While rummaging through storage this weekend i turned up this little gem. I had bought it at a thrift shop years and years ago for the low price of $2.50. At the time i hadnt been able to make it work on my pc, so into the storage it had gone, a nice little relic of days gone by. But now that its made its way back into my hands, i have an incredible urge to play it. I tried running it on my pc now, but got a message saying that the software was not supported - no surprise there. Does anyone know of some way that i could run it on a modern pc?

DosBox, in a word. Go here:

I would recommend grabbing a frontend app for it as well.

Space Hulk is available on Abandonware sites so it's easy enough to find a copy now, and it works fine with DOSBOX. I have an original copy, but downloaded my urrent one from an Abandonware site because my computer doesn't have a floopy drive, yup the game is that old. It came on four 3.5" floppy disks and cost a whopping £44.99 when released but had high ratings from magazines at the time. What bugged me was that the flamer was useless, it only even shoots a 3x3 area in front, which means that in a corridor you only have a 3 square range, unlike the boardgame where you can clean out a corridor with it. As a result it's hopeless and has to have other marines hold his hand and take him everywhere because he's virtually defenceless.

I had Space Hulk for my 3DO dunno if it was the same as the Dos game, but it was hella hard to play. But I used to love the voices..

Well, after bumbling about in the game for about half-an-hoiur, i gotta say im resonably impressed. Even considering its age (circa 1994), the gameplay was smooth and pretty faced-paced. I think i managed to conquer the learning curve in my brief experience, and im actually kinda looking forward to a longer play session. Three cheers to an old ass game that still plays well.

I did 'Suicide Mission' a few weeks ago for the first time. It's much more difficult on the computer as it's a small level and the 'stealers move fast. It's a pretty straight forward job for the marines in the boardgame. Other missions which seem awkward on the boardgame are a breeze on the computer.
The Deathwing campaign is tricky though I didn't get far in that. I got to about the 5th or 6th level and couldn't work out what to do, the instructions weren't clear and I just wandered about exploring. But it was a long time ago now.

Download Alien Assault from Teardown if you like this. I can't check the link here at work, but follow this link to download it.
It's very good and very hard (like proper computer games should be).
