So, my holidays are over, and i have to go through the ordeal of finding a job again as i quit the last one to get 2 free months. Totally worth it, though.

However, during my sightseeings in Portugal, i came across this picture. It translates as "Homage to the people of this town who died defending Ultramar". You can imagine my face upon seeing it. So i looked it up and, apparently, the Portuguese Colonial war is also known as Guerra do Ultramar (the Ultramar War). Oh well, it seems the Ultramarines ARE everywhere after all *sigh*...

Anyway, it's good to be back Dakka.

Because Ultramarine is a GW copyrighted word it is amazing that it should pop up in other contexts.

Yes but Ultramar was copyrighted before GW was in existence. Plus it belongs to Valero, which spends more money on toilet paper in the employee restrooms than GW makes. Plus, they have lots of lawyers and know how to wage legal wars for real.

lol

Ultramarine is as we all know, a type of blue paint.
True ultramarine is made from lapis lazuli (the blue rocks) which was used by the Egyptians for small statues, jewelry and the blue in King Tut's sarcophagus.

Was traditionaly the blue used in Mediaeval paintings to make the paint for the Virgin's robe and more expensive than gold used.

Oh and guess where it comes from?

@Chibi Bodge-Battle:

Yes, i had heard about the Colonial War a little while talking to Portuguese natives, but i had never heard the "Guerra do Ultramar" name, everyone was calling it "A guerra colonial", so i read the article on Wikipedia. It's there where i got the info from, before posting the thread.

@Ediin: The postage is photoshopped, i actually googled it. Cheater!

However, to all of you who have posted here, nice info! I didn't half the stuff about that. Keep it coming. 10X!

There is video of that somewhere, I recall seeing it back in the day. I think the guy who built it did it for a school project (or maybe just for fun). Had a small diesel in it IIRC and it actually functioned/drove.

That said, the car in picture was indeed crushed by a Rhino.

Somewhere between 2-3k Marines of the "NOT THE F'N SPACE WOLVES" chapter.

You don't have to convert an M113 into a Rhino, it already is one.
