So my brother and I were talking about drafting FAD rule stats for our 40k figures. I was going through the Tech Manual expansion where I discovered the Laser Rifle, which is one of the longest ranged infantry weapons in the game (x8, meaning a "conscript" quality guy can shoot out to as far as 72" with it). Then I got to thinking; the Lasgun is from an age when all infantry personal weapons went out to 24" tops - maybe, now that the Tau have broken that years ago, the Lasgun should get a range extension?

No it isn't. It's from an age when weapons varied wildly from what they do now.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

This is true; it's from the days of yore (second edition innit?) Probably could have worded that better.

No, Rogue Trader. To give you an idea of how different things were then, a single (1) shuriken catapult had the potential to wipe out an entire unit, of any size.

You mean the same IG that can take Leman Russ Squads and entire platoons as a troop choice needs longer range basic trooper weapons because a 4th edition army the Guard can beat Close Combat has longer ranged weapons?

God I miss my 24" Shuricats.
Incidentally Infantryman, the 2nd ed lasgun stats were (more or less):
24" range, -1 to hit over 12", str 3, no save modifier. 1 Shot.

...yeah, that's pretty much what he's saying. Corrected that for you.
