Title says all but the reason I am posting this thread is to find out why so many Wow players hate on it, i really dont understand it at all.

Both games are similar, so yea spout out what you think makes Runescape a "crap game".

Ill agree to that statement lol.

But if taken as what they are IE Games, then the life draining aspect shouldnt come into play. Ill admit i spend alot of time on Runescape due to the fact there is nothing else i want to do for various reasons.

I don't see the appeal in either game. Oh sweet! Grind fest to get an item drop to help me grind better. Rinse and repeat, with dumb quests thrown in.

Both games are grind fests thats a given lol.

Heres my view on the quests in both games

Runescape- Quests are interesting storylines (while some of them being menial tasks) through the use of puzzles, cutscenes and whatnot. Is not required to level. They are a "bonus" imo. Stories are mostly easy to follow, Although due to massive gaps between storyline quests they can be forgotten :/

Warcraft - Heavily dependant for leveling, yes its possible to level without them but will take ages. Most of the quests arnt that interactive, they occasionally have cutscenes. Story in questlines are hard to follow.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

Because Runescape sucks. It's a very simple equation. And it's not just WoW players who hate it; generally, most people over the age of 13 feel the same way regardless of thier other game preferences.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I suppose much of the earlier content in WoW is glazed over and it's seen as a fair bit of a grind simply because all of the current supported content is only accessible at the level cap.

I'm not really a fan but the upcoming expansion seems like a great idea because it addresses this issue. The level cap is being raised, but more importantly the entire world is being rebuilt with new low-level progression, new races and new class combinations.

Runescape is a simpler game from a simpler time. It's also free. WoW fans probably appreciate the graphics and constant updates. If they automatically disregard it as 'bad' then they're not really being fair and their opinion is mostly irrelevant.

Now i expected that from the get go, but was hopin the dakka community would be better and put why runescape sucks, not just "it sucks"...

Runescape is a simple game ill give it that but the graphics have been updated quite recently and to a very nice standard imo.

Haha, thats some bull right there, during the time in played wow there were very little updates nothing notably good, mostly patches and stuff like that. Runescape has updates allmost every week, even if some of them are a bit stupid.

I don't care for it now that I have tasted bigger and better things but it is a very good MMO for the price.

For many people it is/was their first MMO, I think that says a lot as to its acessability and ease of play.

Did I mention that my eighty year old grandmother plays runescape?

All she does is mine, smelt, and make things. She's a mutimillionare on several diffrent accounts.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

If you're a WoW-hater yourself that's fair enough, but you could have made that a bit clearer instead of just jumping me. I hear that hating is the cool new thing so I suppose it's okay. I've recently seen the new WoW patch from last week that has updated graphics and a completely reconfigured talent tree system. I wasn't aware that Runescape has recently had a graphical rehash too. That's great for both audiences.

I'm not really advocating one or the other so I suppose I'll pack up my objectivity and leave.

Oh i dont hate either game, i would and have happily played both of them over the 1st half of this year, both games are good in their own right. If i came across as a hater then i didnt mean to.

Ill admit the new expan and recent updates "should" be good.

Do note that i havnt played Wow in a few months due to money issues, so i may have missed some radical changes.

Its an MMO I suppose. Gross generalizations for them are either subpar, wow clones, or something from korea

I mean Runescap is FREE, why do people complain about free stuff that they are not forced to play? Sure it is aimed at "My First MMO" crowds but I dont particularly see a problem with that.

WoW's system, IMHO, is generally much better than RS. With Talent Tree speccing, Mounts, a not dumb PvP system and an actually useful and fun dungeon system RS just gets left behind. Plus, WoW has much better graphics and more "serious" lore, as compared to RS, which is aimed at younger gamers.

RS isn't bad, but if we're being completely serious, WoW is better.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

RS sucks because Ragnarok Online was my first MMO (which by the way ate 5 years of my life and I am still somewhat perplexed what actually happened)

But anyone, I've tried a few times, because a friend of mine played it, and it just felt very much like a rickety browser game to me, and nothing more.

I can understand prefer the more customizable classes, tbh i prefer it too. Mounts are also a fair point as it helps you get round the world faster coz it is alot bigger, Runescapes transport system is generally very good if you know how to use it, normally another form of transport is with a 10-15 min range of another. The lore doesnt affect the game much imo, yes it can be interesting but generally i overlook the lore most of the time.

