I've played 2 games today - multiplayer - 2x 1000pts each. 6x4 table.

First game took from 5 hours, 2nd took 4

To me this is not normal. It's difficult for me when we take bout 20-30 mins to make our moves and consistently my opponents take a LOT longer. Granted they've not been playing as long but it's frustrating when there is a 2 minute team discussion about where to DS a couple of units that really don't make that much difference. Essentially I've spend 12 hours away from home and played 2 games. Whereas that long should be 3 or 4 games... I realise multiplayer takes longer and it *is* fun. But I'm a bit frustrated essentially 'waiting' to have my go for about twice as long as I'm taking to make mine..

Thoughts, ideas?

I played a 1000 point game today in an hour. However, it was really one sided and I was completely thwomped. I'd say about 45 minutes per thousand points per side. IE 1000 points in an hour and a half, 2000 points in about 3 hours, etc. Of course having horde armies, inexperienced players, rules disputes and lunch breaks can lengthen the gametime.

Last Saturday we had our team's annual invitational club tournament. We run 1k so we can get in more games and people can play each other. We had six people this year who could make it, so we all got to play everyone. Between 10am and around 6-6:30pm we played five games; and that's with a lunch break. Each game ran between an hour and an hour and a half.

Of course, we're all quite experienced, and no one was running horde. I played a practice game the week before with one of those guys running his Ork list, and it took at least 90min; maybe closer to two hours.

IME two players who know their armies can play any game up to ~2kpts in two hours, though if there's a horde involved he has to make a conscious effort to play fast. Every 'Ard Boyz game (2500pts) I've had where we had an 2.5hrs has been in under time, though I think they gave us 3hrs in the final this year, which was nice.

5th edition deployment has sped things up a bit, especially, as alternating deployment in 3rd and 4th editions could easily be a 10-20min sub-game.

Back in 3rd/4th edition my friend and I could play a 1500pt game in about an hour, maybe an hour and a half. However, we both played regularly (usually 1-2 days a week, 3-4 games each day), and we both knew the rules and not only our own, but each others armies inside and out. New additions didn't take long to get used to.

I find that it usually takes 1.25 hr/1,000 points for non competitive play in a 1v1. Most games I play are 1850 - 2k and take 2-2.5 hours.

I commonly play 2v2 battles at 1000 and 1500 points per player, and they usually take 3.5 hours. But all of the players have been playing for at least a year, and my IG are relatively light on infantry.

My 1850 all infantry guard list (138 models) generally takes 10-15 minutes to set up(less 5 minutes if I take every thing out of the box and get my units in order before deployment).

My movement phase is often less than 5 minutes.

Shooting takes 15 minutes.

Assault depends on if my opponent has hit my lines yet or not; and varies greatly.

Total game time is usually between 1.5-2.5 hours.

Same for my 1850 Mixed Orks.

My 1850 marine('nilla and SW) lists only take an hour or so

All that is against my most Common opponents; At local tourneys we often finish with about 10 minutes left in allotted time, unless I get paired with much better or much worse opponents; then someone is tabled by turn 4; and we are the first done.

It depends on the type of game playing your doing, IE Tournament play or Casual play. everyone that played in Tournament knowns that there is a time limit of 2 1/2 for a 2000 points games. Sometime Casual play can last as much of 3-4 hours, if ya'lls are shooting the breeze

Generally, 45 minutes per 500 points per person is a good indicator of how long it should take.

One thing that impacts this is how focused you are on the game. I've had some nights where we were drinking and .... smoking and it took 4 hours for a 1.5k game. Or at the local GW sometimes my opponent will get distracted and talk on the phone or to another player - which I find somewhat annoying and rude but I can be patient if I'm not in a rush.

At the tourny level a 1.5k game should take about 1.5 hours - 2 hours max. Everyone should be focusing and keeping the game moving.

1500 points for us usually takes somewhere around 2-3 hours. However we always play Annhilation and our unit choices are chosen for their survivability and damage dealing, so it's not exactly the best of indicators.

A good general time table for players who know how to play is every 500 points = 30 minutes, not including setup and pack up of models and terrain.

I'm still learning and trying to teach my son at the same time and things I am not sure on keep poking their ugly head up, so I have to keep consulting the codex or BRB. I'm also trying to get him into the swing of things by getting him to work out what he needs to roll to wound, what the strength of a Deathspitter etc so he can go off and play games on his own. We're playing 1500 points at the moment.

So at this moment in time a game takes about 3 hours +, we had a to stop one at the weekend in turn 3 as the time was getting on we were getting hungry

I've played Filbert on here twice now and we're at about the same level and those games took us a couple of hours each, so far we've been playing at 2000 points.

On consideration I think that this is the issue. There's 2 people going 'if I do x then you do y...' 'No No! Y needs to do z, then you do q...', 'but if that happens to z what happens to g?...'

Banter adds to it... but I wonder what methods could be used to speed up such games.

Also there were no horde armies. Another difficulty is when one player is hyper defensive "but my things will get killed"...

it may be hard to agree on this but here's my two cents on 2v2 speed-ups

No banter. Make it a rule that you can't discuss tactics. Each player has to do his own thing. It will make the two armies act as they should realistically.. as separate entities run by separate generals. If you cut the crap your games will take way less time.

Make it your point that this game needs to run fast since there are 4 people involved. If you still find yourself annoyed by the slow pace then only do 1 on 1. i know what it's like to only get in one game or so and be stuck in the FLGS with a bunch of people taking their bloody time.

You guys play fast. 1500 point games usually last a minimum of 2 hours here, and that would be an utter curbstomp.

Also it depends on the army if you have a 1500 point limit (usual benchmark)

A Deathwing army with termys will take very little time to finish their turns.

A Tyranid Gaunt Army could have 180 models in it. That would take alot more shuffling around.

Some people are just slow. It can be frustrating but not sure what you can do...

I find it helps to hum the lone ranger theme tune when i think they should speed up

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.
