Space Wolf Successor.

Yes, I know SW are done to death.
But I'm a die hard SW player, but I want to start fresh....

so I'm thinking of a Comapany of Space Wolves left behind on a desert planet, abandoned when their Strike Cruiser was destroyed by a Chaos fleet.

Thinking of starting with some FW MK III/IV armour, using SW rules, and with a deserty paint scheme.

That would be cool, but where's the fluff?

So far, its a SW company, lead by _________, left behind n a desert/deathworld type planet. Desert-type paint scheme, older marks of armour. Possibly older (FW) type weapons. May get some pre-heresy shoulder pads for gaks and giggles.

Further ideas?

I suppose they'd be influenced by whatever was on the planet. Check my sig for how my desert Marine army is going, and their fluff.

Ok, I've changed my mind.


Was looking around at various SM chapters and some of the models that are now available. One of the models that I REALLY like is the Ironclad Dread.

So I'm now leaning toward doing the Steel Confessors, witha force that is in close alliance with a Adeptus Mechanicus Search Fleet.

So Higher percentage of Bionics, prob a Master of the Forge HQ. HQ with master crafted weapons etc.

The force will be a SM Fleet based force, accompaning an Adeptus Mechanicus Fleet conducting a search for lost STC technology.

They are an Iron Hands sucessor, but will probably be codex based. Dreads and Vehicles will be well maintained. Higher than average # of Techmarines in the force.

Most SGTs will have bionics, and I'm going to try and have most models at least a bit converted.

Leaning toward a Master of the Forge with Conversion Beamer for one of my HQ choices.

SM are also done to death.

To be honest, you can have a lot of fun with both loyalist and chaos marines. Since you have a lot of imperial and good armies, try chaos.

General consensus is the Current Chaos 'Dex desperately needs a revamp.

I'll look @ Chaos when they get re-done. Preferably with plastic Termies.

With all the wonderful conversion parts availalbe on the market these days, I'm jonesing to get back into modelling, and if I go SM, I can strip some of my existing minis (Which I have LOTS of) to at lest get started.

Why do you even need fluff? Just paint your minis how you like and give them a name job done. Nobody you are going to play against is going to want to sit through 15 minutes of you explaining your fluff to them before the game starts, Its like me forcing someone to read dakka fan fiction before a game (not that I would be that cruel)

'Cause I like to have some fluff behind my armies. Its not like I'm going to give the fluff to everyone, but if someone asks "Why do so many of your Marines have Bionics?" I'll have an answer.

'Cmon people, we're playing toy soldiers... why not have some fun, and immerse yourself in the universe a little bit :-)

I can tell what not to color it; red. It would look too much like an Ultramarine successor chapter. Try leathery black.

K, I'm a fickle creature: Changed my mind a bit again.

Pirmary colors will be Dark Blue and Boltgun metal, any tabards etc will prob be bone/parchement color.

Anyhow, here's my bit of fluff that I've written:

Background Chapter: Ebon Gauntlets

Sucessor Chapter to the Iron Hands Space Marines, they follow the Codex Astartes, but have a significantly higher % of marines that have visible cybernetic Augmetics, as they have some of the same reverence for the Omnissah that their parent chapter does.

The Ebon Gauntlets are a fleet based chapter, who recruit on worlds that they campaign on, with particularly noteworthy members of the PDFs and sometimes particularly brave members of the Imperial Guard that they have fought with are offered the chance to test to undergo the process of becoming a Space Marine. They are Fleet Based, as their homeworld was destroyed by a Necron incursion, wiping out their Fortress Monestary, and causing heavy losses to the reserve companies of the Chapter, which they have still not recovered from.
As such, the Chapter has a virulent hatred for the Necrontyr, and will sometimes divert away from whatever their current primary mission is to destroy any Necrontyr forces they may encounter. Their hatred of the Necrontyr has resulted in a fairly cordial relationship with the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition, with many Veteran Marines serving with the DeathWatch, and almost all members of the chapter command structure, Librarians, Chaplains, and line Command Staff have served in the DeathWatch at one time or another, and many still wear the DeathWatch shoulder pad to honor that service. Many veterans still use the Ancient DeathWatch pattern bolters in their tireless fight against the Xenos threats to the Imperium.

The Chapter has ancient ties still with the Ordo Mechanicus, and the Chapter has a higher than average number of Techmarines. They also maintain an ancient SuperHeavy Fellblade tank that they TechMarines will, on dire need, remove it from Stasis, and field it from their primary Battle Barge.
