Something I've noticed while using this site... virtually every thread in the rumours forum is a company advertising new releases and a large number elsewhere deviate off topic and result in a company pimping their banner to draw sales to their site.
As a reader this is very offputting.

What else were you expecting? It's a news forum for miniatures. Most of the news in the miniatures world is about what models are being released. Would it make you feel better if someone other than the companies producing the minis reported new releases? I mean, if it wasn't for new releases, all the forum would be is people asking "when are new codex out, herp derp"

Sure, it wouldn't mean I'd have to syphon through people trying to sell giant sword wielding badgers.. which frankly are awful. The forum is a giant catalogue.
Plus the rumours title in the forum would become more prevailant. Don't get me wrong, new releases from mainstream systems are always welcome and report worthy. Some tinpot company knocking up awful sculpts with a chisel and sledgehammer dilutes the forum.

We think it works pretty well and crack down on advertisers who start multiple threads instead of just appending old ones. A good chunk of us in the mod team have seen a lot of cool models that we would not have otherwise known about, and with the ever tightening grip GW have on rumours, there is often very little we can report without giving away our sources that doesnt get posted everywhere online at once anyway. Certainly some junk gets posted but on the whole it is quite a unique, distinct forum that provides a lot of use that is not replicated on many other sites and we are quite fond of it.
Are you going to be at the UM movie this weekend? Would be good to catch up if you are as I will be there.

If all you're looking for in N&R is the next Space Marine release, I think you'd be better of subscribing to GW's newsletter.

I'm not too sure yet mate, I watched the movie a few weeks back (highly recommend it btw) so depending on the other plans I might not be able to go.
It'd be great to get there though, David from B&C and the admin of 40kforums are due to get there too so 4 forum administrators in the one room would be pretty unprecedented
I certainly want to attend, see if we can recreate the scene from Anchorman.
Jezlad: Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.
Brother Argos: It jumped up a notch.
Jezlad: It did, didn't it?
Legoburner: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.
Jezlad: I saw that. Legoburner killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?
Legoburner: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Jezlad: Legoburner, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

Would be cool, Dave and I have met a few times now and it is always great to chinwag about server details and site structures with the few who have a perfect understanding of all the issues faced with serving the wargaming community. I'd say so many of us in one place would maybe incur some freebies from GW too but we have tertiary intelligence that forums were listed as one of their big problems in a recent discussion so I dont think that is too likely
And sir, you disrespect yourself for your lack of recognition of Summer Glau. I sentence you to firefly re-education camp immediately. Dreadnote's not that far off the current output of GW's model related rumours anyway!

Ah yeah I see it now. I'm actually ready to sit through it again with my brother who hasn't seen it yet.
I'm still mourning the end of Sarah Connor Chronicles - it got stick but had it's up points! I watched both seasons back to back over a 4 day period at work... not one of her better photos though.
It's interesting what you say about GW and forums. I knew they were getting pissed at BoLS from a seminar a year or so back but wasn't aware forums were becoming problematic in their eyes.

The Sarah Connor chronicles was a good series. Far too many pointless episodes that did nothing to advance the plot though.
And all the forum administrators meeting up? Sounds like some kind of offshoot of the Bilderberg Society to me...

Now there's really no call for language like that over a difference of opinion.

Seeing as this comment is over the line with regards to the behaviour we expect between posters, let's hope people do learn from polite warnings eh

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

S'alright
if the companies didn't, then Kroothawk et al would keep us posted anyways
TBH it works fine on the whole.
What I don't like are the more cynical threads: hey guys a super new cool games system Chibiworld is just fantastic brilliant breathtaking and new! bleh!
Thankfully they seem to get swiftly stomped on.
The guys doing a grand job providing interesting models and terrain, often small companies, telling us politely and humbly of the existence of their wares is wanted and valued imho.

How can we not get you wrong when you are so...
wrong.
Today downloaded a rules system for play testing from some tinpot because it looks like a good idea, alot of fun and a tad different from the mainstream.
The tinpots of which you deride add to the vitality and diversity of this site with a good deal of grace and creativity.
You may not like Cyperian's work but there was no need to decry it in such a manner. Personally I think it rather good and only a lack of funds has stopped me getting some of his minis.
It has been enjoyable to see his work on Dakka and frankly better than not knowing about, as would be the case it if certain tinpot dictators had their way.
(and I don't mean Kim Jong-il)

Tell you what really feths me off, other forums coming round here touting their wares... I mean that really is in poor taste.

Or those pointless bloody 'adoptables' that clutter up the site and fill enormous sigs with drivel. Drives me nuts.

I mean, how dare some indy company come here and make the intended market aware of their product, the bloody nerve of it! When will this madness end!
