Greetings Comrades and Wolf Brothers! I've just started this army and plan to call it the Claw of the Doom Wolf. Everything is still in the very beginning, and so your constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!

Group Shot of the whole Family:

3 Drop Pods, 3 units of Terminator Wolf Guard, 2 units of Missile Fangs, One pack of pups.

2 Cardboard pods next to one of GW's for comparison

These Pods are far from perfect. They are a bit chunky and could use some detail work. The important thing here is that the cardboard box I made the first one from cost $4 and came with free frosted flakes. As always constructive criticism is appreciated as I plan to make 2 more.

Close Up

Test Blood Claw Model

This guy is a test of the color scheme. Please let me know what you think before I get to much further into the painting. He's converted from the battle for mccraig set and a maurader head and could use some more wolf parts to help him fit in.

TDA Wolverine

I know that paired claws are not necessarily optimal, but it looks so cool. I'm going to try and practice on some other models before I attempt to paint this guy. Also, his arms are held on with putty until I can get around to adding the magnets. I need to find some kind of tutorial or something...

Grimnar and The Boys

I'm still thinking about how to equip these Pod Squads. Grimnar's may include an Ass Cannon.

Rune/Wolf Priest Conversion: Eye of The Raven

He's going to have one those old grizzled heads from the Marauder Horsemen kit. I intend to etch some runes into the shield, armor, and Axe. I am using a TDA Chaos lord body and pieces from the Chaos Warrior kit. I intend for this character to have a slight chaos feel, but not to much. I'm working out some kind of 13th company connection and back story. He still needs to be cleaned up, and he's being held together with puddy till I'm sure I've got him how I want him. Your advise is appreciated as I proceed.

My Long Fangs: Missiles FTW!

Note the Cyclones. The paint job is far from over. I know it's a mess right now, but I'll clean it up as I get ready to tighten up all the details.

Fernsian Wolf Pups may have been negatively influenced by time spent with 13th company.

It's been a while since I've done much of any modeling or painting and so I'm looking forward to what you all have to say. Big props to Wolf Brother Sakrelig, as his work has been a huge inspiration. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/292999.page

on another note, I am currently thinking about how to expand these guys. The general concept, is a blitzkrieg alpha strike in the first turn. I play casually, but appreciate a well thought out army whose parts compliment each other and work in concert. I have considered a Land Raider full of blood Claws, More Terminators, Thunder Wolves, Scouts, Dreadnoughts, and Swift Claws.

Thanks for your time.

I'm sorry, but even though the pods only cost $4, I would say you should simply save up £25 (whatever it is in $) and get the proper ones. I admire your effort to make a cheap alternative to the pods, but they just look too slapdash.

I disagree, i think you did a great job on the drop-pods, they look really good altough they're homemade,
sure, they still could use some more touch-ups, and maybe a little more detail
but hell, they look better then alot of home-made pods i've seen.

I i think it's a little silly spending all that money on drop pods, it could go to a hell of a lot cooler stuff.

The army is looking great so far, keep it up !

Thanks to both of you for the criticism. I hope to do some more work with these, and I also hope that as I put more together they will look less orky and more refined. I've never tried cardboard models before, and I hope to get to the point where people won't even notice. I'm hoping to get there with experince and tips from all you pros out there. It's only a matter of time before I'm turning fruit loop boxes into Thunderhawks.

And to everybody else, thank you for the encouraging words, please feel free to let me know as you see room for imporvement. It's been along time since i've done any modeling or painting, and I have never really worked with marines, as the whole codex astartes has always rubbed me the wrong way.

I just converted some wolf scouts for the army. I used some maurader bits as well as SW stuff I had lying around.

I know the frost axe looks way bigger than that dude could carry w/o terminator armor, but I like it . Also, priming models in Virginia humidity is a bad idea. Sorry they are so hard to see. I'll post better pics as soon as I can.

For your primer needs, try Automotive grey, reddish and white primers. The humidity does not bother them as much, with the exception that it must be over 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold weather affects it and it becomes tacky to the touch.

Update! I have not done anywhere near as much work as I'd have like to on these guys this summer. Even still, I thought I'd show you what things are looking like at this point. My paint scheme has changed directions, and have come to look a lot more like GWs colors than I had intended.

-I've added more cardboard drop pods and now have 5, which means 3 to the face in turn one.

-TDA Wolverine is still one of my favorite models. I tried to finish up the base colors and paint his face. His skin looks like garbage. I'll have to try it again. I'm looking forward to the detail work, but no I need the practice. I run him in a squad full of Logan clones with paired wolf claws.

-I've converted a wolf Lord on a bike. He's still needs to be based.

-Added a bike squad. I bought it for cheaps with awful paint. I'll need to strip them before going any further.

-Converted a squad of Scouts. I'm very pleased with how they look, and their performance on the table. for next to no points, they destroyed a crisis team that was rapid firing plasma into my termys

-I'm starting with the long fangs, because I think they are the bee's knees and need some painting practice before I tackle the wolf guard.

