Ey everyone, how is going?

Well, i have one problem. I really, and i mean REALLY love to model and assemble my miniatures. I love to "steal" bits from the leftovers of my friends to make more unique orcs miniatures. I really do.

But them i REEEEALLY hate to paint my miniatures. Is a work that tire and bore me and isn't even rewarding, because after i finish painting them they look like adult entretaintment actors after a bukkake scene (i really hope kids don't understand thind).

So what do i do? my patners in the hobby paint their miniatures and doesnt look bad and always complain about why i always have my army grey.

Practice makes perfect! You can't expect to be an amazing painter overnight. Keep at it! Alternatively, you could always pay someone else to paint them for you.

Same boat as me. I love converting models, kitbashing things, and building bigger and bigger pieces of terrain... but hate painting. Hate it.

The fact that I'm not good at it makes it worse.

hmm, so your not very good at painting? I am surprised you dont take any joy away from painting....its something that you should be improving at everytime you paint, it just takes practice. For people that find painting difficult, I always recommend drybrushing, it is the easiest technique that can make anyone look like a pro painter. You can get lots of variation in your color tone fairly easy and it takes about 15 minutes per mini. If you just have no interest in painting, then I would suggest you find a cheap commission job. Ive seen some who paint for 3$ a character (basecolors, very little detail, but it doesnt seem like that will bother you). best of luck

I know how you feel Warnolo. It's great fun posing the model and giving it really cool gear, but painting can take an age.

Advice:

Less colours = less time painting. Pick a theme that will make painting faster. eg black armour and gunmetal weapons.
Won't look amazing but will do the job.

Don't try to paint everything in one go. Give yourself specific goals for a paint session. eg all the green bits. or red bits.

TAKE YOUR TIME. Rushing will just make you annoyed and your painting look worse.

The opposite for me. I love painting, but cleaning mould lines, glueing and such is sooo boring... maybe because I tend to waste a lot of time eliminating all the mould lines.

Find a friend who feels like Arsoketa, then you build her/his models and she/he paints yours.

At least that's the theory. I'm quite like you, but I've so far failed to find someone to swap services with, so I paint a little now and then and play with half my army in only basecoat.

Painting is a skill, not a talent. Meaning you can't get better at it just because genetics said so, and you need practice. Good thing is, it means everyone can learn how to be a good painter.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

eBay sometimes has good deals on tabletop quality miniatures. There's a couple store specifically that I go to for unpainted stuff, sometimes it is primed and on occasion I pick up a couple that are already done. Bottom line is if you don't like painting but want painted miniatures, pay someone to paint yours for you or buy them already painted by someone else. It may not be as expensive as you may think, either.

these are my sentiments exactly! the only time its fun is when your kit bashing something or putting it together for the first time....still doesnt make mold lines fun though. At the very least, the molds from GW are improving over the years and have less and less to clean. i do all this type of modeling at work, that way I can focus on painting when i get home!

Ever seen a product called Quickshade from Army Painter? All you need to do is base coat the model, throw on some quick shade and you'll be table top quality in no time. I've got about 100 guard to do and it'll take me a weekend to get them all ready to game with

I used to have the same problem. I bought 2 SM battleforces, Sanguinary Guard, Memphiston and Astorath. Amongst other things, I had a Land Raider, a Baal Predator and other transports. They had been stuck together for ages, since the BA re release. Only recently have I started painting them (got sick of them in just basecoat) and I must say even though the first 3 squads were quite rough, all the others look great. Just going over what was not great on the first ones. Altogether, its taken about 4 months for 2 hours a day.

The fact is, even though we don't like it you should paint them up. Practice makes perfect

Alright, we'll call it a draw

What he said. Dipping is really the way forward (unless like me you are a perfectionist).

If your friends don't like assembly and conversion, you may be able to trade off and get them to paint some of your minis if you build things for them.

Either go to a Painting Service - which can be expensive - or just stick at it and use simple Paint Schemes. Consider using a Spray for your Basecoat Colour, rather than applying by Brush over a Primer. If you want a Highlighted Look, but hate the time Hard-Edge Highlighting takes, then use a lighter Spray to dust down from above; this is called Zenital Highlighting.

Other than that, I don't know what so say! I'm not a great fan of painting either.

The rarefied atmosphere

Finding an easy scheme to do is important and then getting a technique down too.

These guys here

Were a doddle once I found the method

ultramarine blue

2 coats of asurman blue wash (shake the bottle)

a mix of codex grey and black for basic and subtle armour highlights

2 coats of orange for the helmet

*your flesh technique goes here*

and I was able bang them out with speed.

I can't paint unless I'm with a group of people such as at a store with game tables set up. I don't know why but I need the social context in order to be able to paint. If I'm stuck in my apartment for some reason then painting never gets done.

My advice would be to get a bunch of simple green and practice on one mini....over and over. Use a simple paint scheme and don't go bonkers trying to highlight every detail. The most important thing to keep in mind for a "table top" paintjob is contrast. At 36 inches and in a large formation, color contrast is probably more important than making it look like a GD winner.

But yeah, practice makes perfect. I don't really like painting em myself.
