I've noticed that a lot of people on dakka don't use the quote function very often. They usually just hit "reply" and leave it up to everyone else to figure out what they are responding to.
I'm not talking about posters who reply directly after a new post is posted, but those who do so well into a discussion. Idk...just irks me.

Occasionally a thread will be off topic and a response to the OP is necessary.
I cannot get the 'Multiquote' to work on this and some other frequented forums... so I go without and address posters individually if I can be bothered.

Quoting other people's posts is stupid unless they've contradicted themselves somewhere. If you're using it as a way to address another poster, then simply addressing them by name suffices.
The way I see it is that if you can't compose a post without resorting to quote-clipping, you don't have opinion worth reading because you're missed the forest for the trees.

@Nurgy: That's a rather arbitrary and draconian method for determining post worth. I'm a firm advocate of multiquoting. It's the only way, imo, to cogently deal with multiple topics in the same thread. The real jerks in my book are thw ones who quote the entire thread only to make some unrelated point that did not require quoting at all, such as I just did.

I just middle-click on the "Quote" button for each post, then copy-and-paste the quoted text into a single reply window. It's less useful here, though, since quote boxes do not provide a link to the original post like it does on most forums.

Multiple quotations in a thread is annoying, absolutely agree HMBC!
Multiquotes are a pain in the pixels. The dreaded pale blue wall!
Regurgitating whole posts, especially those containing pictures, is very inconsiderate imho.
Especially after the umpteenth regurgitation. All nourishment has already been removed.
Please don't to it.
Please be selective, it takes very little time to edit out the repetition.

Well, I could have gone and quoted the entire thread, but I fear the Mods may be watching...... And hell, I've seen more quotes in a thread before. EDIT: It took considerably longer to scroll up the page than I thought, then it seemed even longer on the way back down. I'd warn the others, but I just...can't...make it.
