So I'm bored at work, and I thought of a question I haven't seen before, (well the search function can't find it) plus I've seen a fair few folks admit they are either playing, or have played WoW in the past. So I thought I'd ask a question about your loyalties within the game via a Poll.

So Which faction do you play (or have played previously) in the World of Warcraft, do you stand with Thrall, or alongside the Alliance, are your colours Red or Blue etc etc?




Myself, well as my sig says I mainly play Alliance, although after playing for nearly four years, I also play Horde on the side when I can. However I do prefer Alliance over all which is a little odd as I played Horde first, the Orc in my Sig is my original WoW alt, she's survived all the way to Cata, and will do beyond. My Main is the Draenei Hunter listed below, and it will be with her I try to get to 85 with first, hopefully from midnight Dec 7th, as I'm attempting for first Guild 85 to go with my first Guild to 80 last expansion.


Anyone else willing to share their loyalties?





Oh and please athough the opinion 'I hate WoW' is a valid one, I'd rather not have it clogging up the thread, so please refrain from sharing it with us.

Thinking about the poll, I'm also wondering what drew you to the faction of choice, certain stories, overall look or a certain questline?


For me its a number of reasons, oddly the main one was a falling out with some real life mates with certain folks in their nearly two year old guild when my wife and I first joined the game in 2006.

We sorted the issues out not long after they happened with our actual friends, but at the time of it happening I removed myself from the guild and went to a new realm and tried the other faction to cool off and basically never came back.

Other key factors are two of my fave characters in the game. Bolvar Fordragon.



And Jaina Proudmoore.




Although as I said above I do still play Horde, and thats a lot to do with my overall fave character in the game.

Only went the Horde because all my friends were Horde, even then the Horde races are better imo

Lok'tar Ogar! i don't play it at the moment, possibly will resub when cataclysm rolls out, until now mmo champion does the job. First class was a paladin, human - i sucked horribly (got to about level 30 and BC came out) then i rolled a blood elf paladin. ive had him for sooo long... and at the moment i have a 80 paladin (BE) shaman (troll) and lvl 70+ orc warrior and warlock, they look the most bad ass tbh.

I've played as both factions, but I main Alliance. 2 words: Night Elves. Have you seen them dance? The men dance like Michael Jackson, and the women have the only legitimately sexy female dance in the entire game.
Oh and they look awesome too.

Mostly Alliance, Horde on occasion.

Though the Draenei sort of ruined that. Once I had a Draenei huntress I sort of stopped playing everything else.

I played Alliance first, as a Dwarven Hunter, then switched to an Orc Warrior, which was a lot more fun. I found the Horde home environments more entertaining. I gave the game up though, because it takes too much time. I sometimes consider going back for another go, but I probably won't.

Ask yourself these questions in order and you'll get an answer:

1. Do I have friends that already play who I at least partially match playtimes and playstyles with? Go with their faction.
2. Do I want to get a particular race or race/class combo? Go with the faction that lets you.
3. Which faction's look and storyline do I like better? Go with that one.

If you ask on the WOW messageboards you'll get fanatics for both sides saying that Alliance is a bunch of whiny kids and Horde is a bunch of illiterate teenagers, but the truth is there are idiots and kids on both factions, along with a large number of good players, and the environment on specific servers varies wildly. Don't hesitate to play a character for a while to see if you like the character/faction/server/etc before settling in on a 'permanent' spot.

I started off as Horde, since my friends were Hordes and I didn't want to be stuck all on my lonesome.

Two level 80s later, and I've decided to give Alliance a go and am currently leveling a Dwarf warrior.

I played both up until I hit the Barrens on Horde. I was sold on the absolutely absurd discussions about Metallica, the many facts I learned about Chuck Norris, and the generally ridiculous attitude Horde players had.

Then I hit Stranglethorn Vale. And the Alliance hunted us like animals while we struggled to get the levels we needed to flee that wretched place. Horde players that survived that crucible became vicious monsters that attack other players on sight so that they can't call down their friends to camp us, then go and hide.

I have tried to play Alliance since those times, and I just keep trying to gank myself and anyone I'm partying with.

I've played on both factions, but I kind of prefer the Alliance, mostly because Dranei are cool.

