Hey y'all. Me and a friend have decided to get our collective kiesters together and work on a unique force for a Doubles tourney in the next few months. I will be using a small Ironwing army(counts as Space Wolf Wing) and he will be using Vanilla marines of a homebrew chapter. But enough of my blather, lets see some stats!

When reading this, bear in mind that we have 1000 points each, and 1 force Organization chart to share. We aren't trying to build an unbeatable army, but He likes Dreads, I like Mechwing, so we're gonna try to mesh them.

HQ:

Logan Grimnar:
275 pts

Master of the Forge with Conversion Beamer and Bike
155 points

Elites

Iron Clad Dreadnought with Chainfist, DCCW and Heavy Flamer
145 points

Iron Clad Dreadnought with Chainfist, DCCW and Heavy Flamer
145 points

Iron Clad Dreadnought with Chainfist, DCCW and Heavy Flamer

Heavy Support:

Dreadnought with Power Fist and Assault Cannon, Extra Armor
130 points

Dreadnought with Power Fist and Assault Cannon, Extra Armor

Dreadnought with Power Fist and Assault Cannon, Extra Armor
130 points

Troops:
Wolf Guard Pack(Logan will join this Squad)
WGT with Frost Weapon and Storm Shield
WGT with Frost Weapon and Storm Shield
WGT with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield
WGT with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield

Dedicated Transport: Land Raider

492 points total

Wolf Guard Pack:
WGT with Combi-Plasma and Power Weapon
WGT with Combi-Plasma and Power Weapon
WGT with Storm Bolter and Power Weapon
WGT with Storm Bolter and Chain Fist
WGT with Storm Bolter and Power Weapon, Melta Bombs

Dedicated Transport: Drop Pod

225pts

Total, 1932 (997 me, 980 him). I know we have a whopping 20 points to spare, but he wrote the list, and neither of us know what to do with the spare points. Unfortunately you cannot "give" unused points to a teammate, having some more combi-weapons to throw around would be quite nice.

I know this is hardly the best doubles option out there, we're mostly doing it out of whimsy, but all the same, I'd like some advice on how we can make it more solid. A clear weakness is our drought of scoring units, so we'll hurt badly in Objectives, but we could probably handle C&C quite nicely. The only things I would not be willing to change about this list are the weapons on Squad 1, because its a thematic thing, and the type of Land Raider(because it's a preheresy model and I cannot afford to buy any variants AND the terminators right now).

Advice, questions, comments, criticism, gentle admonishments and slaps across the head with a newspaper more than welcome!

I don't see why one terminator unit has all storm shields - with the wound allocation rules you should only need 2-3, especially since you can allocate some wounds to Logan, who has eternal warrior and an inv save. Equally, I don't see why the drop pod unit doesn't have maximum combi weapons.

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts

It was intended more to be a fluffy WYSIWYG thing. I'm converting Perturabo to Count-As Logan, so I envisioned the squad as being his honor guard. Although in Game Terms that may not necessarily be the best strategy. I probably could swap the FW Storm Shields for something to give the unit some long range oof...or nothing at all and give those points to the DP squad.

I'll use the full SS squad in larger point games or non doubles games, but aside from that, does this list have any huge flaws?

Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Terminators in a Space Wolves list make me weep tears of bitter anguish. Space Wolves pay 63 points a model for those, where normal Space Marines get the exact same models with the exact same wargear, stats and rules (Except Space Wolves get Counter-Assault and Accute Senses as opposed to Combat Tactics and Combat Squads) for 40 points per models. Thats 23 points less! More than a 50% discount! It's OK to take one Storm Shield per pack of Wolf Guard, but never take Thunder hammers unless you are fielding Arjac Rockfist, and he should be the only one.

Aside from that your second pack is improperly costed. It's 230 points, not 225.

