I find myself liking that model a lot more in Januine-style than in the rather garish GW studio scheme, splendid stuff!

Looks awesome, Jan! Love your metals. I cannot wait to see that Skitarii riding shotgun get the same treatment :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Thx folks. Really really wasn't liking the stock AdMech schemes - all too bright and meh......didnt fit in with my idea of what the cogboys & co were like so made my own that fitted how I'd imagined them. The metals are several differnet layers of drybrushed metallics over a black basecoat; warplock bronze followed by ghenna's gold and then runefang steel followed by a nuln wash. Give a deeper more varied and aged look to the metals as different tones shine through rather than the usual flat look from leadbelcher + wash.......I think ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

THIS is better!

Stepped back from the Kats for a mo to get the Alpha some paint. He'll be riding on the back of the lead Kat. As he's an alpha, I inverted the usual colour scheme to blue on the outside with a dark grey lining. Blue is still a touch bright but it'll tone down after shading a glaze.

Hahaha - tidy! Nice one LeC!
Do live this skit figs. Only little problem has been putting a magnet in his feet so he'll attach to both his base and to the back of the Kat. Skit feet are kinda ......dainty and just too thin and small to fit even a 3mm magnet into. Drilled two holes into the soles of his feet though and put metal rod (aka a paperclip!!!) in. It's not the strongest maglock at all but it'll do.

Great idea to make him multi use. Can't be worse than the fine cast tomb king I did so he could go into his chariot or on a base.....that was horrible.

Extra two days off this week due to the entrance tests. I love exams was hoping to get a mountain of painting done but spent most of yesterday building a squad of skits. Gorgeous figs but fiddly little fethers take an age to put together and smooth out
Have managed to get all the blues done on the ranger alpha and the remaining to Kats. Jumped ahead a little and did the alpha's trim, squad designation and forgeworld marking on his cloak though. Onto the greys of the Kats next

You did the white trim so well, mate. I'm embarrassed to say mine came out horribly! You must have a very steady hand. Loving the blue.

I'm going to try following your recipe for metal next time too.

I cheated a little with the trim. Chopped up a few of the cog line transfers and put them on in pieces so as to try and follow the uneven hem of the robe. then filled in the blanks with some white scar. The forgeworld symbol is half a cog transfer, half an alpha designation number and then the rest of the symbol painted in in white scar. All comes together fairly well
Aye - give the metals a go. It takes abit of time but I prefer the worn and old metal effect that comes with it. Has a bit more depth than just leadbelcher/nuln oil.

Alpha is pretty much done. So many tiny little details and he's just a troop choice. Love it!! Next back to the Kats

The Alpha is absolutely amazing. Love the colour choice as well. Nice to see something other than red works really well. Is he going to get a squad to lead at some point?

Cheers lads. I've built the Alpha's squad (feth those wee buggers take a while to build) and I'll get them painted up.......soonish. The squad will have grey claoks with the blue on the inside. I reversed it for the Alpha......need to give him a name too at some point I guess. I want to get the Kats finished up this week (to go with the Alpha for Para's monthly comp) and then the skit squad done and the knight finished before Christmas as the mother is coming over here for Christmas adn bringing a lovely FW haul with her that I ordered a wee while back

Lovely stuff! Once again, your metallic work is superlative!

Going to have to work up the confidence to have a go at both yours and Nerdfest's metallic methods at some point, and see if I can take a break from NMM and get actual metals looking decent... just need to find a suitable mini...

I know I request these far too often from you, but any chance you could do a quick step-by-step on how you do metals at some point? You've explained it a few times, but I always get stuff better when I can actually see the steps involved.