Fair play, iv played runescape for about 5 years and it was my 1st mmo, so i guess you could say im in sorta the same boat as you, however i wont lash out and say wow sucks because it doesnt. The free version of rs is kinda crap compared to the members version but sadly you (should) spend time on the free worlds just to get some basic stuff leveled.

Runescape is a very half-assed version of Ultima Online.

It shares many similarities, but none of the depth of content or the living, breathing player community which made UO so great. Runescape's antiquity in it's design is painfully obvious, and since it has none of the awesome content that makes it worth your while, it's not worth playing to the majority of people who are willing to pay for an MMO or search for a decent free one.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

I'm also in a pretty good community clan called 'Skill Firm'.

more "serious" lore

What are you talking about? Rs has a great background, aswell as a great community of fan fiction writers.

not dumb PvP system and an actually useful and fun dungeon system

There's now a pretty great skill based on dungeons. It's the first 'thinking skill' and it's great.

One of my favourite things about Rs is how the economy works. It's not driven by 'celebrity players' but by supple and demand. Merching on Rs is pretty awesome.

As i said im not much of a lore fan although i probly should be. but i do like some of the stories and such through the quests.

I wouldnt say its a "thinking skill" but more of a try and prepare for the unknown. To sum it up Dungeoneering is a Wow dungeon "cut" into blocks between start and finish, while every block between them is random, ie could be skill based, combat based or puzzle based.

Yea until merchanters start takin the and start making everything sky rocket in price.

No idea about the hidden files. The reason it takes so long to load, as with any game, is that it is loading up the newest patches and features. After its been loaded once iv shouldnt take 10 mins to load up again

its boring and repetive

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Having a fair bit of experience with WoW and not so much with Runescape (not for many years), I've spent the past hour playing Runescape again for a lark.

First I killed a goblin whilst some sort of knight was fighting a dragon in a very poorly animated fashion. I climbed over a low section of wall and placed some drugged meat in a conveniently placed bowl so that the dragon would eat it and fall asleep. Then I had to perform a tedious series of simple actions whilst Sir Knight flapped his jaw at me.

We burned down some pillars, and he told me to run (I don't know how to run so I walked), and then a fellow appeared in a bathrobe, swinging a cane, who had apparently just come out of the closet.

Sucking on a pipe, he explained that he was some sort of special git and even proved it by making a button appear on my interface. He encouraged me to click it whenever I wanted his advice or wanted to make money, which made me very suspicious, so I didn't.

...

He wouldn't have a bar of that and insisted that I click it. I did so hesitantly, and he suddenly proclaimed that I was in his cellar. Sir Knight demanded my clothing, and the old man said he would show me how to clear a passage. At this point I noticed the shackles attached to a nearby wall. I knew I had to escape.

...

The old fellow mentioned that we were directly beneath a town - anywhere was better than here. Why the hell was I here anyway? The old git was still prattling on and had pulled out a selection of tools - I took my a pick and ran to a nearby wall (ok, so I walked), stealing cabbages and loose books on the way... I tried to break through a section of wall, but the geezer called out,
"You're not skilled enough! Practice on those rocks first!"

...

Or something like that.

So far this is pretty crap, but that's because I'm trapped in a pervert's basement...

You must not have played WOW much. WOW actually has spectacular support and updates. You get numerous Holiday events all year round as well as a few major events. (undead invasions and such) Also Blizzard has done a very nice job with high level raid content being provided free of charge to keep things fresh in between expansions (ZG, ZF, Sunwell, Dragons.) As far as MMO's go the support is top notch.

Also Blizzard has an active testing community and the game is generally polished to a high shine. Months are taken in beta and open tests. The major patch process may take a day or so at times but the end result is usually incredible. I do not play WOW or Runescape anymore but may go back to WOW in December.

WOW is just more polished with more options and better content.

More options?

I can't think of there being more options on Rs. There's 20+ minigames, 150+ quests, Penguin Spotting, over 20+ skill and 8 combat skills.

Graphics? They are meant to be like they, if you want beautiful graphics go play FF.

I used to play RS when I was younger and I honestly loved the game, now Im just went off it cos I played it for so long and had a friend who was too competitive.

Personally it could have a bit more in it, and give back some features like being able to get someone stuff after you kill them.

Although if you want an immensely fun game with 'bad' graphics go play minecraft classic.
