Scary topic, but, I would have to say definitely drowning, I'm a chronic asthmatic and i've heard that drowning is very akin to having an accute attack, and whilst it's not comfortable or pleasant the pain is bearable until you pass out gulping for breath.

Nearly every single time I've almost died, it's been from some sort of suffocation, and I'd still prefer to drown ten times over before I was ever burned alive.
The real question should be whether you wanted to be frozen alive or burned to death, as they're on opposite ends of the spectrum and include nerve damage that's at least somewhat similar.

Don't panic just relax and it'll be over quite peaceful if you drown that is, I imagine it would be hard to relax while burning to death? although the monk on the front of rage against the machines album looks pretty calm!.....the power of inner strength eh!

That was actually done in protest to the Vietnam War.

Drowning is almost certianly less painful. I would also prefer to freeze to death than burn to death. I've heard that it can be reletively pain free (epseicially compared to being set on fire).
The only way I would like to burn to death is if the smoke had already knocked me out before the flames reached me.
I'd have someone light the water on fire, then drownnolate myself in burning water. That way, if I don't die from lack of oxygen, I'll still get it good from the flames
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
From the point of the exercvise you cannot escape your fate, the obvious first solution. So you might as well direct it. I would say fire because as you have a choice you can get to choose properly. Choose a really really hot fire, like a proper high temperature turbo fan incinerator, or an ore smelter. You want a hot smelter too, a Bessemer furnace for molten steel not the far less hot lead smelter. Thus you go from human to ash in a second or two and die in the first moment of the process. Climb in the incinerator while its cool and off, and die when the switch is hit, or get suddenly dropped in an active smelter.
You are still alive when water fills your lungs, it is at that point you start to suffocate. Those who have experienced near drowning havent really experienced drowning in most cases, they experienced the shortness of breath .
Drowning is still far preferable to a slow drawn out burning though like the stake or a petrol job.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
