Most religions have no hierarchy. Christianity is probably one of the most organized religions around, if not the most organized (the Catholic Church being the king of hill in that regard).
How organized a religion is though has little to do with it's ability to adjust itself. Buddhism sprung up from a reform movement in Hinduism. Hinduism has gone through four or five reform movements. Islam has gone through a few itself over the centuries. Reform movements happen regardless of organized hierarchy, because it's almost always the believers who do the reforming, not the religious elite.
I'm not. Thats exactly what ISIL did in the areas it controls and is attempting to do in Libya and Egypt.

And besides... Islam does actually have a hierarchy. Depending on whether you're Shia or Sunni (or even the other minority groups that never get talked about), and what country you live in, there is a system that looks fairly similar to the RCC, only one of them is missing their "pope" and the other one doesn't really believe that that person is necessary.
I mean that few religions have the top down organization of Christianity. Islam has that belief in a Caliph for some, but that persons role isn't really the same as the Pope. The Christianity can at times have an authoritarian way of looking at faith, where X, Y, and Z are the tenets of the faith and that's what believers are supposed to do (which is also why there are so many denominations of Christianity, far more than most religions).
Islam operates in a way more akin to case law, where religious experts explore issues, and render decisions, but their decisions are not binding.
I'm not. Thats exactly what ISIL did in the areas it controls and is attempting to do in Libya and Egypt.
Considering that the discussion is about reforming Islam, your post game me the impression you were suggesting that.
Nope nope nope I am not advocating such. They are using violence to impress their view of Islam upon the region. if they win, it will work.

If the world truly united against them, they would be wiped off the map I'm short order and western nations, locals and Kurds pooled resources into one combined assault to end all assaults.

The United States could go into the Middle East and wipe out every ISIS soldier in a matter of weeks, if we wanted too. "Destroying ISIS" isn't the solution, though, because when ISIS goes someone else is just going to take their place. The problems in the Middle East/Africa stem from deeply embedded ideologies and poor living conditions. Military force doesn't accomplish anything.

I agree. A matter of hours maybe, if nukes were deployed. But indeed, new anti-Western groups would spring up as soon as the old ones die. And the rest of the world would hate the US even more for it. If the US goes in with too much violence, it would create more problems for itself than that it would solve. ISIS is more than just people with guns, ISIS is an ideology. You can't fight ideologies with force, as that is a fight you will inevitably lose. ISIS will only ever be defeated when its its supporters no longer feel threatened in their way of live and when ISIS' main opponents (the Syrian and Iraqi states) become more attractive to its supporters than ISIS itself. Which basically means that the Middle East has to become a nicer place to live. And no, contrary to what some may think, American bombs really don't make the place nicer.

Don't forget British bombs.... I'm not still mad about that vote.... honest.
Hey, Yanks! So how do you determine between the "good terrorists" which you support with money, information, training and weapons and the "bad terrorists"?
When you stop selling MANPADS to terrorists, people might take your complaints about the US seriously.

The militant has gained a bloody reputation as one of ISIS's most feared butchers after beheading dozens of prisoners and amputating young children.
He has infamously been pictured in black robes and a mask while wielding a three-foot sword to behead his victims.

But just like Jihadi John, the ISIS executioner who was eventually unveiled as Mohammed Emwazi, the coward has apparently never dared to show his face on camera.
One of the first images of The Bulldozer surfaced in June 2014 when he was pictured wielding what appears to be a five-foot-long, 52kg Browning machine gun, with armour-piercing bullets.

The weapon, which can be used as a light anti-aircraft gun, is usually mounted on turrets, tanks or fixed structures.
ISIS websites also published pictures of the same man beheading two suspected blasphemers in front of hundreds of men and young boys in Iraq's Anbar province.
Images show the terrorist leaping into the air before bringing the large sword crashing down onto the neck of his helpless victims.
A final picture shows the bloody corpses of the headless men strewn across the courtyard as his fellow terrorists disperse the gathered crowds.

Bitter end: Omar says 'The Bulldozer' (pictured after carrying out a beheading in Iraq) gathered children to watch the bloody amputation
Last year, a 14-year-old Syrian boy told how the mammoth extremist chopped off his hand and foot because he refused to join ISIS.
Omar, who was captured fighting for a rebel group and tortured for more than a month, said the Bulldozer gathered a large group of children to watch the bloody amputation.
Omar kept an image of the man who mutilated him on his mobile phone.
It showed the monster, dressed-head-toe in black, propping himself up with the blade he uses to maim helpless youngsters.

Nah, drag him behind it a ways with a chain. Saves having to wash off the jihadist bits. I seem to recall that area has some truly nasty plant life to drag him through too.

An unmarked. Forgotten grave in the desert. May no one ever find his "shrine" and let the desert swallow another nameless body into its sands.

That's a good idea actually. All the jihadis found should be shot and buried in unmarked graves, and then wiped from the records. No shrines, no martyrdom...just non existence.
