Hello all.

Sometime near the turn of the century i was quite into warhammer 40000 and in a few years I had amassed two armies; one of Orks, and one of Blood Angels Space Marines, with a few chaos and other oddities inbetween.

Now, i never quite got the dream army i wanted.. All these conversions I saw seemed like the acts of gods, and how did they paint them so well? I thought I couldn't paint like that.. I didn't lack experience, but i did lack certain knowlege.
I *started* to paint a bit better, and convert models, twisting their arms and legs to face different directions, but this became more difficult as the metal used in newer models was brittle, and paint didn't really adhere well, never in all the wee holes... And my blood angels looked so cheap, my orks okay.

Sometime inbetween then and now i craved Lord of the rings models, built myself a khazad dum and a minas tirith, and had a fellowship, balrog etc to paint.
These needed to be done right.. I started collecting white dwarf and reading how to paint articles, skipping the basic ones and using the "masterclass" ones such as "how to paint elrond" guides to paint every individual elf etc etc.

My painting skills improved, and i started using green stuff as i needed some to make the balrog, and then used the extra to make conversions to plastic urk hai so i wouldn't have to pay £5 just to have ones with crossbows etc. My greenstuff skills improved also.

Inbetween then and now i have only worked on a few large model projects over a long time (busy with uni), including painting gundams using drybrushing techniques (takes a long time and a lot of paint!) and building my own monstery things out of greenstuff.

It only hit me the other week, that i can now have my dream armies.. I can take simple models and change them as i choose, to a decent enough degree that i'll (hopefully) be forever happy with them, and then paint them nice and cool.

So.. what am i waiting for?

I have performed a wee bit of research on painting my models before starting off, and i kept ending up back here at this forum, so clearly its the place to be, learn, and share ideas and photos!

Looking forward to seeing more of others armies and also sharing my own

~Tony

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.
corpsesarefun: Thank god I missed be nice to shrike day.
greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid.