I've played both factions, and on the realms I played Horde, I found the major hordies to be narcissistic and rude, every single one of them. Those few people that played both factions or more alliance were nicer but still had mild superiority complex issues.

On the Alliance side, there are still a few narcissists, but the majority of them couldn't throw an insult if it was jet propelled. The worst they can muster is usually 'nub' or 'nab' as opposed to the horde's heavy use of adult profanity, making it stupidly easy to ignore them as opposed to the more "I want a <profanity> argument! You will <profanity> give me a <profanity> argument you <string of profanities>!" approach of horde trouble makers.

Of course, this is just my realm experience and obviously isn't a blanket, but it's why I almost exclusively play Alliance. I pay to play a game for my enjoyment, not to be yelled at by a walking god-complex with anger issues.

The races also have something to do with it. Orcs I prefer killing, Tauren... meh, don't mind them (as a Space Goat, it'd be a bit hypocritical to say i don't play them because they're bi-pedal cows). Undead... like Orcs, i prefer them as dead as possible, Trolls are okay but I still prefer them as living sheaths. Blelves... the females are nice, males i'm not sold on (think Prince Charming from Shrek...).

As for alliance, Gnomes and Dwarves are out for me. Gnomes are annoying. They're the only alliance race I would gladly turn on. Dwarves are spared because they built a forge in a mountain and are smiths, plus they like their drink. Humans are okay. They're at war with the Orcs, and I like war and hate Orcs.

Nelves, again, the males are a bit... iffy. Their death throes are equally strange, far too dramatic. Whilst The females are also quite dramatic (death spin!) the nerd inside me forgives them because they're the WoW of equivilant of a pin-up girl alongside Blelves and Draenei.

Plus being Space Goats from Space earns them cool points too; it isn't every day that you get to be a bi-pedal farm animal with a marine animal on its face that managed to crash a huge intergalactic ship on a small island.

I play a Undead Rogue. Who is just about to enter the Outlands.

I've actually been pretty solidly playing Horde this week, finished 'the Shattering' novel a few days ago.
A great read, and its really opened my eyes to playing Tauren again, so my Deathknight on The Sha'tar has jumped a few levels.

Means when I transfer my Orc Rogue to Sha'tar some point this month, she may not have to nab Guild leadership for being way and out the highiest lvl Horde there.

I couldn't agree more, dude. Allthough we, spacegoats, are hated by horde and alliance alike (on my server that is), i still love my male Draenei mage and his wife, the Draenei shaman ;-)

I did enjoy being an Undead Rogue and Tauren Hunter.
I tried out being a NE Hunter as it was a big craze when I started...but got so much grief (stealth/aimed shot was pretty huge then)....and then I screwed alot of people over in Molten Core raids by pulling creeps from ramps below that dragged everything up....was quite funny....well for me.

I've played Alliance for the past 3 years, but that's more because I generally play 'humans' in these kind of games, and that's where my friends were playing.


But with cataclysm, I'm jumping ship to Horde, to play a Goblin, and I'm never looking back. They can be most of the races, aside from Paldin and Druid, who i'm not interested in anyway.

I hate WoW, but when I played it with my older cousin, we had a lvl 60 Night Elf Rouge, when 60 was the shiz (and the level cap)
All rare and...purple gear. Is it named epic?
Alas, his security question 'Q: favorite ice cream flavor A: chocolate' was easily guessed and the account was jacked.

I had an alliance rogue (forgot which race, probably gnome/halfling/whatever the midget race is) which I got bored with around level twenty and stopped paying my subscription for, amongst other characters such as a human warlock.

I played that game since it was the flavour of the week for my brothers. I was forced to play it up and it seemed like a huge chore.

Just a bunch of basement trolls waving their E-Peens around in a "who has less of a life" contest

If you couldn't tell I quit the game because I just didn't see what the appeal was.
Everyone tells me "Raiding is so fun" but every time i watched/listened to my brothers playing i couldn't see how it was different from the rest of the game. Plus all the guild drama I had to listen to made me sick.

Their flavour of the week turned into a full on addiction and they still play it. hearing them talking about gear and specs and pvp is so mind-numbingly homo I'm ashamed to even know what they are talking about. Damn I'm so glad I don't live with them anymore!!

I used to play exclusively as Horde, as I prefer the races. Then I stopped playing.

The Worgen are seriously tempting me back, though. >w>
