Hey everyone, I've decided to start a blog about my new guard army that I've been working on for a few weeks.

I've been playing 40k since early 4ed and have primarily played guard the entire time. I used to have a large force of Cadian models but as time went on I never was able to get them all painted and looking decent. I decided to sell off all the models and start over fresh.

So here are a few nearly finished models. All that needs to be done now are the bases. C&C welcome too!



My color scheme is inspired by WW2 Germans with M40 Greatcoats.

And heres a quick shot of my wip commander



I have a good amount of models to still build and paint but I still am looking for more so if you have any shoot me a PM.
I will try to update everyday on my progress so stay tuned!

like it, i dig the natural looking paintjob, never started steel legion because of money, or lack thereof.
i like your colours WAYYYY better than GWs

The finished models are just great, the color scheme is so realistic, and the plasma pistol up front is really well done, some people can't paint the "plasma" part to save their life. Will be looking forward to your updates and models to come.

The minis look great but the bases not so much.
You should either wash the sand a couple of times with devlan mud or paint it.

looking good, is the base not painted? looks good if it isnt , maybe a wash would add depth too it a bit more though.Your commisar looks very good is it an old model?

DAY 2!

Hello again, I'm back with some more wip models. Spent a long day yesterday working on some conversions (which turned out to be more work than I expected haha) but in the end I think they came out very nicely .

Also a quick note the bases on the models up above are not finished, they will be painted later

So here are the first light conversions of 3 teams of rocket launchers


And the second set of conversions 3 flamers


Next up mortar conversions! I have some cool ideas for them so stay tuned!

DAY 3!

Got the mortar teams done along with a quick conversion for one of the platoon commanders. I also finished basing all the other steel legion troops I have currently.

Heres the quick platoon commander conversion (just swapped the sword for the chainsword not too crazy)

@LeBaron: The models are the old Imperial Guard Steel Legion models. The plan is to only use these for the army. I hope that answered your question.

are you going to convert a ton of them, like standard bearers, medics, etc?

DAY 4!

Ok got alot of painting done today and a converted heavy bolter team that is crouching instead of prone. I also painted up a priest that I had laying around which turned out to be a fun model to paint due to alot of small details on the model.

First up is the first squad that has been finished! YAY!


Second up is the priest that was a bunch of fun to paint. (Also converted his bandanna up higher to try and fit the gas mask theme... just not sure how effective that is haha)



And lastly the converted HB team.


My camera has been acting up lately and the colors aren't really picking up :(

The poor HB gunner looks like he cant see anything! I guess thats what the other guy is for. Looks cool regardless

Great stuff. Always a fan of the Steel Legion but couldn't afford the figs. I plan to do a Steel Legion spin-off soon with Wargame Factory shock troopers and Cadian arms. I expect a few things in this thread will inspire me!

DAY 5!

Didn't get too much done today but was able to finish up my platoon commander and retook a the photo of the priest. Also I converted 1 of the melta guns for the vet squads.

Not sure how much I will get done tomorrow with the release of Fallout New Vegas :s (patiently waiting/keeping busy until midnight can take a long time haha)

Nice army! I really like your colors. It is nice to see a steel legion army, haven't seen one in a long time. Conversions look nice, I like the way you use the lasgun frame and just add the parts you need. Keep up the good work!
