Hey guys, my bro and I have some rivalry when it comes to 40K, but we have recently decided to start a combined Blood Angels army. I'm getting loads of Death company and Astorath,
and he's getting Sanguinary guard and the Sanguinor. I would really like to know which hero you guys think is better and why?
Thanks

Umm. Well, I look at is this way:

Astorath has a far more interesting back story (IMHO)

The Sanguinor would most likely beat Astorath into the dirt if they met in single or retinue combat.

When I first saw Astorath I thought he was an updated Mephiston model

When I first saw the Sanguinor I thought it was an updated Dante Model

So all considered .... I vote for Ghazgkull

Thats kinda of a wash, if none had the charge, I would put my vote on Astorath cause higher odds of wounds and making Sanguinor reroll his invul.

My vote would go to a grot.

However, i'd seriously look at other characters more.
Dante allows for a precision strike anywhere you need it.
Tycho gives your antire army LD10.
If you want a combat monster then think about mephiston.

Astorath has his uses, and those are mainly to give out FC to unit, and thats where it ends.

Sanguinator is simply a combat monster, who cant join units, so he is left on his own.
He would however slaughter astorath in combat.

What about the awesome guy with the long chain sword? Auto hits at str 8. He is pretty much the only BA character i like.

Sanguinor is "simply" a combat monster if you ignore half his special rules. He can be a great force multiplier, and he basically gives you another HQ unit with his Sergeant buff.

That said, Astorath's probably the safer choice, though more mundane, choice.

And yes, he would destroy Astorath in combat, along with most other ICs that I can think of.

Yeah, Seth's pretty terrible. Not reliable against...well, anything, except perhaps vehicles. He can charge 5 Guardsman, make all his hits, make all his wounds...and fail to kill any of them simply 'cause he lets them have an armor save.

Guy's, we are pretty set on the two sides of the same coin type army.
Since you can only have 2 HQ, we don't really want to get any other hero's or IC's.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

Right behind you. No, really.

I think Astorath is the smarter choice personally.

Astorath gives you the red thirst on 3, 2, or 1, which is good. Downside, is your brothers guys will get it too. Also, Sanguinary guards can score, where Death company never can.

Astorath lets you have multiple squads a death co. but can be pricey. Also lets them re-roll hits and wounds(with some power weapons that's deadly.)The Sanguinor while being by himself can never be instant killed and will become a big distraction jumping all over the board.

The Sanguinius: because you wished your primarch rocked this hard!
