Pretty sure you saw it in the GW newspost.

I can understand why Jes doesn't want any images out there until he personally reveals them. If I spent that much time working on an entire range of minis that people are eagerly awaiting, I'd want all the fun for myself. From a personal standpoint it makes perfect sense. From a business standpoint? Ehhhh it's GW.

BrassScorpion wrote:As for some of the lore from which Eldar and Dark Eldar are derived: Far-Sídhe, male elf, Ban-Sídhe, female elf. In later times Ban-Sídhe got corrupted to Banshee and spirit lore from its original elf related meanings. Sídhe is pronounced, "shee". Some ancient people of the Isles, not knowing from whence the even more ancient burial mounds originated, believed them to have elves (Sídhe) living in them, also known as "fairy mounds", the Sídhe having been the mythological inhabitants of the British Isles before Celts migrated there from the Iberian peninsula. They also believed most of the Sídhe were gone because they had sailed west to parts unknown. Sound familiar? Tolkien based much of his Elf lore on the ancient Celtic mythology and so did GW. Methinks Far-Sídhe (Farshee) was the inspiration for the Eldar "Farseer" title too.

I want to also interject that the idea of the "elves" and "dark elves" have roots in Northern Germanic lore, as well. The vikings and such had their "Alfar" and "Svartalfar." The word "elf" is derivative of "alfar." The correct spelling of "alfar" should be more like "aelfar," as there is a letter that no longer exists called the "ash" that appeared as a combination of "a" and "e" in the Roman alphabet. It is pronounced like the "a" in "ash." Over time, the letter's pronunciation in "alfar" softened to the "e" sound in "get," and the ending was dropped entirely as most inflectional endings were dropped in the English language. This Nordic heritage also brings us "dwarves" from the "dvergar."

Would have thought elves more Germanic than Celtic
Though some similarities between the cultures exist.
As I mentioned earlier the Saxons referred to Elves. And given that Tolkein afaik based much of his studies in Saxon rather than Celtic literature...
