Man this is going to be bad I can tell, but I felt I needed to defend the vampire image a lil bit and give others the chance to vent there feelings... good or bad.

Now im going to say a good majority of people dont like the new blood angels or never liked the vampire theme that went along with the army itself. Really I believe its just because they dislike the army and how "OP" the new dex is. Never had a problem with them when they were just a pdf did you? I personally havent seen it do anything amazing and believe both IG AND SW are superior. So to find a good bandwagon topic to demasculate and insult the army they equated their vampire theme with the disgustingly popular "Twilight" novels. Its taken on this whole internet life of its own were its the cool kids in school thing to do.

Really?! when you think of vampires you think of twilight? wt ? I dont mind the BA codex, always been a flesh tearers fan for the bad guys playing for the good guys theme, but never a big blood angels fan. But really I think the whole blood/vampire theme is unique and cool for SM. What ever happened to the cool vampire referances? HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER SEEN BRAM STROKERS DRACULA?! AWSOME!!! Blade (1...and only 1), underworld (1...and only 1), van helsing, LOST BOYS, the list of great or decent vampire flicks goes on, and your all hung up on twilight twinkle vampires?! Take VLAD THE IMPALER put him in power armor give him a bolter and chainsword, and send him on the battlfield... that is epic!

Once uppon a time vampires were these awsome villinous yet seductive creaters that we could look at and go "man I wish i could live forever, seduce hot women on a whim, and have those cool superpowers" all while being the bad guy. but no, now they are these winy, emo, love dovey, twinkling, pop culture icons.

I say dont let the whole twilight thing ruin the image for you. Be a proud BA player. Don your high collared cape, slicked back black hair, and "bleh bleh" fangs, and go forth and be creatures of the night once agian!

And one last question... why dont warhammer fantasy vampire counts have this identity problem?

I think most of us Space Puppy Players think the "Twilite" thing is funny becouse they are picking on you and leaving us alone [.a little].
Personly I don't think they are "Sparkly Marines" and that Bram is the right theme for them.

That is essentially the problem. The models are exceptionally pretty, and not at all scary. What separates the good old vampires from the new ones is that they were absolutely terrfiying and hideous when they went to suck your blood. Without that terrifying element, any recent vampiric activity inevitably is compared to Twilight.

But was he not one of the most badass in deeds? Wailing on bloodthirsters and charging horus himself knowing he would die. thats pretty intense.

And I dont play blood angels. In fact your only proveing my point, with all the refreances to sparkling vampires and direct images of the ball movie itself.

Now a good point was that they are the "pretty" SM's in a grim dark future. This does bug me. The blood angels have the shining golden roman nipple/rippling ab armor, while everyone else has either dark colors, battle damage, spikes, wartorn, ect. Think this generates thier bad rep too. Why I play flesh Tearers rather than BA, its the hard core part of saguinius with out the artsie pretty crap.

That's how I see it.

And don't get me wrong, Sanguinius was a badass. Breaking a Bloodthirster over your knee is no minor feat. But he had glorious golden hair waving in the wind whilst he did it. That's a direct flight from badass to narmy without stopping to refuel.

Yeah, you've got it now. The 'Pretty Vampire', with all of its modern connotations, has become inextricably linked to the pretty vampire Space Marines. It doesn't help that they acquired a deus ex machina savior character, or acquired a habit of fist-bumping necrons. The codex is incredible from a rules standpoint, but has sucked all of the life out of the fluff section. In short, it's a bloody mess. Doesn't make the army bad, but it is something you'll hear about when you game.

Just like you will at some point be asked to Waaagh if you play Orks, or drink beer until you pass out if you play Space Wolves. Oh, it might not come up every game- but your opponent is thinking it. Many codexes come with no social ties, but some of them do carry certain expectations.

Astorath doesn't look pretty to me. Have you seen the way he is painted in the codex? He looks like a flying ghoul about to feast on his foes. Mephiston's mini looks pretty grim to me as well. I gues its all about how you paint the miniatures. I guess the focus this tiem around was the whole shining angelic host thing for Blood Angels. We need look no farther than the Sanguinor to see that.

Actually, I'm curious about that. Where's the reference to the unholy bromance between Necrons and Edward Marines Nipple Marines Blood Angels? I know it exists, but I can't remember where exactly it is.

Meh. I like to pretend all this glitzy daftness never actually happened and that good ol' Sanguinius was a badass, just like in the old days. Say what you will, OP, but when the Space Wolves came out at least they kept to their original theme of Vikingness... mostly. There are, of course, exceptions.

Sorry but this is untrue. They've strayed far from being Space vikings of awesome. Their now just space werewolves. Every other thing is wolf something. And I played them in thier last codex before the current.

Well if they hadn't done that annoying little thing where they name everyone Wolfenstein McWolfborn and have them wield the Wolf Sword of Canine Wolfpower, while riding a Thunderwolf (that one notably NOT EXAGGERATED) while wearing a Wolf Tooth Necklace of Wolfitude...
