I got a good deal on some metal figures but it looks like the previous owner dunked them in superglue. How can I remove all traces of this glue and see the details on the figures again? Thanks

Sounds perfect, Walmarts a bit far but I'm sure we have acetone over here. How long do I soak them for and will the glue just full off or do I need to scrub them?

More time can't hurt. I'd hazard to say 24 hours would be fine though.

Failing that Nitromors will cause it to bubble off.... but it is nasty stuff so take care when using.

And it will goopify any plastic parts.

If you can find it, Goof Off Spray will soften the glue and a gentle prod with a toothpick will get it off. It also only takes about an hour for it to work and wont damage metal models.

What kind of an effect does it have on plastic?

depends on the plastic.

Some plastics it does nothing to. Some plastics it will make the plastic melt faster than if you put it in the microwave with the power set to "meganuke!"

Also, if you're near a college or universities, physics departments often have 1-gallon jugs of acetone just lying around.

Goof Off will corrode GW plastics and generally dull or outright destroy fine details on them. However I've seen other plastics, namely a dollar store pallet I bought, be extremely resistant to it.
