Well my local store had an improtu contest to build and paint a new army. The idea is you start with 500 points of an army, build it, paint it, etc within 3 weeks. Then you go on to your next 250 points, etc., to a maximum of 1750 points (our local tournament size). If you dont have your army painted at the end of each cycle, you owe the other players a $15.00 blister. Though I came into the contest at the end of the 500 point cycle, I have until the first Saturday of December to complete the first 500 pts and the current 250 pts...yay me.
I wanted something different, not Imperial rules wise though. I like converting and doing odd ball stuff, so I decided to go with a pre-heresy theme army based on the Sister of Silence. I decided though to use the Dark Eldar rules, because they are new, no one in the store is doing them and, well Ive been playing since '89, I can jump on any band wagon I want
First up is a Haemonculus Ancient (knight-commander), 9 wyches (prosecutor squad) and a razorwing fighter (498 pts), with a my next 250 pts being 5 wyches and a venom. My vehicles for the most part are count-as, utilizing the rules for count-as from RTT's and 'Ard Boyz and clearance from my local store TO. I will post tommorow my Razorwing fighter (painted Thunderbolt). Today though I have my works in progress:
Wyches
Haemoculus Ancient
Hope you enjoy.

good stuff so far, I've been waiting to see some more of your work since the blood angels release. I'm sad I couldn't be there to participate, it sounds like a fun contest.

Its an unoffical contest but contest just the same. Still working on the blood angels, got another storm raven built, just got to run some LED lights through it, paint and post. This project takes priority though (I dont want to fork out 5 blister packs).

Here are a few more pics of my first 750. First up is my venom transport ( FYI the models attached will have torso replaced with the wyche torsos in the previous pics) and then my raider. The raider Im having difficulties with and could use some opinions. I could just mount the DE dark lance on their but was thinking of adding the lascannon defence system. Its big and clunky and after looking at it, Ive pretty much changed my mind but would like some opinions anyways.

Great stuff so far but I'd have to deny you that lascannon defence turret......... omg it's just so........ unsightly I'd suggest some sort of tri-pod or mount with a lascannon on it with a gunshield, probably manned by a "sister" but that's just my opinion, I think it would look a good sight better.

I actually like the look of it towards the rear of the Raider, the flowing lines mixed with the harsh imperial mechanics has a nice pre-heresy, steampunk feel to it

It works better at the rear of the vehicle, however I agree that it is...odd. Thankfully its not glued so I can add the dark lance or something more suitable to its size and design. On a different note, to give the army a more "Imperial" feel, would swapping out the splinter pistols on the wyches with bolt pistols be better or worse? Im going to probably have to work on a mock up.

When it's at the rear of the raider it reminds me of that one sand-skiff in Starwars: Return of the Jedi As I said, onle lascannon could do it, but do as you wish. As for the bolt pistol idea........ one part of me can see it causing confusion with your opponents but on the other hand it just makes fluff-sense.

Put it on the rear of the vehicle. The oddity looks good! The Sisters of Silent (as well as the Adeptus Custodes) are this rare thing in the Imperium in which elegant is combined with crude. I would give the standard Sisters more Imperial looking weaponry though...

I think the gun looks pretty damn cool on the rear of the raider.
Also, love the land speeder.
This army will be great when it is done judging from what you have shown so far

Pretty cool 'Sisters' conversions... some good kit bashery there. I feel the paint job is a bit rushed though, lets them down a bit IMO.

the more i like at the models the more i think you really need to get rid of the eldar guns, they take away some of the imperial vibes which should be everywhere for the sisters of silence

Well here is a mock up with a bolt pistol.
The painted models are not done yet, I was just showing for a quick reference on color scheme, etc. The gold was done with a layer of Scorched Brown, then dry brush Shining Gold. I will highlight a few areas with thin lines of Shining Gold then a smaller, thin line of Mithril Silver. Automatically Appended Next Post: I left the pistol "top" of the splinter pistol, I will probably shave down so the pistol doesnt look that gigantic lol.

Still having second thoughts of the lascannon on the raider. It looks like it fits but its a little larger then the decking it sits on. Plus being mounted on the rear interferes with the pilot. I have some autocannon bits and imperial weapon shield mounts Im going to mess with tonight and will post that mock up later. Thankfully we get a lot of time off for Thanksgiving, giving me way to much time to paint them up (also my local stores Island of Blood box Im painting for them.)

Thanks. On top of the imperial eagles symbols on the way in, I have a second Thunderbolt/Razorwing coming with them. Which will figure into my 1250 points part of the project. After reviewing my work, I realized I was only waiting on the parts for the Raider(s) and a few other future models, so I will have the Venom up and painted this week with the next squad of Wyches.
