Maybe the Old Ones devolved after the Enslaver Plauge....
They both have massive lifespans, are described as "reptillian", and let's face it, a war betweeen necrons and eldar, orks, and VOID WHALES would have been awesome.

So? Maybe their lesser races were humanoid because they felt it was more efficiant for land-based warfare? After all, they themselves only live in space.
They are described as having very long lives. I kind of imagine their society to be like the Dwellers of The Algebraist. A slowly-moving empire dedicated to relaxation. Giant space cities the size of Dyson Spheres, colony ships travelling through a calm, peaceful warp (reflecting the Old One's civilization) to other galaxies. Perhaps even cities within the Warp itself.

1. Space Slaan. Not Old Ones.
2. They did change things. Ergo it's no longer canon. We work with the information that is currently canon. When they change something, you just adapt.

But on a serious note, I dont think the grand creators of most of the life in the galaxy, the warp, and the webway, would let themselves devolve into fat, lucid, spaceborne whales with no clear signs of higher intelegence.
But hey! in a galaxy were SM fight the kraken 10000 leages bellow the sea, and peole ride horses into battle agains fully automatic lasers....

No they've never stated that the Old Ones are not Slaan. They have just greyed the issue and made it a point for debate whether they are or not. Not a clear issue.

"The First Spawning of Slann Mage-Priests came into being" made me think whatwhat was right, but
"The Slann were the only beings able to withstand the presence of the godlike Old Ones, being themselves creatures of prodigious intellect and magical power" makes it seem that Slann in general were created and they are Mage-Priests.
Or were you refering to something else?

Like I said they changed it from 'The Slann Are the Old Ones (or Old Slann)' to a grey area where suggestion is given that the Slann could be the old ones. Which is exactly what the quote you just posted does really.

"The Slann were the only beings able to withstand the presence of the godlike Old Ones" does not suggest they are the same though. That is the part that confused me. Old Slann, I am thinking is the part I miss. I have not read the older books. Yet!

Think there is a flaw in the very question. Unless you mean some kind of WARP whale. The old ones are masters of the warp, c'tan the material world. According to a picture in 'xenology' The old ones were lanky and had massive collars/bunny ears, that is all we know. I can't remember which codex but one definitely suggests using your WHFB lizardmen miniatures as descendants of the old ones. The slann were the first created by the old ones so i would go with frog men or tau looking fellas (tho Tau dont have pointy ears so can't be them).

So the Slann are the only beings able to withstand the presence of the Slann?
That does not make sense, as many of the Lizardmen can do so.

The Slann's first creation was very similiar to them. The Lizardmen if you will. It's possible the Slann themselves are not the Old Ones but their first creation but nontheless they are so similiar that Humans probably wouldn't be able to tell them apart.
Anyways, point is they ain't space whales.

Most of these discussions assume that the Old Ones from both warhamms are the same. What if they aren't?
These hypothetical "Void Ones" would not have devolved. They show no outward sign of intelligance could mean. that with their long lifespans, are thinking far to slowly for humans to understand. Plus really we don't know anything about Void Whales.
Attributing human concepts to a potential "Slow" race (lazy, stupid) is basing the idea that they are thinking like us. Maybe they are thinking much slower than us.

Thanks for the response. Perhaps you should add something that actually has a POINT when you post.
Now, just so this isn't "post count +1", here's another thought:
Imagine how the Necrontyr must've felt, standing on the bridge of their ship, talking to a race of being so utterly alien and so much more powerful than them. A race who could literally control the very warp itself. Talking to a being the size of your ship.
