He guys , I joined dakka about a month ago, and i am loving it i have being scratch building a lot but have not painted anything since i have been here.
(as anyone whos being to my blog can testify) i plan on painting my latest creation in asap,( bought some paints today) a ww1/2 inspired artillery, for my paraxian guard (napoleonic ig) i did a bit of research but most stuff from ww1 and ww2 is in b&w not exactly any help ! i was considering army green ,brass , or gunmetal. but will really consider anything . my ground paint scheme is going to be autumnal, Thanks neil101

I believe most of the army stuff from that era was painted flat OD. Nice model Btw.

Thanks Thortek, i thought it might be , but couldnt confirm. the dkok arty models in forgworld are that colour, if i use that scheme it would compliment the red/orange autumnal feel.

I would think it would mainly depend on the terrain it sits on. I mean, if it's in the desert it can't be olive. Well, it can be but it's better if it's not.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Heavy artillery was sometimes painted camouflage in WW1.

hi neil,

well if you ask me i would paint it indark grey.
by doing this it would look rather depressing and thus capturing the spirit of trench wars... also it probably would look could combined with brown mud and half destroyed vegetation...

cheers, vik

Dunno why but from your fluff I imagined that the artillery regiments would be thought of as sort of superior to the footsloggers.
"Hear about Bob, only got himself moved to the guns."
"Lucky b*****d, s'pose his family knows the right people."

If that is the case then this piccie is quite nice and is perhaps a bit more interesting than olive drab.

Your question should be "Could it be hidden". There would be no point in camoflaging it if the enemy couldn't miss it as breaking up it's profile would then be pointless. This also applied for emplacments that wouldn't be seen during the day (British Heavy Anti Aircraft Batteries for example) which would often stay in basic black or grey.

This is a nice example of a large WW1 gun - obviously the enemy aren't going to be able to miss this thing as it's sat on the railway, so no point in disguising it.

Whereas the Mirus guns on Gurnsey would have been spotted during the day by ships so to try and disguise them they built a cottage around the emplacements and gave the guns a low profile.

Dark and Pale colors is the way to go, also depends on your theme. Also you're the artist, you can make it whatever you want.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Personally I prefer the more tan colourscheme than the olive drab. I'm planning on using Desert Yellow as a base for my WWI/II IG.

I'd paint a lot of the cogs/etc an oily brass, with the odd bit picked out in silvery metal (In the GRIM darkness of the future, there is only BRASS!).

The bunker/housing at the rear and rail mounts I would probably paint a concrete grey with sooty black dirt.

And lots of mud/dirt everywhere

Edit: Also, that is a pretty cool bit of modelling
