My 2k Marine list will be mobile, with everything mounted in a vehicle if it isn't already one. I have 3 Tac squads; should their leaders have bolt pistols or should I spend the extra few points and upgrade to plasma?

It really depends on the rest of the army list and how much AP 1 and 2 weapons you have. If the list is high in melta, plasma or lascannons already then I'd say go with the bolt pistol and use the points elsewhere.

If your planning on fireing out of the transport, remember that you have a limited number of firepoints to share amongst the squad.

as long as your sgts all have a power fist the plasma option is one for the end of the army if you have a few spare points but as above p pistols are expencive and there are better and prob cheaper ways of getting AP2 or better in the force

PP are almost always too expensive to be considered for what is basically a 1 shot weapon. If you are taking a Power Fist, why not take a Combi-weapon instead? Cheaper and there isn't a loss of attacks due to not having a pistol.

The Plasma Pistol, while tons of fun, isn't really economical. It gives you an off-chance of popping a 'fex or a light tank before assaulting, but the chance is so small, it generally isn't worth it.

I do like them on Berserkers because they're 1) fluffy and 2) they have zero other options for a ranged weapon besides BPs.

Do NOT take Plasma Pistols for anybody. They are NOT worth the points. Take plasma guns on your special weapon trooper instead. I have five veteran sergeants all with plasma pistols and power swords- left over from last edition and I will not use them with PP's at all.

Don't take plasma pistols. Even if you have some extra points floating around there is almost always a better use for them.

Berserkers are a possible exception since there are some targets they have a tough time with if they don't soften them up with shooting 1st. Even here though it's not because plasma pistols are great. It's because they have no other choices.

I won't for a SGT, my reclusiarch I think will carry one, the BS 5 is something that is influencing the decision.
