The first battle here.

"My Lord," says High Priest Blackheart, "I fear that our victory is but a small respite. This is not over yet."

"Ah...our psykers cannot get through to the Ordos Xenos. Something is blocking our communications channel," chimes in High Priest Loki.

"My Lord, in the case we are overrun by their next attack, we must prepare for the worst. We must consider the inconceivable and also prepare for your evacuation," exclaims High Priest Goldmoon.

"I thank you, Council of the Triumvirate, for your wise counsel, but I will not leave this planet that Logan has left in my charge," retorts Ragnar. "You may call for Exterminatus, but I will hold them off here for as long as I can until reinforcements arrive. All is not lost. If this is just a splinter fleet, then we may still have a chance. They know not that they face the Sons of Russ, and we will fight them until the last of our dying breaths."

"Then we will stay here with you. If we can hold them off until Lord Grimnar's ship returns, then we may not need to enact Exterminatus," says Blackheart.

"Then it is settled," cries Ragnar, barely able to contain his excitement. "Let us ready for war. It is they who started it and it shall be us who finishes it."

-------------------------------------------

Meanwhile in space:

Dominatrix: "The bio-mass of this planet has proven to be quite stubborn. They have repelled our first wave."

Swarmlord: "Then let me lead the second wave. I shall crush the one called Ragnar and then we shall consume their planet."

Dominatrix: "Yes, my child. Go forth and assimilate. For the Queen...."

-------------------------------------------

The first match was between my brother's Tyranids and my Space Wolves ended up as a crushing defeat for the nids. This time, I will use the list that I think matches up best against my Space Wolves. Still working on the batrep. Hopefully, I can finish it and post it up by tomorrow. In the meantime, a little preview.

I kept the entire tyranid army in reserves. Then on turn 2, every single tyranid unit comes in.

Yes, it would've been perfect if only the genestealers hadn't come in from the wrong table edge, despite the re-roll from the Swarmlord.

swarmlord walks on? seems like an odd waste of him.......any smart opponont would avoid him like the plauge, and putting him in reserve makes that a lot easier to do

Well, we were playing Capture and Control and I didn't want to deploy him on the board (along with tyrant guard and termagants for the cover) to eat every heavy weapon and drop-podding melta-wolf guards on Turn 1. He didn't make it into action until I believe turn 4, but once he got there, he was a 1-man wrecking crew.

Not really. That's only 5 big bugs at 2500pts (not counting the spores). My other list has 7 at 2500.

I got them off ebay. I believe they are made of foam and airbrushed. They look pretty organic and disgusting....just the look I was going for!

Shoot. We both forgot about that one. Thanks for bringing it up. Even though they only fail on a 6, with the trygon, flyrant and swarmlord there, there's a 50% chance that 1 may fall. Might have made a difference....

It seems like shadows would've made a big difference, of course there wasn't much on the table that seemed to have too low of an initiative (Trygon is I4, Tyrant is....I forget, but it's up there)

Still, a great report! My friend is convinced nids can't beat wolves, I'll have to show him this.

It's not impossible for nids to beat space wolves. It all depends on the type of build. Generally, nids have problems with rune priest+long fang-spam, especially if they go heavy with hive guards, tervigons and t-fexes. It's an issue of matchup, and that type of space wolf build is a paper to a Tyranid rock army.

To counter it (or minimize it), you need:

1) Minimal number of low-I units.

2) A way to get close to minimize enemy shooting.

These just happens to be the strength of a Tyranid All-reserves army.

jariksolo wrote:victory to hive fleet pandora dont you mean victory to swarmlord and friend its all that was left for the nids

Swarmy wouldn't have been able to do it had the rest of the army not seriously depleted SW firepower+assault capabilities. Tyranids, though, were lucky game didn't end on turn 5.
