Build a platform over the water, build the dome on top of that in sand or gravel, then destroy the platform. Cover it with glass, then tunnel under and dig out the sand/gravel.

Above the surface, so as not to destroy the water blocks and necessitate obnoxious repairs. It simplifies the process considerably, since it's easier to make a dome outside of water than in it, and easier to cover something with glass underwater than try to build a freestanding structure of it and drain it later.

It would be something like:

.Sand dome.
Dirt platform
~~Water~~
~~Water~~
~~Water~~

Remove the dirt when it's done, and you get:

~~Water~~
~~Water~~
.Sand dome.

Then, it's a simple mater to cover it with glass:

~~Water~~
/Glass dome\
.Sand dome.

Then just remove the sand, and you're done.

~~Water~~
/Glass dome\
-------Air-------

I've kind of changed plan.
it's gonna be a giant house with a flat glass roof underground, with a dome rising above gound.

Are Aether Islands defintely coming in 1.6?

Confirmed to be in the game eventually, hopefully will be in 1.6 with maps, smp nether and long grass.

but if we have more than one portal, we'll end up emerging hundreds of blocks away- how will we fix that?
is there a way to have more than one, or will we have to have one in the sanc and that's it?

I doubt i'll play much Minecraft into the islands are released. Been really bored since my singleplayer got deleted, my new one is just not as good and i'm way to lazy to rebuild my entire house and gather all my lost resources.

download single player commands and then summon your stuff.

I had singleplayer commands, it's fun to spawn thousands of cows and wolves.

hey shrike, I often stop at the stronghold when I travel between wolf's house and brandywine hall, can I improve it?

Like replace the dirt building with a proper, small fort? Using a different material?

half of my gold ore went missing, but everything else in all my chests was fine. How strange...

Minecraft is just a launcher: if the rest of the files aren't present, they're downloaded when you login through it, though one doesn't need to login to play, only to update/download it to begin with.

I didn't build the stronghold, and I've not been.
I think halo built it (not sure)

There could be a huge rail network running from the Aether portal to peoples various islands.

That'd look brilliant.

I'd even help make it if my lost blocks of iron get replaced.

I inform everyone that I have claimed a piece of land of my own to build my new house which will become my primary residence.

It is in a prime location, facing the sea, on an escarpment of land right next to the road between wolf's house and Brandywine Hall.

I have covered the area I claim as my own with torches and signs saying "property of frenchyvinnie". I left a few guard dogs on my terrain, and anyone I find mining or building there will get a sword in the face.

Construction will begin soon, you are all welcome to come and visit my house once it is finished.
