Title says it all. Im really confused about this, cause theres pics of tac squads with that combo, and i do know about assault squads without jump packs.

Nope, they cannot.

I wish they could though!

No. Where are there pics of such squads? It may be that you're thinking of Blood Angel Assault Squads which are Troops choices and can be taken without Jump Packs.

I had an opponent try to use a Tactical squad with BP+CCW at a tournament once (the TO must've missed it when checking the list). I told him that he couldn't do that, he flipped open his book and showed me the line...for Sergeants. He looked at it again sheepishly and agreed to count them as bolters instead

Maybe you were thinking of Space Wolves or Black Templars?

Their Tac Squad equivalents can take BP/CCWs....

Go with what Fxeni cited: Simply field SWs, BAs or ChaosSM if you want a more assaulty SM list.

You could do it in the last codex, maybe that's where some of the confusion comes from.

Diorama =/= Valid codex selections or proper FOC allocations!

I had the same reaction the OP did at first, but figured for the rule's sake that it's what's left of an assault squad and a tactical squad.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Yeah SW and BT can do this.

Intrestingly, CSM have boltguns AND BP + CCW. Sometimes it's good to be bad!

The guys with the BP and CCW have both hands red... which for Crimson Fists (IIRC) denotes Veterans. Regular Tactical marines only have the left hand red.

Yea play chaos, get better troops. I mean why settle for less when you can have marines with bolters, bolt pistols and CCW? And a mark of some kind. And leadership 10.

Chaos is recruiting after all.

Or play SWs who also have BP+CCW + Bolter and are generally speaking the most competitive codex around rather than the limited outdated Chaos. Heck most chaos players I know are using the SW codex now...

Regular Tactical Squads are equipped with Bolguns and Bolt Pistols but all this means is an additional attack in CC

Having just a bolt pistol does not grant an extra attack in close combat. You need two close combat weapons (or pistols) in order to gain that. That's the whole point of the BP/CCW combo on Assault Squads.

I'm pretty sure they have everything. Just like stormtroopers in the IG list and chaos marines. So you can model them how you wish.

Regular Tac marines do not have CCW so no extra attack. BT as said above have the choice to have bolter or bp/ccw in any mix they want within the squad...and you can attach "scouts" to the squad for a total of 20 models...and they are fearless in CC. Not that I'm pimping BT at all.

You don't have to 'start over'.

That's what 'counts-as is all about. The colour of your marines does not denote which codex they should use. The codex YOU choose for them is the codex you use for them (but you are stuck with using only options from THAT codex).

You can have marines painted up as Black legion use the Space Wolves codex * . They will have the same (more or less) equipment, and although they lose access to defilers, their dreadnoughts become better, they gain the other "newer" SM tech, and the ability to take characters that make them relentless, etc.

*or blood angles. Yes, I MEANT to spell it that way. I'm sooooo not a fan of them. I hated them in the early 90s when they had to share a codex with DA, and still do.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