- Dried brushed 2 cyclone missile launchers. I have to concede that they would have looked better if I took the time to paint them for real. They still need a lot of work. I tried to highlight the rockets, and failed. I'll have to start over and blend the colors next time, as opposed to just slapping a red dot on them.

- I also tried drybushing the wolves, but this was a disaster. I'll be stripping them and starting again.

I have not finished a single unit this summer. When fall comes, I'll be back to working in my elementary school and college at night. Combine that with the a baby and other family stuff, this may be last month to really spend time working on this army for a long time to come. All that being said, I couldn't help myself from working on a Warriors of Chaos army. Now I'll never finish either army! Damn my ADD

Thanks for looking, and offering any advice you may have.

When I had those guys I took one look at them and said there was no way I was going to paint them. Too much detail, to much work. I am glad you ended up with them, your doing a great job.

On a side note from an Ard Boyz list I wish I had made this combo. Logan, 3 x rune priests using the 2d6 stg 7 power, 5 lascannon longfangs, terminator with cyclone missile launcher and power weapon the the squad leader.

Use logan for tank hunters and that leaves you with 5 st10 lascannons, 2 st9 missiles, 6D6 st8 pyschic shots for two targets a turn.

Once the vehicles are decimated then relentless and walk and shot. Get to combat and you have logans awesome attacks, 3 force weapons, powerfist termie and whatever wepaon you gave to the squad leader. Not to mention counter attack and logans once per game +1 attack for friendlly units.

Its an expensive combo but its great at shooting, saving and combat.

3 Rune priest is evil. I played against blood angels last night and my priest shut down almost all of Mephiston's powers by himself. 3 Would have made it impossible. Last week, he ate a Carnifex with Jaws. Crazy stuff, I can't imagine what it would be like to run 3. They are cheap enough that I am heavily considering adding a third. Now you've really got me thinking....

And as for adding for 5 tank hunting las cannons, that'd be nuts. I run one squad with 2 las cannons, 3 rockets and another with 5 rockets. I had an ork player quit a capture control mission because I shot all of his transports out from under him and he knew he didn't have a chance of walking into them, let alone getting into CC with my termys when he got there. All that being said, I think 5 las cannons may be over kill. But as you said, you are thinking Ard boys, and I know that's a completely different game.

Lol, I personally love those drop pods. Way cooler looking than my cans of green beans. I also like TDA Wolverine. I also enjoy the drybrushing of your armor. I personally like the texture it gives it. That being said, I know next to nothing about painting, as I am still collecting my wolves. Keep it up!

I agree, I think the drop pods are great. I honestly didn't notice that hey were cardboard until I read the rest of the post. Who really wants to spend that much money on a vehicle that lands and does nothing the rest of the game anyway?

Also, the paint jobs are coming along spectacularly!

On Friday I got three long fangs in the mail from a recent swap and found I couldn't keep myself from putting them together and painting them right away. I've not finished, but I'm enjoying how they are coming along so far. They are quickly becoming some of my favorite models in the army. Hopefully, they'll be melting faces in my FLGS tomorrow night.

I really like the colors on that gem looking thing on his belt and am looking forward to painting those glowing runes.

I'm still working on detail and will have a lot to clean up. I'm still a little nervous about painting the faces, but I feel like I've seen enough tutorials to give it a try later in the week. I also converted some of my Wolf Guard Terminator's power weapons using the really sick looking axes, hammers, maces and swords from the chaos warriors set. I'm quite pleased with these as well, and will post some pictures when I can. This was very easy to do and really makes them look how I imagine they would.

So Logan Grimnar was like "Dude, we need a land raider crusader. Everybody's got one but us."
And I'm like "I've not got $60 bucks for a tank man, I'm a teacher and my one year old son is really expensive. Tell you what, I'll see if I can't make one."

Also, hear is a link to the Army list. I'm still learning about Wolves, so I appreciate any input.

Thanks

I already put this update in a separate thread, but I feel like it belongs here too....

I have bought a pair of flame storm cannons, but think I can manage to do the housing myself.

I really like the Ass Cannons. They feel really Wolfy to me. The housing is a bit sloppy, but I feel like it's passable.

I am trying to Rig up a melta gun, but I don't know if I'll be able to manage it. Let me know what you guys think. I really don't want to buy one...

Thanks for looking, and let me know what you think.

So I've done a little bit more and this Land Raider is really taking shape. I need a few more bits, and I've been to lazy to model some this at the moment. But, I think I'm almost finished.

I still need to make the multi melta, and model a psychotic gunner. My son is excited to show you guys that the flamestorme cannons have arrived.

So, I've not been able to get much hobby in lately because we've been moving. However, I have unearthed models and paint and have stole time that could have better been used around the house to continue working on this army a little bit.

So here's what I've been up to. Nothing is finished, but there is some progress.

I added this ice blue color. It reminds me of ice storms and lightning. I added it to a thunder hammer and as an accent on some of these wolf guard. Let me know what you think.

That's all for now, but I hope to button up some long fangs and wolf guard soon. I should also be able to start bringing this land raider to a close too.
