The GW troops are incredibly ugly. Kasrkins are the best looking models that they produce that I could actually use as troops, but at $41.25 they aren't too much cheaper than the $57 Elysian Drop Troop squads. I also hate dealing with metal. I find plastic and resin a lot easier to paint. I'm really only interested in putting together a platoon sized IG element. A Company Command Squad + 4 10m veteran squads.

I've never dealt directly with Forge World before, how are they?

What about the normal GW models dont you like? If you dont like the faces, then just grab some good old green stuff and turn there faces into visors.

The Catachans just look terrible to me and the Cadians are too blocky. I'm pretty meh with green stuff to begin with.

Well the only alternative would be the metal figures offered. (Steel Legion, Vostroyan, Valhallan, Tallarn etc). What about Cadians with respirators?

Get Guard and buy heads for them from somewhere else. Everybody does it.

A platoon sized Guard army is like 300 points.

GW sells those metal figures from their website, under the collector's tab in Imperial Guard.

Eh, they're okay. I'm probably just going to cough up the cash and order from Forgeworld.

By platoon sized I meant like 4 Veteran Squads. I like the D-99 rules, but the fact they can't use the Taros makes me a sad panda.

could try these nice and cheap prolly not as detailed as GW stuff but I tend to find when Im standing 3-4ft above he table anyway I dont really give a rats ass about how crisp the detail is

I'm very wary of GW knock off sites...

They're not a GW knock off site, or company. They make multi-part plastics and make some sci-fi minis.

Pig Iron does some cool gas masked heads that are compatible with Guardsmen bodies.

And there is always Death Korps.

I'm leaning towards Elysian troops. I was interested in the Kasrkin because they could be decent stand ins for the Elysians.

My main interest in making this type of army is that it will be fairly unique. Too many people out at my LGSs running around with Space Marines and Orks.

So true. Well you you'd be pretty damn unique if you made a regiment of Praetorians!

In all seriousness. Some of the older pewter models are pretty awesome. I myself am a fan of the old school Cadians.

You can always collect Elysians or Death Korps of Krieg, but green stuff would be optional too.

If you're a good converter at least.


If I would collect IG, I would do Tallarn or Valhallans.
