Subject: The 172nd Imperial Guard ***UPDATE 03 Jan 2013***
|
 |
Storm Trooper with Maglight
|
I have been building my IG army for about a year, but have never gotten around to painting it. Being stationed in Korea away from my wife and kids has given me the opportunity to do so. I have also been working on adding some different flavor into my army. Still trying to decide on a paint scheme, but the fluff for my army is about 3/4 of the planet is desert, with the last part being mostly high planes and light forests. I am going to have mostly Cadian, with a few Tallarn squads mixed in for fluff. I still need to wait to get new paints, but I'll start by showing off my models.
Please excuse the camera phone pictures. I left the good camera with my family back home.
My CCS. I picked up the Commissar on ebay and felt she looked more like a officer then a Commissar.
My Plasma Vets. A mix of FW, Females from Doc Thunders old gaming club, and a few odd bits
PCS with OOP Commissar. Equiped with Platoon standard, 2 flamers and heavy flamer
These are the Squad Sergeants for my Infantry Platoon.
My Females. I like the fluff of a coed military, and was lucky to get in contact with the group and place an order.
I have always prefered the old stormtroopers to the Kasirkins, and they also see action with my Elysian Drop Troops.
My Chimeras, with some extra details and FW track guards.
My Leman Russ with magnetized hull weapon and sponsons.
My Demolisher showing how I magnetized it to serve as any variant.
My FW Mars pattern Russ hull and Vanquisher turret.
My Female Knight Commander Pask.

I have paint finally. Now I only need to decide on a scheme. Been wanting to do a desert/high plains scheme. Anyone have ideas?

You've got some nice stuff in here.
Seen as you are based in Asia why not a sort of Mongolian theme (ok thats pretty far from korea) they have that high plane/deserty feel...

Is I have not been able to decide on a paint scheme for my guard, I've been working on my BA army. I have most of the army partially painted, but I never really did any detailing. I shelved them for a bit when 5th ed codex came out as all the local bandwagoners jumped on, but have decided to do some work on them until I can figure out my IG. So here are some pi
Some of my Cadian Rough Riders
More Cadian Rough Riders
My Death Company. I need to get some more power weapons for them as they are still built for 4th ed when they couldn't have any.
My Terminators from AoBR with a cyclone upgrade.
My next project is already underway. An Emperors Children themed Chaos army.

well you got the easy part taken care of; assembly. Now comes the fun stuff. I would watch how many power weapons you give your DC, you dont want them to end up being a 400 pt unit!

@Calibanite Lion: It's the female Commissar that was a gamesday/limited release. I was able to pick her up on Ebay.
@Elements206: I try and keep them from getting too expensive. I don't plan on running them with jump packs. Those are just still on them from my 4th edition list.

I wish I had some new pics to post, but I have not gotten a paint scheme that I like. I have painted and stripped my test model about 100 times. Can't find one that I like. Thinking I may just go normal Cadian, or Cadian with dark brown replacing the green. Not that it's anything new or special, but nothing is coming to me.

Finally decided on a paint scheme and got some painting done. These are all still WIP, but I like how they are coming out so far.
Company Command Squad. The banner bearer I am using as a body guard. I like the look of having one.
Platoon Command Squad. The Commissar in the back still needs attention, but all in good time.
1st Squad. Still undecided on the color of the lasguns. Not sold on the black yet. Each squad is going to be a mix of the male/female models.
The painted models of my 2nd squad. The rest still need to be primed before I get to them.
My stormtrooper squad. I still prefer these old style to the Kasirkins that most people seem to always use.
Not much really, and they are till all WIP, but it feels good to have part of them painted. Would love to know what people think so far.

Have gotten some more done with my guard. Have most of the infantry painted. Got a new player who is teaching me how to paint skin as I can't. Was very happy to get the rest of the horses for my rough riders in.
My Cadian Rough Rider squad. The parts are from the same as the female Cadian guy. It's a coed squad just like the rest of my army. Still have a long way to go with them.
My Tallarn rough rider squad. The guy with the sword counts as Mogul Kimar.
First of what will be 2 Tallarn Infantry squads. The unprimed model is the female catachan grenade launcher.
FW Vanquisher with FW Mars pattern hull. Female Knight Commander Pask
Demolisher. Full magnetized. The bin above the sponson is for fuel cans I have not painted yet.
Standard Leman Russ with FW turret. Also fully magnetized
The Chimera mod you see everywhere.

