I would love for them to have that, aslong with the Orks, Nids and any other faction out there. Back in fist edition White Dwarf would put out 1d6 such each year, it was great.

I love the Ultramarines. They somehow pulled it off to make an Army Interestingly Uninteresting. The Fluff for them isn't absolutly insane.
What I don't like is how every other SM army has be to so DRASTICILY Different when they use the a majority of the same stuff.
Blood Angels used to be a Chapter with a Geneseed flaw. That was very simple and very interesting. Now they are the CRAZY NIPPLE SPACE VAMPIRES!
Space Wolves were Space Vikings with some very light wolf traits. Now they are Space Werewolves with some very light Viking traits.
Black Templars/Dark Angels don't count yet. They haven't been blessed* with new fluff yet.
Out of all the Chapters, I think I hate the Blood Angels the most just because they are SO riduculous now.
*See Blood Angels.

Space Wolves, probably because they are the most Mary Sue of all chapters (maybe barring GK) and get away with anything, it's ok for them to be all "down with the system" but that shouldn't interfere with other faction's fluff. Like the Ecclesiarchy letting them go off the hook, the =][= should be all over these idiots.
Also Vikings are are about as lame as Chuck Norris jokes. Unless of course you think an entire culture based on rape and pillaging was A-OK.

The fact that both of those are crimes in most countries would lead me to believe they aren't.
Also Greenland is icy and Iceland is green, I guess the vikings failed there too!

I guess it depends how far back into human history you go. Evolutionary-wise it's a good idea to rape the women of rival tribes, factions, societies, etc. especially in times of war. Spread yo genes and yo lovin'!
That said I would bet that those were still crimes in most places (the civilized ones at least) around when the vikings were partying hard.
Perhaps I should have said they thrived on these actions rather than were based upon them.

I would advise to refrain from that bet.
Armies had the right to do a lot of nasty things , centuries after the vikings were only history.....

Vikings were stupidly short sighted in their short lived terrorist history. Werewolves are part of gay chick flicks for 13 year old chicks and their emo boyfriends nowadays, The Roman Empire failed due to arrogance and self-absorbed hedonistic ways. Medieval Europe was full of hippocritical bastard religious superstition and marred with the ignorance and persecution, filth and disease, and, oh yeah and crusades and religious party line drawing that goes with such a thing...

I don't know what this post is attempting to achieve, but it's awful.
I find it really funny to criticize medieval religious beliefs when it's one of the ideals that 40k is based on, as if it's somehow out of place. While we're at it, knights weren't nice guys either like they are in the storybooks. They'd just as soon pillage and loot as the vikings would.
What I'm trying to say is you guys shouldn't be getting your knickers in a twist about Space Vikings in a silly game full of Space Knights, Space Slavers, Space Fascists and Space Medieval Christianity. Cool your collective jets.

They did eat fish. It's pretty popular in Scandinavian cuisine. The settlement didn't last long. But this was back when the east was the place to go.
Greenland is technically part of North America and was a successful colony.

Hmm my college professor told me the main reason the NA Viking settlement failed was that the specific group of vikings didnt eat fish
He said if any other viking was there, there would have been vikings/native american wars! (and thendisease breaks out)

This is interesting I'll have to look up some stuff.
No offense, but very little as a whole is known of the Vikings or other Pagan groups like the Celts or Picts.
A lot of the information we have now is false, in the 1800's writers made romanticized books and what not. Possibly where the idea of horned viking helmets came from.
And spoken word. Passed down from generation to generation. And wasn't Erik the Red the guy who settled there? He was a exiled for having a bad temper I imagine his follower's weren't all that well geared for the Americas. :S

I love what Space Marines stand for, no matter who they are and even accept the elements of fluff that don't quite make sense all the time. I think even in a grimdark world we need some heroes. (Even though I believe the real heroes are the IG)

Whoa hey sorry guys. I was just attempting a bit of humorous dialogue with the cultural remarks. I don't 'hate' any of them, just pointing out that they are all based on some Earth culture from somewhere in history that was obviously flawed and that we as a human civilization are more advanced culturally than any of them. Sorry to single out the Templars as a humorous example, I didn't mean to offend any medieval christians who might be reading this.
