Are the Daemonhunters fun to play? I'm trying to figure out what to do for my next army, I've done Chaos, all kinds of Space Marine chapters, and Traiter Guard - its time to move on to another project.

Pros/cons? (playing, modeling, collecting)

Thanks!

(*Edit - was Witch Hunters, but they seem a little outdated after checking the models out..)

Daemonhunters are one of the three worst armies in the game (DH, Tau, Necrons). That said, they are pretty fun to play, and the models are great. GW still has yet to top the Grey Knight Terminators.

Daemonhunter pros:
-Arguably the best terminators in the game
-Psycannons
-Mass stormbolters
-Grey Knight Grand Master has the most broken instant kill in the game
-Look fething AMAZING
-Best psychic hood in the game
-Almost entirely fearless
-S6 in spades

Daemonhunter cons:
-All metal. Have fun converting anything
-Overpriced units and wargear, will always be outnumbered
-Very little in the way of anti-tank
-Very small unit selection
-Limited transport options mean the army is generally slow
-Almost entirely fearless
-Did I mention overpriced?

If you enjoy winning, stay away. Otherwise, great fun to be had. Lots of character.

Great fun.

Last weekend I played Daemonhunters - the main force being 6 squads of Storm Troopers, all mounted in Valks. Had a blast. Even beat my opponent (Eldar). As people have said though, Daemonhunters are a bad army from a competitive point of view. They are not balanced (as in balanced against themselves, so their choices are poor) and while they have a lot of variety and flavour, they lack any real sort of power.

However, all of this is moot. A few months from now the Daemonhunters Codex will cease to be, replaced by the Grey Knight Codex. At that point anyone out there who doesn't use Grey Knights (such as myself and a number of others here at Dakka) won't just have underpowered armies, we'll also have illegal armies. So as fun as they are, I would recommend against getting a Daemonhunter army simply because by this time next year there won't be such thing as a Daemonhunter army. Grey Knights, sure, but not DH.

Gonna have to agree with HMBC on this one. Although, I won't end up taking it nearly as badly, what with the majority of my DH being Grey Knights, it's still a shame the Inquisitional bits are probably going to be phased out. I love my Inquisitors, and the assassins are just great fun.

Used my Eversor for the first time in a while on the weekend as well - he ripped through squads of Human Aux and Fire Warriors - and then even saw off half a Kroot Squad by himself before the game ended.

With daemon hunters i use dto love playing them.
Its one of thier main qualities (looks, play style)
Other than that, there are a few downsides to taking them.

1: All metal - not a problem for some, but there are some that dont like it.

2: Price - as above, they are all metal, so price isnt too good.

3: FW - Allways worth the FW tank upgrades, these however start to get expensive really quick.

Other than that though i couldnt saying anything else thats "bad" about them really.
Very unique army as they stand due to a few factors.

Also, you will find a severe lack of anti-tank in the army.
las-dreads and godhammers compete for HS, so you will allways be low.
However, this doesent stop players. (used to run pure GK)

Actually ISTs and Inquisitors will still be in the codex

you do have to get an inquisitor to run them however.

bot nobody will play them because GKTs will be Troops.

Yes, a 'Generic Inquisitor' with his 'Generic Henchmen' and no access to any fancy Daemonhunting or Witch Hunting or even Alien Hunting Wargear. Instead, what will he get? Well look at any GW Codex since Dark Angels, and you'll see that he'll get no Wargear options to speak of - he'll get to chose between a Thunder Hammer or Force Weapon, and if we're lucky he'll get to pick either Terminator Armour and/or Digital Weapons, but that's it.

And then the Storm Troopers will be the craptastic Cruddance versions - weaker than Marines and less capable than Marines - but because GW designs Codices (and sometimes units within Codices) within a vacuum they will only see the AP3 and don't understand how their own fething game works they'll still be costed far above Marines.

They can't phase out Inquisitors, toting a pelthora of holy wargear. That would be blasphamey!
My Inquisitor can't go into battle with just a force weapon and terminator armour.

sure they're fun. if by fun you mean ungodly aggravating because winning with such a ridiculously underpowered army is next to impossible in an even marginally competitive environment. in that caese, yes, they're a bucket of fun. a regular carnival. seriously though. dont do it.

Thats a real shame, I love kitting out my leaders. GW will have to make realy good speacial rules for them. Qtherwise they will be useless.

If you love the terminators and and the look there is no harm in using them under space wolves rules and running them as loganwing. In addition to being able to field terminators as troops they also have awesome psychic powers and psychic defense and most of the same vehicle options. Something to think about.

I loved painting the DH models but never really liked playing them.

I play the Inquisitorial side of DH and WH. I am not going to be happy with next 'dex for either. Luckily my local lot say that they don't mind me shoving an Inquisitor into an apoc or frindly game seeing how much of them I have.

Fun to play. Expensive and hard to convert and hard to win.

Nobody likes PLAYING DH. They just happen to be a modeller's dream.

I disagree. Chaos terminators are much more versatile, IMO. GKs are good though.

Pros:
-EASY paint job. You can probably do a unit of 10 PAGKs in less than an hour.
-Usually fun. NFWs are really cool.
- Still space marines. Your tactics will be fine.
- You can use your existing rhinos

Cons:
-BORING paint job.
-Boring on the table
-Boring to model
-Boring HQ choices
-Booooring
