What's the best cure for post-holiday blues?

Crushing your enemies and driving them before you of course!

Back for a 2nd SPINE TINGLING year, it's Cabin Fever 2011!

Our main tournament is the Adventurer's Guild GT; 1850 pts of bolter blastin', warp wranglin', splinter shootin' mayhem.

We've also got several events for people who DON'T play 40K (gasp!):

  • Winter Fouling Formal 2011 Blood Bowl Tournament

  • Flames of War 'Early War' tournament with prize support by Tom Wise

  • Warmachine/Hordes 35pt Steamroller tournament

  • 40k Apocalypse or Kill Team Open Gaming (still hammering this one out.. maybe we'll do both!)

  • Please drop by the website: www.marauder-industries.com for details of the events as well as news and updates.

    See you in January!

    Hey Jamie...

Count me in. I'm not sure what I want to play yet though.

The Adventurer's Guild always puts on a great tournament. (but the subjective scoring is a bit much though).

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

I really was disappointed to miss the last tourney. I WILL be there for this one! Just have to figure out whether to dust off the 40K, or bring the lads out of retirement and back onto the pitch for some Blood Bowl! Choices, choices.

Hey Olympia, could you be a little more specific please? What do you mean by subjective scoring?

Big enough to have a fall down template. Yup, that's me!

Full scoring/rules will be up soon on the website. I think Olympia may be referring to the oft divisive 'soft scores': painting, the quiz, sportsmanship, etc...

I'm not familiar enough with the 40k tournament circuit to know if the Adventurer's Guild system puts too much weight on the 'soft scores', but I DO know that they are continuously reviewed, evaluated, and weighed against the player's feedback.

As for what to play, you really can't go wrong:

The 40k tournament will have the Adventurer's Guild usual high standard of prize support, quality scenarios, and enforced fun!

I'll be running the Winter Fouling Formal, with all the great prizes, general goofiness, and luchadore mask mayhem everyone has come to expect from the AGBBL!

The Flames of War tournament will be run by FOW Big Man Tom Wise; he will also be providing the awesome prizes his events are known for!

The Warmachine tournament will be run by The Guilds' own Jeff 'Erion" Hoffman... tables and terrain are being assembled at a feverish pace, fiendish scenarios are being concocted, and fabulous glittering prizes are being gathered!

    How could you miss this?

Do I need more exclamation points?

How many players did you have at your last GT?

Last year we had 26... typically we will run 24-30 for tournaments.

We are doing quite a bit more promotion this year than we have in the past, we have 50 spots available which we'd LOVE to hit.

I'll be there! Finished second last year after getting carpetbombed by Rob Baer's leafblower in game 5. It'll be Tyranids again for me this year, but a very different build...

Ah, if only I had my army complete and was still on winter break at that time. Unfortunately college is in Philly, so driving the two hours back to Harrisburg is a bit unfeasible =/

Thanks for the info. If you're taking preregistrations / money, could you announce when you hit 40 paid players? I'm guarding my travel schedule more carefully this year and hoping to make sure the GTs I attend are around at least 50 players. This last year, I drove 11 hours to a 40 person event that had 12 people show up.

I'll make sure to put up a post when we get close to the 40 player mark... I can definitely understand your thinking, our local Blood Bowl tournament group has been to several events where we just ended up playing each other. We've still had fun, but a bit frustrating.

are the missions basically all VP based? I just read the rules packet

Yes, missions are VP based... note that VPs are awarded per scenario conditions as well as blowing stuff up.

How soft score intensive are we talking about, as that will determine my attendance.

    according to their downloadable packet....

    Scoring for the Tournament
This tournament will score you in several categories:
Battle Points (Victory on the table) 30-100 points possible
Sportsmanship (Victory on and off the table) 0 – 50 points possible
Appearance (Great looking army) 0 – 40 points possible
Knowledge (Knowing your rules) 0 – 15 points possible
Weekender (Bonus points) 0 – 15 points possible
Maximum tournament points: 220 possible points to be scored.

so more soft scores than hard scores

I'm a little weary as It's right after the conflict GT and very soft oriented with only VPs...

Just because I'm curious, and because I'm not terribly familiar with the tournament 40k circuit (I'm the Blood Bowl guy and promotions guy)

What makes this 'very soft oriented'?

Is the general trend to only count Battle Points?

Hmm, I might need to take a look at this. Will know better my plans next month and schedule, but definetly not that long of a drive for me. Would prob come out with my Necrons.

i said it was soft oriented by the fact you can earn more points total outside of winning than by you can by winning.

The VP spread thing ALSO makes the event softer since the spread set up means those soft points are MORE valuable now since one tough game vs a very strong opponent can bump you out of winning overall even if you win every game and have the best BP score when a really good painter who buys everyone beer plays

Its just a preference of mine for BPs to be more than the soft side... but yea, I most likely won't make it since the conflict is the weekend before and I'll be going to that.

I think I'm going to have to pass on this, I'm not a big fan of Soft Score tournements, I'd rather have the preformance of my army be the determining factor in my standing. I do however wish you guys the best of luck and a hopefully large turnout!