Have you thought about breaking up that grey with some camo patterns? Don't get too crazy, now, but I think some secondary and tertiary colors would go a long way. Just a thought.

Have been relatively productive recently and have gotten some painting done as well as a couple of games in. Trying to get as much in now before the training schedule picks up. I've decided my personal challenge to myself is to have everything painted before I deploy again next year. We'll see if that happens as tax time is going to be a nice big FW order . I'm slowly getting better at painting, but I can still only do low lever table-top quality.
My CCS is mostly done. Rather pleased with how the Commander is coming along. Plan on converting a Chimera into a M577
My Veterans with Sgt Bastonne. They are going to get a new chimera as well, but with the chatperhouse wheels.
PCS with 2 flamers, HF, OOP Commissar. Still trying to decide what color to make the PF.
My Platoon. 5 squads with GL and AC and a Mortar HWS. 2 of the squads are Tallarn squads.
My Rough Riders. I Love these guys(gals). A bunch of the cadian models are the females. People don't know what to think when I bring them out. They have never done super, but usually manage to kill something.
Stormtroopers with their unbuilt ride in the box, a FW valkyrie. The resin one, not the GW plastic.

Mostly I think it's the Wall O Pics. Your painting looks pretty good (if Basic) It may be the Pics but there seems to be zero shading or highlighting of anything. SO all in all not a bad Base to add onto (collection AND painting wise)

No sir! I hope you dont feel hurt! Theres a ton of stuff here, ive found that when you start putting more WIP and slowly people get invested in your projects, youll get more Hits Also, the ration in which people comment vs view is like 1 to 1000. lol. Theres alot of cool stuff in this thread, love the boxy sentinels..they look 80's. I dig it alot. Good scheme too! Keep at it, ive had bummer moments here too, but its all part of making new dakka friends! Consider me one! Looking forward to your next updates

Have been able to get some new modeling done, but had a set back in painting. Had a prime come out powdery and falling off, so had to be stripped and redone. But as almost everything was metal, it was an easy to strip as I was able to use the strongest stuff. The Veterans new ride. Chapterhouse conversion kit. Was pretty easy to put togeather, but had to do a little carving as I was using old chimera kit. SWS Sniper squad. I know people seem to turn their nose up to snipers, but I enjoy them and I am really pleased with how they look. Valkyrie for my Elysian Army. This is the ride for my Stormtroopers. Note the FW fuel tanks. Going to mount the missiles next to the landing gear. Part of my Blood Angels army. OOP metal BA models with OOP metal jump packs. Even the should pads are the metal ones. OOP BA Sargent. I put in with my Devestators as that was the only squad where the Sgt has a chain sword.

Its been over a year since I actually got around to posting any pictures of my IG. Got side tracked by getting into my SoB and all the real life stuff that comes with being a husband, father of 3, and being active duty Army. But I've gotten back into my IG mainly because it's just a pain in the butt to paint SoB that I wanted to switch gears. I want to start posting more pics, but I don't have a good camera, so I'm stuck with my iPhone. 1st up it my Chimera for my CCS. Been wanting to do this converstion since I started 40K Next is my Harker Vet squad. It's Last Chancer and Tanith models (plus 1 female sniper) Automatically Appended Next Post: Got some more (hopefully) better pictures taken after dinner. My CCS. For those of you not following above or have fogotten that is the old OOP games day female Commissar for my Commander. My CCS has gold strips to mark them. Eventually my whole army will have shoulder strips. Sgt Bastonne's melta vet squad Sgt Bastonne's ride. My Colossus. The local SM players have learned to hate this thing. Still need to paint him obviously. My Rough riders. 1st of 2 squads I run. The internet always seems to scoff at these guys, but I love them. They (almost) always preform well for me. Let me know what you all think. My painting skills are to a low table-top quality. Automatically Appended Next Post: Almost forgot to post my custom Hellhound. It's Chimera tracks, LR hull, redeemer flamestorm cannons, and a razorback turret. Quite a hodge podge of parts, but I really like the outcome.
