Hey all, here's my two latest pieces...
First is a re-posed objective marker for the give-away on the P&M Blog board. Originally, he was dead, now he's been revived and is hanging on, reaching out or looking to get a spot in a dread or something, I guess. When I chopped his arm off, it went flying across the room and I lost it X(, so I had to re-do it from scratch.
The second one is my first champion. He got artificer'd up with some anatomical plating, a scratch made power weapon and a few laurels. I really like him, and hope you do too. His bionic arm would be some sort of counts-as flamer (I don't play or know the rules, I just sculpt, lol) and once I get around to getting some guitar strings I'll connect it up to the tank on his back.
Let 'er rip boys.... give me your C&C.

great stuff, but I think the hood on the second guy looks a bit daft. it needs some ripples and to be more droopy imo. other than that its looking great.

The hood on the second guy looks kind of odd, but the objective marker looks great!

I didn't think of it as a cloth hood, more of it being part of the armor - fully plated around the head, and helmet even.
Thanks for the comments though!

The first one is awesome.
Good GS work on both... Every time I see stuff like I wanna go get those sculpting tools I never bothered to buy and try my hand at the modeling side of things.
I can't really say about the 2nd guy. He looks a little wonky without pauldrons. His body is just really massive with regards to the rest of his limbs/backpack; it makes him look uncoordinated. But it's obviously WIP, so don't think I don't like the direction he's going. He definitely has a lot of promise.

Thanks, Xcaliber. Yea, I forgot to tack the pauldrons on for the pics. The decorated one is in the little inset pic to give you an idea, though.
So, you think the arms and legs look off? I'm still trying to figure out a process for scratch making some leg wraps and stuff to jazz up his lower half.

I like the hood. That's how I envision a psychic hood, part of the armor (aegis circuitry, if the Soul Drinkers are to be believed). Looks badass, both of them.

nice work so far. did you use grenades as fingers, or if this is not a scratchbuilt hand what is ist for? concerning this arm also i think it is to slim and too long compared to the body...
and for his weapon: try to sand it into a sharp edge when it is fully cured. as for now it looks to blunt for me. i at first thought too that his hood looked strange, but then it dawned on me that it has to be a kind of neckarmor...interisting idea. one question : what is dangling between his legs? it looks kind of to me like he has to carry his soap with him^^
i think you should make your greenstuff slimmer, thats mighty words from someone who couldnt put himself together enough to get his own greenstuff out^^. have to find currage^^
good luck with your conversions!

Thanks Ordo!
Viktor, I lol'd at the soap comment, XD! It's just a little medal or some sort of signet/placard. It started as a circle, but was too big, so I chopped the edges off and made it, admittedly soap-like in shape, lol. I'm practicing my emblem sculpting, future versions will probably be a little bit more intricate than this one. The axe blade is actually pretty thin. It was thin when I sculpted it, then it's been sanded down considerably since then, and is about as sharp as you can hope to get GS. Maybe it just looks thick from the angles in the pics. I made extra effort to make sure it was thinner than my last scratch made GS weapon. I'll take a look and see if it can't get sharper looking.
Also, the mech arm is converted from the melta bomb and grenades (for fingers) off of the assault marine sprue and would count-as a heavy flamer or something. It's a bit long, but hey, I'm not sure they would strive for proper scale when attaching a flame thrower to some guy's arm stump.

lol a flamer on an arm stump... firepirate^^
as for decorating and practice i recommend whatwhats tutorial in greenstuffing.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242387.page
opened my mind a blow or two^^
as for the blade, well in a wip pic the greenstuff tends to look somewhat twodimensional, when painted i guess that will definitly change. well that said i hope we see it painted pretty soon, we are of a consumer orientated nature... us the civilisation^^
good work^^ move on to new shores^^

With the hood, I'd suggest some decoration (cables running front to back, maybe?) to make it clearer that it's part of the "hard" armour.
Though I guess once painted that will be obvious...
Overall, I love both of 'em!

I like them both, at first I was a bit taken back by the hood on the second one but stopping for a moment and having a good look at it I enjoy it
a nice variation for the Arti armor.
I agree with whats been said above about it though. Add some piping or wiring to show it as an obvious hard shell hood maybe add the indents like the hood around a terminator head to give the band detail.

I'll think about adding something to the hood, it is a bit bare. I played around with spicing up the edge (you can see the super glue in some pics) but wasn't happy with the results. Cables or some paneling are a possibility. Thanks for all the comments.
I saw that tutorial, and I still can't pull off the chain, lol. Personally, I like to roll my ropes after twisting them to even out the surface but leave the ridges. Still, one hell of a tut.
Thanks again guys.

The first one is pretty cool, but man, the second one... what the heck is going on there? The sculpting quality is fine but the composition is just... what?

The "hood" armor looks totally out of place, without the shoulder pads its worse i'm sure but still is likely way too big. The bionic hand doesn't look like it could manipulate anything. The power weapon is strangely shaped, looks like a tzeentch symbol, and is way too long to be held from the very end of the shaft. And I don't really know what's going on with the huge fuel tank are the thing hanging from his belt.

The ideas are good, but your greenstuff work is quite bulky, don't be tempted to use a lot of greenstuff for a small job. That cape for example, could be half its current width. The posing and battle damage is very nice though.

someone didn't read the post, lol! in summary, the "hand" would be some sort of counts-as flamer, the tank would be the fuel, I just haven't attached the tube yet. Sorry you're not down with the armored hood or the axe though... Automatically Appended Next Post: Zoom, I gotta agree, the cape did end up getting thick. I started with a wire mesh (I'm used to needing armatures/support and didn't realize I probably wouldn't need it for this one) and it ended up bulking up quite a bit.

I read the post, it doesn't look like a flamer either
I thought you were trying to go for a flamer/hand look, since it has 4 digits.

The flamer could use a chamber, even if it will be massive. Chambers let you know that it's a weapon.
The hood should have runes... runes are cool, and it fits with the mysterious theme of the miniature. The power weapon shaping is quite fitting for the model, a longer blade perhaps but the half moon look is working for me.
