So last night I actually killed stuff with my Gretchin for the first time, and actually killed a whole lot. Most of the time they just die as they're used for meat shields. So just wondering what's the most you guys have killed with a Gretchin squad in a game?

Well that's ten times better than mine. I'm assuming that they took down his last wound and not all of them, right? Or did they? O_o

See Marneus probably just junk punched an avatar to death and was busy dancing on its corpse so he didnt notice the gretchin coming in for the deathblow.

In a made up kill teams game we had, I spent a whole turn shooting at some Space Marines. All my Orks failed horribly, the grots all failed save for one. He hit unlike the rest of my army, and then killed the Space Marine. The Grot with the Golden Gun he was known from then on.

And Calgar? Really? Thats incredibly unlikely lol

I had a squad of 10 grots shoot then charge a unit of Terminators. Shooting killed one, somehow. When the Terminators were charged, their sergeant killed one. The Grots took their attacks, causing 6 wounds. My buddy failed 5 saves. He wasn't happy, but I was too busy cracking up to care.

After seeing people's kills I think I'm going to field Gretchin a lot more. There must be nothing more gratifying than taking down enemy Elites and HQ's with a unit that's only 3pts per model.

How does a S2 model wound a T6 model? The answer: It doesn't. Fine, the Runtherd might damage it, but I call BS.

You're assuming they charged it. What probably happened is they shot at it. Then it would be S3 shots against T6 which is still a 6+ to wound. So while it would be hard to do, it's still possible.

The first time I ever fielded Grots they took out 3 Gargoyles and 4 Genestealers in one round of CC, wiping out both units(3 and 4 being all that was left of them )...and not much else in the many years since then.

The most infamous Gretchin kill in our circle was way back in 2nd Ed. The last remaining Gretchin was all that stood between a squad of Terminators and the sacred hill of
Big Boss something-or-other (the sacred hill was actually a couple of VHS cases under the sheet but you get the idea!) Anyway it was the Gretchins move, he shoots, he hits, he wounds, all there was now was for the Terminator to fail his 3+save on 2D6! (Yes, you read that right!) and...........failed he did! Snake eyes for the Termytron!

That was most definitely the best Gretchin kill to date!

P.S I can't quite remember what the other 4 Terms did but I'm pretty sure they turned on their heals and ran for their petty lives with their tails between their legs! Well, probably!

Need more 's in my life!

Yep, it was hilarious lol, but in all fairness it was a fun match were i had attached grotsnik to them and given them cybork. between the cybork and FNP they were suprisingly durable. And he was on his last wound. He took out my nobz with a warboss and a dread, but I had managed to kill his bodyguards (can't remember the correct term) and get him down to 1 wound and the gretchen finished him off with shooting. We had a good laugh because this was after the scouts and terminators.

OK, THIS time I call BS! FNP doesn't protect from any of Marneus's attacks, neither ranged or melee!

The FnP possibly protected more against his bodyguard's attacks? Unless they too are power weapons.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah, as far as FNP goes, he never said they were durable against Marneus, just that they were durable enough to last until they took him out.

My first game in 2nd edition i managed to take out a combat squad. one guy left, and some lucky leadership rolls later, i was a happy grot-lover!
Idk, besides that i think the best i did was a death cult assassin. when i field grots they aren't as epic as I remember them being in the old days

It's still BS.

With a Toughness of 2, they get ID from STR 4 attacks, meaning FNP would work for STR 1-2-3 attack... and how many Marine weapons are under STR 4? That's right - none.

I suppose it's possible he didn't understand the FNP rules and played it wrong tho...

Well I wouldn't say none, but I do see your point. The only thing I coudl think of off the top of my head would be sniper rounds, since they don't actually have a STR, they just wound on a 4+.

Just to point out, just because in this thread are many funny stories of grots triumphing, doesnt mean they are actually that awesome. Yes with the random good dice rolls you can down a terminator, that doesnt mean grots ALWAYS take out terminators. Can someone math hammer how likely it IS for a grot to kill a terminator?

They are best used in small, objective holding groups, or as a long stretched out 4+ cover save for your army. Thats about it

Well I don't think that anyone is making that claim. Of course Gretchin aren't that great of a unit, but that's exactly why I made a thread about cool/lucky kills made with them. I mean the only reason I include a 10 man squad of them is so they can provide some meat shieldage for my Big Mek w/ SAG.
I actually tried using them against my friends Chaos list yesterday and it turned into an epic fail.
