The new dark eldar mini's are awsome, but their weapons are ridiculously cool( if not slightly overpowered)
1) An 18 inch melta lance. really
2) Their bomber can drop a void bomb anywhere along its path. this is a small template s9 lance attack, which only scatters d6 inches.
3) strenght 9 lance
4)A 24 inch haywire greneade launcher( if it hit 2-5 glance 6 penatrates).
5)A weapon that if the bearer kills someone he gets a pain token , not the whole unit kills one model and the unit he's attatched to gets fnp.

Its going to be fun when they come out.

They hit hard and fast.
Though their balance is that they are relatively fragile.

This is how it is with every codex....less ranting and raving and more BBQ'ing of DE corpses please.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Strength 9 lance is ok, compared to the S10 melta lance of the Nids though....

I like poison on pretty much everything. Follows the theme of nastiness!

Remember that one time where Dreds could fly and shoot magic missles everywhere? (and have str 6 Force weapons/str 10 power weapons/superpinning)

I'm more looking forward to the Talos upgrades (what they do/how they work strat wise) and the new DE CCWs.

Sanctjud's signature is epically awesome...

Anyway, I'm not yet convinced that they're overpowered. Strong, maybe, but no stronger than any fifth edition codex.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

It's only S6.

2) Their bomber can drop a void bomb anywhere along its path. this is a small template s9 lance attack, which only scatters d6 inches.

It's a shooting attack still, so they can only drop it if they go 12 inches or less. So the bomber will be really close to you if it drops the mine.

3) strenght 9 lance

The vehicle(s?) that has it will only have 2 and it is mounted on an AV11 vehicle.

4)A 24 inch haywire greneade launcher( if it hit 2-5 glance 6 penatrates).

Since when has a glace been that bad?

5)A weapon that if the bearer kills someone he gets a pain token , not the whole unit kills one model and the unit he's attatched to gets fnp.

The Animus Vitae is a special weapon, so the user will not extra attacks due to 2 weapons, poison, ignore armor, etc.

Good job putting it back into perspective Tzeentchling9! I mean really, there's no reason to freak out over the new DE codex. Yes it has it's advantages but I assure you nothing in it is game breaking from what I have seen so far. I just hope all the FoTM players are ready to see fields of burning raiders and have the stomach to play DE.

Great now even DE are shootier (even quality) than my Tau. Railguns aren't so cool anymore. :(

Railguns will always be cool

I guess they have cool stuff, but I still don't like them. Too fragile. T3 is a curse after you've been playing CSM (with T5 Terminators) for a while.

I'm personally laughing quite a bit at the heat lance. STR 6 lance? Unless you are 9" or closer the lance aspect of the weapon is useless. OFC I just realized it's at least possible now to take out a monolith or BT LR w/ blessed hull. DE didn't have that before.

It isn't melta, just an S10 Lance weapon.

An S6 Melta Lance is statistically less good than an S8 Melta non-Lance, except against AV13 or 14 when it is the same. It is worse against MCs as well, so overall it is worse.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

DE are fragile.
That's the trade off.
It's a good trade off.
They could be overpowered and/or cheesy if somone built a list correctly but the biggest problem is that people are complaining about this codex before it has been released.
If you don't think you can beat AV11 vehicles with T3 warriors then your army has a problem.
Note:Apologies if i sound like a d**k

Runnin up on ya.

People complain about every codex before it's released; this isn't anything new. Just look at it this way, the people with the smug expressions on their faces are those long-time DE players that were finally rewarded for their patience and loyalty. :-)

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for a Chaos Dwarf army book.... (not really but I wouldn't be upset if it happened to get done).

To be honest they deserve a new codex as do Necrons and maybe Black Templars although most people would say MEGs don't need help.

And that's part of why I was initially laughing. Lance operates on the basis that Armour > 12 = 12 for the purpose of penetration from a Lance weapon. Well obviously at Str 6 a 12 for Pen is as high as you'd go anyway. The melta part of the weapon is nice however, since you could reach up to 18 (max) for your penetration roll. So yeah, it's still less than the possible 20 from a melta but for DE who have not had this power before, it will be a nice addition.

72 inch range, twin linked, carried by 2 wound terminators. Believe me they are still cool. Besides, just imagine the buff Tau will get in their release.

Anybody seen point cost for all these lances? I believe that we will see that the increased cost will lead them to be less shooty than the previous version of the army.

If the DE gets the first turn then whoever's facing them will see lots of hell. Vect may see alot of use now due to that too (4+ seize the initiative).

Dark Eldar can still field a metric ton of Darklight weaponry still. This hasn't changed 'much'.

And Jetbikes get melee strikes passing over enemy units.

I also agree. They are fast and close to medium range hard hitting. That's always been their thing. Being more fragile to balance it out. If these guys get a few bad rolls or don't execute their plans properly they get whittled down fast.

Yeah, and they can really struggle to get in against armies that can pack lots of high S shots that down transports and flamers that can paste infantry. Like IG (massed multilasers/acs + vehicle HF), Space Wolves (massed MLs), etc. Good thing nobody plays those armies!

What?

Lances cost 25 points each.

Blasters cost 15 points each.

you can now only take 1 blaster per choice (instead of 2) and the 1blaster 2 DL is going to cost you...

9*20 (you need 20 to take 2 lances)
180+ 15 (blaster)
195+ 50 (2 DLs)
245 x6 =1470 for a grand total of 18 lance weapons (12 are heavy, 6 have 18 inch range)

Old codex was 220 points per 4 lance weapons. (or 1320 points for 24 lances, for those who want the math)

You can buy them a raider for a 60 point lance if you REALLY want(Giving you 24 lances for a total of 1830 points), but lance spamming is now MUCH harder for DE. (You also cant stick cheap lances in your Drachon retinues anymore)

Edit: Btw, I made a "Max Lance List" just for fun, heres what I got

HQ
Archon w/B x2 = 150
CS:1 of each choice + Raider x2 = 270 (420) ((4 lances))

Elite
Kabal Truebornx 7
4xB
2xDL
1 Dracon w/BP = 214 x 3 = 642 +180 [3 raiders] = 822 (1242) ((28 lances))

Troops
Kabal Warriors x20
1x B
2x DL
1 Syberite w/BP = 270 + 60(raider) 330x6 = 1980 (3222) ((58 lances))

Fast
Scourges (yeah, they are FA now)x10
DLx4
Solerite w/BP = 305x3 = 915 (4137) ((73 lances))

HS
Ravager x3 = 315 (4452) ((82 lances))

DL= Dark lance
B= Blaster
BP = Lance Pistol
So 82 lances for just under 5k points...

but you could cut down to about 40~ lances in around 1500 points (30 of the lances are costing you 2k of the points, and all things considered, you could also cut the 11 raiders (costing you 660 points) and you would only lose 11 lances.

So I might try lance spamming with them again (using scourges as gunline seems rather broken...) but warrior-lance spam seems very ineffecient these days...

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

The heavy weaponry is fine, nothing too outrageous. Far more potent is army-wide poison weapons to deal with any toughness.

Lance spam is still viable, if you're a traditionalist, but has been replaced with several new options to do the same job. It's the versatility and depth of choice that make them significantly better than they were and will make them highly competitive.
