So, an American version of Being Human... is there really a need? What's wrong with the British version?

http://io9.com/5636367/first-teaser-for-the-american-being-human-series

Why the need to turn shows into US versions? We didn't feel compelled to make a UK version of The Sopranos or Lost?

Im guessing because its British? I can tell ya that if you just mention its a British show, Americans just tune you out. I think it stems from Mr.Bean..........We hate Mr. Bean

The US version of Monty Python was so awesome!

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Gathering the Informations.

Blame the BBC.

Before BBC America launched, the BBC was okay selling air rights for the new episodes of their shows to the SciFi channel.

Now, it's a case of no American TV network can air BBC programming "as new", unless they actually developed it themselves. It's why you'll only see Doctor Who/Torchwood/whatever reruns, but no "new" episodes anymore.

You can see new episodes of Who on BBCA! You just have to wait two weeks

Doesn't Graham Norton air new episodes on BBCA though? Or are those like 2 weeks old as well?

I love British shows. The IT Crowd is one of my most favorite shows ever.

also...question...you have your own version of History Channel over there, right? I stream it all of the time...saw too awesome specials on the Underground...

if not History Channel, then Modern Marvels.

In the 70's there were British shows "Americanized", such as Sanford and Son, taken from the British show Steptoe and Son.

Here's a list of British shows taken for U.S. television:

It's because the producers of the original show can potentially get more money out of a remake. For example Ricky Gervais gets money from the successfull american remake of the office without having to lift a finger. Considering they are now up to about the sixth series of the US version I would guess he has made more than he would have done rerunning the original two British series in America. A lot more.

I don't have a TV package that gets BBCA so I was hanging at my parents house for an hour on Saturdays to catch the new Who episodes. The commercials for Being Human looked interesting, but not worth more random time hanging out in the parents basement. When SyFy started advertising Being Human, I assumed it was going to be reruns of the BBC show in the same manner they've run Dr Who, Primevil, ect in the past. Oh well, if I've never seen the original, then the American version can't be worse by comparison.

Why, it's full of British, of course.
