Not sure if this should be here, since dakka duscussions says nothing related 40k/ FB, so anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows where are the minis made?, i mean i know they are from citadel miniatures, which is somehow part of GW, but where is it?, why does ti doesn't have a webpage on its own?, Do they really manufacture the minis?, like talking about mass production?, or do they only do the sculpts and then get another company to mass them?, If they don't and they do their own mass miniatures where in the world is their factory?
Just curious since i've been having this dream as many i guess about working on something related to WH40k, and since i'm not an artist to apply for any job at GWHQ related to artwork or sculpts my other option is either mass production way, being an engineer and actually working on an iron foundry, shouldn't be so crazy to move from that to minis , or some administrator job thingie, however surfin around the net i always see GW asking for either artists or office jobs, so just curious where is citadel miniatures in all of this?, wouldn't mind fleeing mexico

As far as I'm aware they are made at Warhammer World in Lenton (no idea if US has it own factory - edit it would seem so, see below) and partially the reason you never see jobs for them, is they very rarely come up.
Some of the longest running vets GW have, work in the foundry.

Metals and most figs are made in england, lots of terrain is made in china.
Usually, plastics are easily made, the major part are the forms.
-put the forms in,
-adjust machine/load program,
-connect granulate feed,
-hit start button,
-collect sprues.
I am sure all employees have to sign a NDA.
The interesting jobs IMo:
-writing rules ( gets you tons of praise at dakka...)
-sculpting minis ( another way to be praised...or danmed..)
-translating sculpts to forms ( should be a rare job and well paid )
-packing the sprues ( maybe the job youre asking for )
-retail ( selling the 'well' priced minis and believing in the company...)
If you want it officially, GW sometimes has a video at their GD with the whole process shown.

I believe there are two factories for production; One in Lenton, Nottingham, England, while the other is in Memphis, Tennessee, US.

Yeah the metals are made at GW HQ, Nottingham. Ive been on a tour round the place, there is a window at the back of the shop where you can see them casting the models.
Automatically Appended Next Post: im not sure if they make the plastic ones there, though i only saw the moulds for the metal models. But this was 1998 i think, so they might make plastic ones there now.

They are all made at the same place. Mostly due to the lack of updated machinery for casting available to the UK. They are using some very, very old machines and with only one factory afaik.

yeah it was like a big pewter casting wheel with the moulds inside, in a tiny room at the back of the shop.

No, as stated above, GW has two production facilities, one in England, the other in Memphis TN, USA.

They used to subcontract the plastics moulding for figs to another [undisclosed] company, but BOUGHT that injection moulding company last financial year.
Now they are looking at buying out the die manufacturer who makes their injection moulding dies for them as well.
[Note, this has NOTHING to do with DICE manufacture, they buy them from Chessex like most everyone else. A die is also a name for the steel 'mould' used in injection moulding and they are generally used in pairs, so dies.]
