My cat was put to death today. Me and my sister were at home when he walked into the house crying. (ever seen a cat cry? Not nice)
He was'nt using his rear right leg, so we took him to the vet. They took some x-ray pictures which showed that his knee had been crushed into pieces,
probably by a car. So they gave him an injection. Does anyone else have similar stories they'd like to share?

Sorry to hear about your cat.

Yes it's very sad when you lose a pet. It's like losing a close family member.

about 2 years ago I had to put my dog to sleep. He was a 14 year old golden retriever. He had bad hips and couldn't climb up stairs for the last couple years of his life, but what the real issue was he had some kind of tumor in his belly and something busted open. I had him since he was a puppy and me and him drove across the country and back together. He marked our journey with a trail of poo from philly to los angeles and back again.

I had a 16 year old Maltese (Canine).
Extremely old really.

One day, it was choking as if she had a hair ball, wabbled forward a step or two and just fell over as if she couldn't stand.

Took her to the vet and they told me that her lungs were filling up with fluid and couldn't breathe well, among other issues associated with a dog living past the normal death expectancy.
The vet could suggest a procedure to fix it, but there was a low expectancy for her to recover due to her age.

I signed for her to go to sleep.
Sad, but one moves on. I keep pictures of her... reminds me to use her as my Avatar some day:
It'll be one where we took a picture of her after she stuck her head in a dropped cereal box with a string of chereos as her mustache as she looked up.

It's a good learning experience... it will happen and it's part of life.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

At least he had a pretty long life. Before, I thought people who cried when their pet died were simply stupid, but I understand now. It really is like losing a good friend.

Aye it can be hard, my mother made sure we had a fair few pets as we grew up, mostly cats, so I've seen plenty of pets go. Some had short lives some long.

The two that hit us hardest where two cats that both got over ten years.
One reached thirteen before he went, really upset my mother as well, as she had no doubt he'd saved her life when she had a asthma attack. She was trapped in her bed unable to breath, and he woke up, walked over from the far end of her bed and then jumped onto her chest which allowed her to catch her breath.
His litter sister reached seventeen, and that was also tough just because of the time frame she was in the house.

Both of them buried in the same spot in the Garden back down in our old house in Cornwall.

My wife and I have done the same now, got a pet dog last year, so our boys will have to accept death happens as they get older.

We had a kitten named 'Stone Cold Chuck Awesome' that died choking, or maybe drowning, in our kitchen. He had some kind of bladder problem, or a stone in his urinary tract and part of his guts burst. I tried to get him to the vet. Of course my PC decided it wanted to ask me about updating everything when I was trying to search for 'helping choking cat'. He was about 10 months old. I found him on the street months earlier and he was in rough shape. It was sad.

We also had an orange tabby named Frenchy that was a terror to all small sized birds. She was a small cat but fast. Anyway, she went outside one day and an Eagle or a Hawk got a hold of her. They found her about 8 miles from our house in someone else's backyard. Poor little fether.

Our current Cat, Macho Man, is endangered of getting too much sleep and relaxation.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat, OP.

I've lost a few pets, they have all been hard. They youngest one was 7, but my fondest memories were of my 10 year old Great Dane.

Died like any man would want to: Screwing in a literal harem of female dogs because we were paid to breed him. Can't think of a better way to go that rutting the rest of your life away.

Our English bulldog, Ever, started having seizures when he was a puppy, and we took him to the vet and they ran tests and determined that he had epilepsy. We were told that there was really not much we could do except just wait for the seizures to pass, and hope that they weren't too bad. Well one day he went into a really bad grand mal seizure and wasn't coming out. One of the hardest things I've ever done was having to hold him in my lap while he was having the seizure as we drove him to the animal hospital. They tried everything they could, but it was really bad and he couldn't make it.

We also had a bullmastiff, Cozy, who was the sweetest, most gentle, loving dog you'd ever meet. unfortunately, she was born with kidney disease and only lived to about 2 and a half years old, which was a year longer than the vets we took her to expected. In the end she started losing weight rapidly (she was about 90 pounds when she died, she was about 130 when she was healthiest, and even that was under weight) and her kidneys were deteriorated to the point where she couldn't hold her bladder for even 10 minutes. It was extremely sad. The kidney disease also caused other health issues, the worst where the cartilage between her bones started deteriorating, and in the end we had to put her to sleep because she couldn't walk; in one of her hip joints it was bone scraping on bone, causing her extreme pain.

Another bullmastiff we had, Beulah, had some kind of dog alzheimers and she forgot who we were, and almost attacked my mom. Before her mind went, she was the sweetest kindest dog ever, but as she started losing her memory she didn't recognize us or our house and was constantly nervous and scared, which is a very bad thing for a 130+ pound dog.

We've had two other bullmastiffs as well, one, fielder, who we rescued, had been abused and as a result was distrustful of strangers and EXTREMELY protective of our family, especially my younger brother. Bullmastiffs are natural a very protective breed, but he was extremely attached to our family and especially looked out for my little brother who was about 3 or 4 at the time. One day a girl from down the street came over and was helping my brother down the steps and because he was psychologically messed up from being abused and because of his uber protectiveness towards my little brother, fielder pinned the little girl up against our car by her throat. Thankfully she wasn't hurt, he didn't even break the skin, but our parents decided that he wasn't going to be safe to be around and so put him down. Our other bullmastiff, Becka, lived a happy, healthy life until we had moved and left her with friends who we knew would provide her with a good home and family.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

My cat, Abigail, died of a tumor an December 12, 2009. She was 14. She went from bad to worse in a matter of days. 9 months later, her daughter, Samantha, at age 12, passed away from malnutrition. She refused to eat, and she passed away. They were the best cats I have ever had, and I will always remember them. I have to stop now, I'm starting to cry...

I had a pet bird a couple years ago. I had him for about 5 years. But then he got sick and it was around the time of that bird flu scare. So without my permission he was taken by my parents and put down at the vet.

RIP jack.

We had to put down our eleven year old cat Lucy on Wednesday. The vet said she had a blood clot that had paralyzed her from the waist down. The whole thing was very sudden. We miss her already.

I've had a dog, zoe who lived to about 15 or so. She was a whippet, awesome dog. Very loyal, cuddly and was a couch potato. Also would greet you when you came home which was awesome.

Then she got a tumor, and couldn't get it removed so we euthanized her at the vets. Then scattered her ashes on the island in our family farm.

My hamster died 5 years ago. because my father didn't like the noises the wheel made. so he put it outside and it died in the cold. my dad felt guilty for killing our first real pet. it felt like a real human being had died for me. we decided the hamster will be the first and last pet we will ever have.

edit: i think like 7 years ago. I don't remember

Me and my sister own a whole bunch of Guinea pigs. Of the 10+ we've had, only one of mine has died, the rest belonged to her.

Her first guinea pig, Littlefoot, lived for about five years, grew a tumor on her back, then died because the operation was painful and we'd left it too late. Now, less than a year after she bought her guinea pig Petrie, the mirror-image of Littlefoot, this one has grown a tumor and although we don't want her to suffer due to the tumor, we can't bear putting her through the operation.

If my dog died i would most likely burst out crying at random times during class. I would just call the pound to pick him up. I cant bury pets where i live.

Only pet I've lost since I was very young was the cat at my mum's house. He just disappeared one day, and we never found out what happened to him. Also, technically not my pet.

The one pet I've lost that was mine was a mouse I had when I was about 6. Poor things only live for about 2 years. We buried it in the garden. Cried my eyes out.
