Title says it all, not sure if Deathworld is the correct term, but a planet similar to Catachan, however much less intense. It would pretty much be a medium sized hive city surrounded by jungles and twisting rivers, that is small. It would mainly be used asy a trading point between planets.

I need a good setting for my army, and I would love to incorporate some Catachan looking people representing the army in the jungle joining the Hive Protection.

That sounds perfectly sensible, although I don't know how the planet would be classified by the Imperium (probably still as a death world, since a hive world has a hell of a lot people on it, not just one medium sized spire. And on a similar note, most hive worlds are essentially death worlds once you leave the cities).

the death World of Krieg is a notable example of a, ... well Death world, that also has several Hives located on it's surface.

Of course it used to be classed as a hive World until the 500 years of nuclear bombing.

Catachan is covered in "vast Fortresses" which may or may not be at least similar to Hive Cities(but then Catachan itsaelf is also anathema to buildings of any size as it's plant life destroys most buildings unless the plants are constantly cleared away).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Isn't Armageddon a Deathworld? I know very few people live outside the Hive Cities because of how dangerous th environment is.

"Deathworld", iirc, refers to a planet of living flora and fauna that is inimical to human life, rather than simply a planet that is hazardous due to chemical, radioactive or other similar factors. A Deathworld is a planet that seems to actively oppose the presence of humans (and other xenos, generally), and may even seem to do so in a co-ordinated and intelligent way.

Thus, Catachan may be considered a Deathworld, whereas Krieg and Aramageddon may just not be very pleasant places to live. Of course, just because one GW bit of fluff says that, not every other bit does.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

That is correct. The idea is pinched from the "Deathworld" novel written by Harry Harrison.

It seems unlikely that a hive city could be built in such an environment.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

According to the 40k Wiki:

Death Worlds are worlds classified by the Administratum of the Imperium to designate a planet with a climate, terrain, or ecosystem that is highly dangerous to human life, to the point of being nearly unlivable. Nonetheless, many of these worlds have large human settlements, notable for the strength and self-reliance of their people. On many Death Worlds the human population is divided into tribes. Due to the harsh conditions living to the age of 35 is nearly impossible.

Ok, I'm thinking of not making it a death world but just surrounded by a jungle then. If the average age is 35 and a lot of the people are tribes.

That would work fine. They could keep the jungle back from the walls by periodic burning, like in aeon flux.

Armageddon is what your looking for OP. It's a hive world but its equatorial belt was like a death world, but less intense.

Yeah, I dug out my Rogue Trader the other day, and the description of a Death World was pretty much exactly what I said. Being an old-timer, I regard Rogue Trader as the holy grail of fluff in all matters, including the complete lack of any mention of Chaos, Necrons or Tau.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Yes something like this. The planet could be largely inimicial to human life except for regions where Hive Cities have either thrived naturally (perhaps on the plains) or have been forced into being (like the Slash and Burn described). You'd find quite a mix then.

For further References to Hive Cities surrounded by wilderness I recomend looking up some info on Palladium Games systems Rifts setting; specifically the Coalition States and Chj-town

Yes, that is like what my planet is, there is only one platoon that can fight in the jungle well (Fluff wise), it isn't where no life is in the jungle, but where small tribes pop up, and die off.
