Just asking your personal opinion and your reasons!

Mine are the Forces of Chaos because they allows me unlimited freedom when building mini's! I consider the Daemon, Warriors of Chaos, and CSM line to be the same for "technical" purposes when it comes to modeling. Same iconography, plus CSM have the generalized rules for Daemons which can be from any of the chaos gods. In addition to the fluid nature of chaos itself, this provides a ridiculously huge range of mini's to choose from.

Forces of the Imperium covers Inquisition, SoB, etc.

For the purposes of this poll SM includes all chapters and models.

No Nids? I find nids to be awesome for converting. So many toys to use for parts. Most of my Nids are converted in some manner, well my big bugs at least.

Wow, Orks are crushing this poll. And I'd agree when it comes to vehicles, weapons, buildings... $10 and a few lawn sales will net you enough kitbash models and toys to stay busy converting for most of your natural lifetime. But the Orks do not translate as well when it comes to actual troop conversions, and this is where Chaos takes the prize. Almost the entire GW range could find a place somewhere in a Chaos army, and then there are the countless aftermarket shops where bitz and alt. miniatures are available. If a kinda sorta Orky model doesn't really look like an Ork, it's not an Ork. But if a kinda sorta Chaos-type trooper doesn't really look like a Chaos Marine, add GW shoulder pads and helmet. Chaos wins.

I'm also suprised at how badly the orks seem to be winning this battle!

I guess its their limitless numbers and rattletrap steampunk tech that gives em the guts to win.

I love to convert orks. I just finished a warboss I liked a lot. He has a grot hanging form his power klaw and another that's the ammo backpack from the lootas and burnas. A boy lies dead on the ground at his feet with a choppa stuck in his head.

The Imperium using advanced technology is like drinking Pepsi out of a Coke bottle.

I think Chaos are best for 'simple' conversions.....(Because of the amount of Chaos bits that can be used for multiple things....)

But Orks are probably best for being really creative, i've seen quite a few scratch built Ork models....

Imperial Guard offer so much scope for conversion, from cavemen with guns all the way to high tech drop troops.

And then there are the vehicles!

Orks for vehicles, Chaos for infantry.

Overall I'm gonna have to say orks though.

Go look in the Project Blog and Tutuorial sections. Plenty of folks including myself are working on serious chaos projects. I wouldn't really call chaos "simple" more like "flexible" when it comes to organic shapes and a lack of technical GS skills. Personally I think that this is a major reason for the popularity of Nurgle, but its not like thats a bad thing. I mean who doesn't like disgusting puss spewing daemons?

Hmph... no fantasy options.

It's kind of funny, I've been a High Elf player since forever, but they are my least favorite for conversions. They are so... uniform that if you mess up a little bit, the whole model/army can be thrown off.

My favorite for conversions, so far has to be Skaven. So many possibilities! And you can scrounge from every one else's stuff, too. Probably similar to 40k Orks, in that regards.

i voted sm cause you cant walk three steps and not stumble over some sm bits. so its easy to get sm bits and also they have big arms so you can use almost anything from whf as well. used oger bits to make ccw and so forth...
also think about it, with so many sm armies ariund the need to convert is so iminent, cause who wants endles smurfs standing around collecting dust...

Definetly Imperial Guards.. Not maybe best race for converting but still in the top. And it is my favourite. Just can't have enough of making all the custom weaponry, tanks and all.

Orks are generally good for equipment conversions and by far the easiest. Infantry falls onto the Chaos boys, as I've seen everything from loyalist marines to zombies and to WHFB Chaos Warriors used for them. Imp Guard stands somewhere in the middle. There's lots of possibilities for the troopers themselves (such as mixing parts from the two base Guard Armies, to using models that are completely unrelated, such as converted Chaos Mutants) and vehicles (there's a huge amount of posts in the Treadhead thread in Warseer and there use to be a treadhead article section on the GW website).

The truely most convertable army to have ever existed, however, are the Lost and the Damned. They combined the rough ramshackled look of ork vehicles with the mutated infantry of Chaos. You could literally combine both ork parts, Imp guard, Chaos Marine, Ork-style tanks, Imp Tanks and Chaos bitz all into one shambling mass of bodies and it will look right and awesome. Pity that they are no longer a legal army.

Too true. I think people like orcs because they take so damn well to rough cut plasticard and random masses of cartoonish weapons. Which are both great reasons!

Glad to see Chaos is in second at least. Thats mah boyz!

Chaos is pretty fun to work with.......

Orks provide lots of options but so often it ends up with random assemblages of "stuff" being glued together. The number of good ork conversions is only a small fraction of the whole (many of which end up being showcased here so I think the Dakka boardies are spoiled ). Similarly for Chaos so often it ends up being a case of "raar, let make it moar chaosey by ADDING SPIKES!!1!1111".

My own favourite for subtle but effective conversions is the Guard. There are so many good kits that fit together well. Add in all the after market stuff and an infinite realm of effective conversion lies before the humble modeller

While I enjoy converting Space Marines, Chaos, Orks and Tyranids I would go with Space Marines as my choice, I preffer to make "heroic" looking models over anything else but they are all a blast to work with.

I like the Eldary races (Dark Eldar are now in my favorite boat, along with the Craftworld cousins) because there are some really nice plastics, and the aspects are all variations on those plastics. It gives you a really good opportunity to do 'counts as' models. All the kits look close enough that you can mix and match them.

Plus they are the easiest to interchange bitz between themselves and the High Elf/Dark Elf/Wood Elf kits, giving a huge range of potential army types. (That's not even going into how awesome Maiden World Exodite raptor riders look.)

(Speaking from experience, having converted Fire Dragons, Scorpions, Warp Spiders and Swooping Hawks from Dire Avengers. And having converted Warlocks, Farseer, Storm Guardians, and Banshees from Guardian squads. And Shining Spears, and Exodite cold one riders from a mix of parts.)

Really looking forwards to mixing the different kits together for Dark and Craftworld Eldar. (Wyches to Harlequins, Wraithlord to Pain Engines.)

The massive amount of plastic space marine bits out there by far makes them the best race to convert.

Eldar is slowly becoming the new Space Marines in terms of convertablility. DE and CE are both interchangable now much like CSM and SM.

Agreed! The guard are the basic humans and are easily just as varied as the race of man, you can take any concept from history throw a lasgun on it and BAM! Guardsmen. Nigh infinite possibilities.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.
