Greetings fellow Dakkaites,

It has been a long while since I have been able to post on this website. Between finishing school and being in charge of 110 people, my life has been somewhat hectic the last few months. This is going to change, however briefly, as an old friend of mine, Extrenm(54), and I embark on a combined Battlefleet Gothic and Warhammer 40K campaign the likes of which neither of us have ever conducted. I am writing this message as the opening announcement, which will be followed with a short teaser. The two of us will continue to use this thread as we chronicle the exploits and battles of a jointly operated Khornate, Nurglish, and Dark Mechanicum fleet and army as they descend upon the beleaguered Imperial Guard and PDF defenders of Veritia Prime and its moon. Questions, comments, and noteworthy suggestions for improvement are welcome along the way, as we will be taking copious amounts of notes so that we may engage in more successful and larger campaigns in the future.

For now though, get excited! More will follow.

Greetings All,

First off, glad to see there's an interested following! I've met with my counterpart a couple of times now to discuss the mechanics at length (as well as get a quick game of BFG in to shake off the rust), and everything's coming along quite nicely. I don't want to publish what we've got until we're pretty comfortable with how it works (our testing phase will happen during Christmas-time), but for now, I will provide you all with a little tidbit of fluff:

Exceprt from Administratum Centennial Report regarding Veritia Star System:

Colonized sometime in late M25, if Explorator's geological team's surveys are accurate. Isolated by warp storms and ravaged by internecine warfare shortly thereafter, during The Fall. Reintegrated into Imperial fold during Great Crusades, site of major battle between Imperial Army and traitor forces during the Horus Heresy. Aministratum records indicate that the massive collateral damage led to subsequent redesignation as an Agri-World. Adeptus Mechanicus Explorator forces discovered relics of Great Crusade during a refueling stop in-system. With Mars' belssing, Magos Fleet Commander established permanent base of operations and manufactoria on Veritia Prime's largest moon (Veritia Minor).

++ Transcribed from Adeptus Mechanicus logs: Low-gravity environment proves to be ideal for heavy machinery manufacture, as well as study of anti-gravitic mechanism and machine spirit of disabled Ordinatus weapon. ++

Added industrial development during M39 led to reinvigoration of planetary industry. Population density improved to that of a low-level Hive World, while agricultural focus of majority of its landmass allowed for special dual-state status. Corresponding Imperial Tithes have been approved for low-population worlds, with the advantage of permitting a higher level of supply by the Minoris Forge that has been established by the Mechanicum. PDF technological assets comparable to low-tech Imperial Guard forces. Grenadier Regiments are correspondingly heavily mechanized, and are even supported by four full regiments of Baneblade and Shadowsword Super Heavy Tanks, which the Adeptus Mechanicus has generously provided.

++ Transcribed from Ordo Dialogus notes: Veritian Grenadiers are a local colloquialism for Imperial Guard forces on Veritia Prime. ++

It has been noted in the past that the Mechanicum does not cooperate with Administratum communiques ordering said Super Heavy regiments off-world.

Abbadon's 13th Black Crusade has left much of Gothic Sector in disarray. The Mechanicus' Legio Veritas, a small series of titan maniples originating from Veritia Minor, has been devastated during the defence of the Cadian System, and have been reported to the Departmento Munitorum to be on Indefinite Inactive Status while recovering their substantial losses. A similarly large number of Super Heavy vehicles were destroyed, leaving the Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii to redeploy themselves in an isolated, defensive posture on Veritia Minor. Veritian Grenadiers that were otherwise deployed were therefore played on a shorter deployment cycle, as the subsector's System Defence Force (SDF) was needed for tighter patrols to protect the Minoris Forge [Note: Naval deployment changes approved by Regional Commander] and the three start systems upon which it relied for raw materials and ant-proton manufacturing centers.

Despite this redisposition, PDF forces remain on Low-Alert Status. A full half are on Inactive Duty at any given time, their troops working in the cities or tending the family farms, returning for duty only for seasonal combat drills and exercises [Note: Administratum approval has been given, co-signed by Munitorum personnel. Sector strategos and calculus logi have determined only a 6.93% probability of catastrophic outcome, based upon known Xenos and Ruinous Powers intententions and dispositions, under a Low-Risk Peacetime Decision. In the event of unholy incursion, however, field decisions will automatically override all long-term analysis, which will of course be rendered null and void.].

Report Ends.

Quick resurrect update. Extrenm(54) and I have been at work on this for a solid couple of months, so this is still happening (Mods, didn't feel this deserved a new thread, just providing a quick FYI with this old one).

Here's what we have so far:

1. Campaign Book & Storyline (In Progress) -- Initial information and first handful of missions are storyboarded

2. Dramatis Personae & Faction-Specific Descriptions (Complete!)

3. Forces of the Imperium (Complete!) -- The Veritian Guard, Veritian Defense Force, Black Templars, and Skitarii Army Lists

4. Forces of Chaos (Complete!) -- The Blood Seekers

For the army lists, we're basing them off of the existing Codices, with small rules changes for flavor, or making optional upgrades mandatory to reflect combat doctrine and such. We've changed up the initial story a touch, but we expected the world we're populating with these characters to evolve as we went on.

We're both pumped for this project. We're going to continue writing and story-boarding, but all battle reports and late-term story work is on hold while I finish training and Extrenm(54) works for a year in Japan. We're trying to figure out when we will cross paths (or be able to afford to travel to one's residence or the other), but for now, know that the Campaign is still moving!

I'll add to that by saying that I may be a bit slower than Extrenm(54) in getting my part of the material uploaded. Finishing out a final semester of classes, while coordinating across 13 time zones, is a real pain sometimes!

Pictures and battle reports, therefore, will be a bit later in coming. We plan on play-testing out some of the scenarios and army lists via Vassal in the interim, at least until I'm settled at a base and he's back stateside so that we can lock in travel plans.

I'm glad you all share our excitement. We have been conferring at least once a week for quite some time, and have been refining what we've made thus far in the interim. We're looking forward to sharing our work.

Quick update for those who've subscribed and/or are anticipating more information:

Extrenm(54) and I have conferred regarding the campaign, and have decided to stick with the Codex lists. We're still going to have a small handful of Special Characters, but beyond that, we don't want to take too many liberties with the rules. We will probably put together a list of restrictions that one can superimpose on the codices to represent doctrinal and organizational particulars, but we've scrapped the army lists we were working on in favor of skipping over the extensive playtesting that would be required for the armies to be made balanced.

I might publish the AdMech list I was working on; I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, even if it won't be used.

Also, it will probably be a very (x2) long time before we are able to get battle reports and photos together. I'm about to PCS to Mississippi for a couple of years, and Extrenm(54) is in Japan for the next 12-15 months. We're going to do what we can via Vassal, but between now and then it looks like we'll be focusing our efforts on fluff development and a mission flow.

Sorry to those who were hoping this would get off the ground sooner. The campaign's not dead, but it is on hold for now. Extrenm(54) and I are going to follow through (we both enjoy this game too much to let this slide), but it will be a while before we're both able to coordinate time to get together and roll dice and get some photography work out of the way.

Let me know if I can answer any questions.