I would adjust your list as follows:

Logan Grimnar - 275
5 Wolf Guard Terminators (2x Combi-Melta, 1x Storm Shield, 1x Cyclone Launcher, Drop pod) - 255
5 Wolf Guard Terminators (2x Wolf Claw, 3x Combi-Melta, 1x Cyclone Launcher) - 220
Dedicated Land Raider Crusader - 250

Master of the Forge - 100
Ironclad Dreadnought (Heavy Flamer, Drop pod) - 180
Ironclad Dreadnought (Heavy Flamer, Drop pod) - 180
Dreadnought (2x TL Autocannons) - 125
Dreadnought (2x TL Autocannons) - 125
Dreadnought (TL Lascannon, Missile Launcher) - 145
Dreadnought (TL Lascannon, Missile Launcher) - 145

Total 2,000 points exactly

The Master of the Forge rides with Logan and his pack of Wolf Guard. Since you share a force org chart you are essentially building one force from two codices rather than building two separate forces, so the Master of the Forge should be able to start attached to any unit you have. The two Ironclads pod in on the first turn and your podding pack of Wolf Guard drop on an objective later in the game. All the rest of the Dreads advance with the Land Raider and wreck face.

@Aldarionn:
Well as I implied in the title, we wanted to approximate the Kanwall strategy with Space Marines. How well this would work...thats another story.

The thing is, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I agree that TH/SS WGTs are overpriced. I agree that I need more combimeltas and shooty capacity in this army. Everything you say is 110% right. I don't know wolfguard as well as I knew Deathwing(Which is to say...a mild understanding at best).

But at the same time, I love modelling storm shields. And although that 4 man squad I listed is a hemorrage of points, its something I really want to model for my force. I plan on putting a ton of work into this army, and I want it to look special. Every other unit can have whatever is most effective. Is there any way we could rejigger the list to preserve that unit? Or should I just build it, paint it, and set it aside except for special occasions?

(Also, I know the Crusader is most definitely the better option for assaulty terminators, but I bought the Preheresy kit and doors and by golly I'm gonna use them )

Chainfist is a horrible upgrade on the IC. Strike at I1 and loose AP1...no thanks

I'm right with you on the TH/SS Terminators as far as looks go. I think they are GORGEOUS. The simple truth is they are vastly more expensive than necessary which I think is BS. As a result, I am purchasing a unit of Terminators from TheWarStore.com and ordering a few extra sets of shoulder pads, and I'm going to magnetize all of the weapon options for each model. Each model in the squad will have the option to have a Thunder Hammer, Wolf Claw, Frost Blade or Power Weapon in their right hand, and a Storm Shield, Wolf Claw, Storm Bolter or Combi-Melta in their left hand. Additionally one model will have the option of taking an Assault Cannon, heavy Flamer or Cyclone Launcher. Yes I know that means I'll be ordering like 4 extra sets of shoulder pads and a Cyclone launcher from The War Store and the kit will be a nightmare to assemble, but I want to have all options available to me.

I also plan to occasionally use the TH/SS setup on my Wolf Guard Terminators, but I do NOT intend to use them as Wolf Guard in that configuration. I'm designing a vanilla Space Marine list that will use my Space Wolf models for representation, including a "Counts As Vulkan" model I plan on building from scratch and heavily converting. When using TH/SS Terminators I'll simply be playing a vanilla marine list (Attaching one of my Long Fangs with Multi-Meltas to each unit of Grey Hunters to represent vanilla Tactical Squads). The list should be solid, and I'll probably the the only Vanilla Marine player with an army built and painted to look like Space Wolves. Of course I'll still be using my Wolves as intended with the Space Wolf Codex for the mostpart, but I do want to run vanilla Marines from time to time without buying a whole new army.

Anyway, sorry for the long, pointless post but I wanted to let you know that running Vanilla Marines using your Space Wolves so you can effectively use your TH/SS Terminators is not a sin!

Concerning the THSS quandary, I suppose you could have your friend field them as normal THSS terms for 200pts but you could use your figures for this tournament?

@Aldarion: I agree wholeheartedly. I wish they were cheaper! I was planning on including one with CML in some Long Fangs for fire support in actual lists. Well what direction do you suggest I go in?

@Jabbdo: I'd like to, and in a perfect world I would. But we need 2 troops and scoring units. Also he filled all our elite slots -.-
