Hey guys,

With various white acrylics (including GW's bone white) ...*EDIT: I mean, skull white*... i find it really hard to keep an even, clean basecoat (or any coat) without the undercolor or plastic showing through. Unless I were to apply 5 or 6 coats. I am mostly using an airbrush. Any tips on how I can not run through an entire jar of white paint on 10 infantry models' basecoat?

You dont prime them with Skull White Primer first? whenever I need to paint something white or light I just use that as the primer instead of Chaos Black. Always an even coat for me (and if I'm painting in a different color, I can even skimp on the white a bit since it'll be covered with a color anyways).

It was skull white. I typed it wrong. Basically my basecoat wll be exposed through much of my painting because the models will be mostly white.

I use a walmart brand of white paint/primer.... but if i have model i want to do extra detail too i use tayama(sp) white primer its goes on super thin.... keeps the details.... But with white primer you have to base your whole model first with a base color.... its not like block painting were you can leave creaves... white primer shows up

creveces can be fixed with a simple watered down wash or fine liner. Personally I prefer the wash since it's alot easier, although that means you either have to gently wipe down the model with a paper towel or go over the entire thing again to re-cover the stains leftover by the wash.

I'm... a tad confused. Are you guys saying I should basecoat with Krylon enamel paint so that I don't need 6 coats of white paint?

Unless the model is mostly white or you don't mind brighter miniatures on average, the undercoat will affect the overall saturation of the color, you can based the area in grey and work up. http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/2008/10/friday-quick-tip-painting-white-on.html. There's really no magic way to do it. It just takes time.

I just use Krylon flat white primer,it coats fairly evenly and if afterwards I notice any spots showing through,I simply hit them with a little watered down Skull white out the pot.

Base with Vallejo's ''paint on white primer'' its name is ''white primer''. I don't use it for priming, I use it for painting my night lord marine's heads. It only takes a couple of coats. (work your way up with greys of course)

I prefer buying and using vallejo, I just run out to grab individual pots as I need them as GW because that's what every store has. I'd rather not wait for TheWarStore to get them to me when the are ready.

I'll check out more of Vallejo's stuff. I want to stay clear of aerosol cans because you either buy a $4 can of krylon car enamel or a $25 can of off brand stuff... when an airbrish would use half a bottle. Unless of course... it's white paint. Then I would need two or three.

Yes, that is exactly what I would say. The brand name isn't so important, but the type of paint is. Use FLAT white. It acts as an excellent primer. I base a lot of the armies I paint with white and for the longest time had similar issues with bleed-through. I started using a flat primer and problem solved. Sticks to plastics and metals w/o issue, can be easily painted over, and is a good base that helps bright colors to pop out.
