I'm quite excited myself. Sure, the prequels were pretty craptacular, but did show an encouraging trend of getting better with each installment (mind you, after Ep1 that's like saying you can punch a 5 year old). And if the whole '1,000+ in the future' bears out, there is little fandom to upset at that end of the scale.

And of course, we could even attempt a dangerous infinity loop....Lucas writes...Bowell directs....if we hit absolute bottom, it becomes curiously brilliant.

That, and better casting would help (it's kind of hard to fear Vader when you've seen him as a whiny child, whiny adolescent, and whiny adult). Oh, and no 'crowd pleasers' like Binks would go a long...long....loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way. Oh, and plenty moar Space Battles, kthxpls.

It might not suck spectacularly, if he wasn't directing it. If he is, it will inhale like a mile wide straw.

Hmm... colour me a little sceptical. To abandon the skywalker story seems odd. It's the whole basis of the mythology. If this was true, the Timothy Zahn trilogy of books would be a good kicking off point IMO. Vice Admiral Thrawn was a good villain.

I have to say Frazzled that was a very uninspired reponse.

Considering there hasn't been a SW movie that's actually been a very good movie since 1980, what makes people think yet another trilogy would be any good?

Short of Lucas only producing and staying away from writing and the director's chair, that is.

The resilience and forgiving nature of SW fans are utterly amazing.

Agreed. The three Thrawn books were the best written out of the entire extended universe.

Word, but 1977 for Lucas directing. ESB was not directed by Lucas. If Lucas stuck to the special effects and produced only, then it might not be horrible.
But if he gets any closer it will suck.

If it has more Skywalkers it will suck.

Maybe its just me but Star Wars and ESB were about many players, not just more heroic jedi BS. That got old by the 3rd movie. Yea yea we're after skywalker becuase why? He can't jump 15 feet? Meh, jdark side shmark side just hit him with a scattergun and move on.

There hasn't been a really good George Lucas movie since American Graffitti.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

meh. Even more meh to the idea that episode 3 made improvement on the first two prequels, that film is one big mess, jar jar or not.

Don't believe it. Lucas even said he woulden't make anymore Star Wars movies because the story he wanted to tell has been told.

I like all 6 of the movies and I notice the ones who don't like the
1-3 are those who where around for the original release of 4-6. I know from experience that it"s pretty much impossible for those who have seen the original of something when it was created to approve of a remake or continuance of it later on.

But (respectfully) Star Wars is George Lucas' dream and vision and so he can do with and take it in any direction he wants. If he had made 1-3 when he was supposed to (before making 4-6) and had everything the same (minus some of the digital/special effects and so) I'm sure that i't would be the same scenario where some fans would prefer the original to the new.

Personally I like the EU better than any of the movies as a large part of it does move away from the Skywalker bloodline. Keep in mind these are rumors, just like there have been rumors of a live action TV show for how long now? If anyone knows to take rumors with a grain of salt it should be customers of GW. And I'm taking this with a cup full, I don't believe it.

If it were made that way around i don't think there would be a 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Podracing is all the prequels have going for them imo, that and possibly yoda vs dooku at the time (watching it back the cgi looks very dated and off putting).

If this pans out Ill be happy as long as Skywalker is no where near it. Sure they can mention Master Skywalker, but THATS IT! The whole universe that is STARWARS has so much more going for it then just Skywalker name. I agree about episode 4, its the best by far, followed closely by ESB. Simply because those are mostly about a group, and not one name

And pod races are the gak. They need a movie about podracers. And make it along the lines of Over the Top with Sylvestor Stalone, but about podracing. That would be epic

IF they do make anymore they would probably be about the next big event in the timeline which is the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. And while Luke does have a role in all of it they would probably focus on the Solo children as they play a big role in those events. Luke and Mara haven't had their son Ben at that time.

I saw the originals in the theatre when they first came out, and I also saw the prequels in the theatre. I liked them all. Even though I liked them all, I had certain issues with some of the plot decisions made in part 1 and 2. Jar Jar binks being a complete waste of screen time for one. I though part 3 was the best, I even cried when Anakin became Vader. That is a seriously deep moment in the series.

I know they will make more StarWars movies, because there is just too much money to be made from them not to. Whether it has skywalkers or not. I personally would love to see part's 7,8,9 before the original cast dies out.

There's one thing some people are forgetting, Lucas isn't doing Star Wars for the art. He's in it for the money. If he thinks he can make Ep 7-9 and make a buck, he'll do it.

Umm yeeeaaahhh I don't think so. I honestly doubt that Lucas is destitute and broke considering he's created one of the biggest sci-fi worlds that spans multiple generations and media outlets. He doesen't need to do what he does for the money anymore.

I think you failed to see that my point is that why would Lucas be doing it solely for the money when he is the owner/creator of a multimillion dollar franchise that has its hands in just about every form of media. Don't get me wrong I'm sure he enjoys making money just like the rest of us. But when you get more money in a years worth of royalty checks then most people get in 4 years and when you have as much money as he does you don't do things for the money, you do things for the love of doing them. I'm sorry that all you see in another person is greed.

Bull. I wasn't around back then, though I was when they re-edited it and released it into theaters again. I think I was young back then, but still remember the parts they added could be called crap, eye-sore, and not even worthy of the original, "unremastered" trilogy.

Star Wars 1,2, and 3 are only good for the eye candy. Everyone's acting is sub-par, the plot is a mess, the dialogues are crap, and the "fun parts"... oh woe.

With each episode he launched I thought more and more about this being "his dream". He might've set the original idea, but I think that the treatment he gave it shows how much "feeling" he had going for it.

I believe he does it because he enjoys it. But don't, for a second, think that he's above prostituting the image of Star Wars. If he knows that the big bucks lie with releasing a movie for the kids, he'll do it.

Hell, he gave green light to that horrible CGI movie that imitated Genndy Tartakovsky's brilliant series for cartoon network. He then proceded to green light a CGI series that had zero plot and the most slowed ideas ever for episodes, save for one or two.

Personaly I would like for the bioware writers to get behind a starwars movie, look what they did with the old republic. it was briliant.

But in truth the Star Wars universe should be left to be, it's been passed around a bit too much.

Word, but 1977 for Lucas directing. ESB was not directed by Lucas. If Lucas stuck to the special effects and produced only, then it might not be horrible.
But if he gets any closer it will suck.

Oh, agreed. I think TESB is actually a terrific movie in general...a much better all-around film than the first one, although that one deserves its place in film because it was groundbreaking and such a phenomenon. As an aside, today's kids don't understand how culturally big SW was at the time. There's been nothing like it since, IMO.

Back on Lucas, all you have to do is look at some of the actors in the latest trilogy and compare their performances in the SW movies to their other performances. It's really jarring.

And that being said, the general, overarching story in the latest trilogy isn't a bad one, really. The basic parable of how the Republic turned into the Empire rather than being replaced by it is solid enough. It's everything in the execution save the SFX that's a complete failure.

I agree and disagree. Jedi are clearly part of the winning formula, but they're not the entire winning formula. Which feeds into the greater issue that Lucas lost all sight of what made the first two films work. The series devolved into nothing other than merchandising and ego-driven, obsessive nerdism. Skip the midichlorian nonsense, etc. and give me some snappy dialogue.

Looking at the last decade and change of Star Wars I'm not seeing the pattern of an artist creating because its what he loves to do. I see a guy who's got his hands on a hot property and is doing everything he can to make a buck off it.
