Hi all! I'm a fairly new (8 months in) Warhammer 40k player. I play my friends often and go to The Battle Standard at the Manchester Mall to buy models, paint, and meet new people. Just out of curiosity, what kind of players do we have in the good state of CT? I'd love to play some people without driving 40 minutes every time I want a casual game. I started up with Chaos, but made a mistake because I looked at the old codex. I bought my models, but it was already too late. For Christmas I'm starting Tyranids, which are my true calling. How is our metagame? Are there any places that sponsor regular tournaments?

Where in CT do you live? The Battle Standard and The Time Machine in Manchester are the two largest gaming hubs in CT that I know of currently. Though they are too far for me to drive to regularly as well. I play at Clockwork Comics in Orange now. They host regular tournaments in a revolving schedule (warmachine, 40k and fantasy in a loop). The tournaments I've been to were never that large (on average probably about a dozen people). It's mostly an older crowd there. Also Gamingetc in Stratford just starting up a warhammer scene from what I hear and holds small points value tournaments. I don't play there, but I know some people on the board do so maybe they can chime in and say what it's like there. Hobbytown in Fairfield use to hold open gaming on Friday. I haven't been there in a while though so I don't know if they still do.

Noob here, just starting to put together a Tau army. Dont really know how to play tho. Any tips? Also is Manchester the closest place to play? Im in New Haven. And is there supposed to be a new codex coming out for Tau? Should I not be building an army as I wait for the new stuff?
Thanks

I live over in East Haven and the two places I usually play at are Clockwork Comics in Orange and Gaming Etc in Stratford.
Clockwork runs rotating escalation leagues between WH40K, WFB, and Warmachine. It can be a tough place to just show up to and get a game, but they have nice tables and good terrain. Call ahead to see if anyone is there looking for a game or bring a mate to play with.
Gaming Etc has monthly tournaments on (usually) the 3rd sunday of every month. Last tourney I think we had @28 people show up. Its a pretty relaxed atmosphere here and there is almost always someone around looking for a game so you have a better chance of just showing up and getting a game in. Always better to call ahead though so you don't end up wasting a trip. They also run a lot of CCG leagues and tournaments, so its also good to call and make sure no special card game events are going on, as sometimes they take the Warhammer space for the larger tournaments.
Both places have good and friendly folks. Id recommend either with no worries.
Their website is http://gamingetc.com/ unfortunately it doesn't tell much about their Warhammer stuff. Click on the events calendar and look at fridays, saturdays, and sundays for the info.

Anything more central? I live in central CT as well and it's been a hike to get to any stores in the past. Just got back into the hobby a few months ago, so just wondering if anything new has opened up...

I'd also suggest Gaming ETC. It's a great shop, nice people and good tournaments.
Even though I live about an hour away I still go there once a month for their tournies.

I'm in Trumbull. Mostly I'm into the painting but I came into a huge lot of 40k minis off ebay and I currently have around 2000pts of tyranids( mostly from battle for macragge set) Black templars, and tau painted up.I also have 2000ish point unpainted Chaos Space marine army and enough Space marines and vehicles for another entire army. Sadly I've never played a game and am a total beginner but I might be able to get two more buddies involved, one also in trumbull with a huge collection of tau that I'm trying to motivate him to paint, another in newtown that's more into d&d.
I think if I can get a few small games in to learn the rules I should be good. I wanted to go to the hobby night tonight but had to pass on it.

I've yet to play myself, although I'm currently painting up a Tau army (almost done with my 1st batch of firewarriors!)
If you can get some games in before I do, you can show me the ropes!

Beastofhamden, a good tool I used to learn is Vassal 40K, essentially 40K on the computer, play someone on there, read the rules, read your codex.
That is unless you have vets in your area, learning in person is just as good
Try and stop by Gaming ETC on the 22nd, they will be having their monthly tourny, I believe it will be 1,500 points.

Thanks man, i'll check it out. I'm trying to get a painted team set up with 500 points to start, so soon as i get there, i will try an in person visit. In the meantime, its paintpaintpaint and checking out Vassal 40k.

Central CT: I would go to Flagship Comics in Plainville
Northern: Time Machine
I usually go to Flagship, but they have a smaller array of units, but two good tables with terrian.
Time machine is a big drive for me...
