE that they all get a specialized codex.

As an Eldar player, I would love to see an Iyanden codex, Alaitoc codex, Saim-Hann codex, etc... but instead I just get an Eldar Codex and have to style my army to whichever craftworld just with the general army list, like if I want Saim Hann, I will get a lot of jetbikes to show it, etc.

But the craftworlds no longer get special unique rules to them, so why can't Space Wolves represent blood claws as assault marines without jump packs? Or grey hunters as tactical squads? (instead of superior yet cheaper versions of tactical with a slight weapon change)? Why can't the death company just be another assault squad led by a chaplain and painted black? All of the 'specialist' marine codex make me mad, spoiled with special rules, exceptions, bonuses.

When I first played 2nd, there were no codex, just 'marines' in the 'codex army lists' and if you want a particular flavor you just used those units that fit that flavor and painted it in that color scheme. I wish those days were still here. Spoiled specialized chapter codex are the most hated.

I just saw the poll results so far and I'm not surprised at all BA are on top. It has nothing to do with nipple armor IMO, it probably has more to do with them just getting their shiney new upgrade that makes them better in many ways to the vanilla codex and worse in just one (oooh combat squads... oh wait they get that too... um... no Calgar/Shrike ubercommand squad spam option... yeah that's about all I can think of). What surprised me is that Space Wolves weren't second for the same reason. Ultramarines may have boring fluff but that's why they have thousands of offshoot chapters that obey the same game rules as the boys in blue, but can have far more interesting backstories. It's the Codex I like because it is a balanced 'standard' you can customize your army to your taste and invent your own fluff, even if I don't find Ultramarines (specifically blue guys, not offshoots) interesting, I do like the idea of a standardized rules base. So why are they outscoring SW on the hate meter?

Blood Angels for me. I used to really like them, but the new codex is just full of too much weird stuff. They used to be codex chapter plus a thing or two, and now they're almost as far out there as Space Wolves. Wolves have always been a much different kind of Space Marine, so I'll give them a pass despite the silliness of Thunderwolf Cavalry. It just makes me dread what's going to happen to Dark Angels.

PS: 9/10 people who say they hate Ultramarines are really indifferent and just want to appear different, so they intentionally try to go against the grain. Just hating what's popular for attention's sake.

No, it won't. If all the craftworlds can be crammed into one codex all the chapters can be crammed into one codex. A Space Marine is a Space Marine is a Space Marine. If you want flavor X of them in the codex give it about two pages of force organization changes, a few special weapons and a few special rules. Heck go all out and add in some special characters too just to be generous. Ta-dah! You have whatever chapter your little heart desires and look at that, it isn't almost half the books in THE ENTIRE GAME.

I also would like "and the kitchen sink" type codex for marines that covers them all like Chaos had a few additions ago. They should get one too. I know neither will happen.

Personally, I like the fluff for about every army out there, GW has been trrying hard to make it as 3-d as possible lately.

I just dont like the color scheme.

Okay... i dislike the bright shiny "vampires" and the ...errrr.... "supossed monks"? (DA) as for fluff as for lists, Ultras.... well, apart of the fact that the colour scheme burns my eyes.. (how you can go to war with this) for some reason i don't like them... following a book without having proper initiative... no... that's not good... apart, IMO, fluff is awful as the other two before mentioned... ( for more shame, Black Corsairs must be vanilla... unlike the raging sneaky warriors they was on the previous codex). Imperial fists? feth...no, imo the only good thing thay did is split the legion and from this one, came the black Templars


SW? never mind to me, the list is good, but i don't like too much, i like the "viking look & behavior" but nothing more.

Black Templars.... well tha crazy people is the "canon" chapter i like more, the fluff and the way of playing, pity they aren't actualised, a bunch of crazy badass zealots!!!

I should point out that I'm not that fond of Ultramarines and yet my space marines are 50% Ultramarines. I started with AOBR, didn't know any other chapter really, and once I had started I didn't want to toss away the investment of painting time and money that was my 10 marines, my 5 terminators, and my dreadnought - so subsequent purchases were also UM's to match... and so on. I suspect many people that are Ultramarine players went this route.

If I could turn back time, I'd go Salamanders or possibly Dark Angels.
