Had some questions. Some are direct fluff questions not related to Stargate, others are questions about your opinion relating to the stargate universe.

1. Do Space marines/ Imperial navy battlebarges/destroyers have shields(star trek style shields)?

2. Do you think space marines armor take hits from Goa'uld staff weapons with ease?

3. Do you think the Goa'uld Zatnikitels (Zat guns) could hurt/kill a space marine in power or terminator armor? Ignore the third shot = disentegration for now please.

4. Would replicators pose a significant threat to a fleet of mixed SM and Imperial Navy ships?

5. Assuming the SM/IG are cut off from reinforcements and re-armaments, is there any race in the stargate universe you think could truly pose a threat to a mixed SM/IG fleet/army?

6. DO Space marines HAVE to have servitors to maintain there armor? Or can it function for years on end without maintenance, assuming it suffers no great damage?

1)They have void shields, i don't know if they work in the same way but they seem to have a similar effect.
2)I don't know what that is.
3)I don't know what they are.
4)Possibly not since if they infected 1 ship the IoM would just destroy it. Although the AdMech would want to get their hands on some so they might survive to pose a threat later on.
5)I do't know what kind of super weapons they have or weapons but i would say yes.
6)If the armour doesn't take any significant damage then it will last or centuries.

I hesitate in posting a reply, as I feel this could possibly end up being a long thread.

I find it difficult to compare Stargate with Warhammer40k. To my knowledge, there isn't a lot of tactical and fluff related information in Stargate compared to WH40k.

1.) purplefood answered it
2.) I don't know what sort of energy is fired, or if it is compareable to IG lasguns. In stargate, is there any armour that can withstand a staff shot?
3.)are the zat guns the folding ones? I don't remember the names of the weapons, just their looks.
4.) I missed so many episodes.... I don't know how replicators work, I know they could possibly be the equivalent of necrons, except the copy things. I don't know how that process works. I'm sure the Admech would be interested in such tech.
5.) Maybe those vampire things? Or the Ori.... as they have the assistance of acended beings, essentailly demi-gods. Though if Chaos were involved, I doubt they would have this advantage for long. I don't know, but the just the vast amount of troops the IG can weild would be quite devestating.
6.) SM are capable of maintaining their own armour. Nightlords only have one servant each (according to night haunter) and they are quite capable of maintaining their master's armour. Also, in Salamander, the armour can survive millenia, as long as they don't see much action or in the case of this novel are stored as the users had perished over the years (from the great crusade [or heresy] till the 41st century)

1. Do Space marines/ Imperial navy battlebarges/destroyers have shields(star trek style shields)?

Yes. Even the smaller escorts have shields.

2. Do you think space marines armor take hits from Goa'uld staff weapons with ease?

Yep. Remember, in s3-4 that the SGC managed to cook up trauma plates that could be inserted into a standard ballistic vest that allowed SGC personnel to actually be able to take a staff blast and survive without immediate medical attention.

3. Do you think the Goa'uld Zatnikitels (Zat guns) could hurt/kill a space marine in power or terminator armor? Ignore the third shot = disentegration for now please.

Nope. Zats are, for all intents and purposes, tasers that require no grounding wire and seem to utilize an energy pulse to fire off all the nerves at once. Astartes Power Armor and Terminator Armor is hardened against EMP, so it's like spitting water at a lake.

4. Would Replicators pose a significant threat to a fleet of mixed SM and Imperial Navy ships?

Hrmh. This is one that would probably be situational.
If the ships were really close to each other, and unaware of the Replicators aboard...yeah. And not just because they'd start tearing the ships apart.

Remember that Replicators can make copies utilizing...well, anything. Human material, Jaffa material, cowcrap. Whatever.

5. Assuming the SM/IG are cut off from reinforcements and re-armaments, is there any race in the stargate universe you think could truly pose a threat to a mixed SM/IG fleet/army?

Are we talking strictly ground based combat or like Jaffa/SGC with full air and tactical/logistical support?
Because in that case, you're boned no matter how hard you are. It's just a matter of time.

6. DO Space marines HAVE to have servitors to maintain their armor? Or can it function for years on end without maintenance, assuming it suffers no great damage?

Nope. Because they learn how to maintain their own armor early on, they just don't do it without the supervision of a Techmarine. And if it suffers great damage or needs refitting...then the Techmarines do that too.

Well, the first three have basically been answered. As far as replicators, if they took over at least one IoM ship, they would be ridiculously dangerous, let alone if they got onto a forgeworld or something.
They were shown as being able to enhance Asgard technology to the point where it could whup ass on it's creators (who were capable of intergalactic travel as well as many other pretty awesome technologies the IoM lacks), and as they are purely synthetic, even if they couldn't utilize warp travel, they could simply spread on ships carrying them and/or by sub lightspeed travel.

As for the fifth question, the Ancients, at the height of their power could have made a mockery of the IoM, but their culture was obviously incapable of a protracted, long term war, and could have fallen prey to the IoM using the same tactics as the Wraith. The Asurans, combining the technology of the Ancients with the greatest abilities of the replicators, and their relentless aggression would make quite an enemy. Out of all the races in stargate, I think the Ori would be the greatest threat.
They had a galaxy united in zealous worship, just like the IoM, however they were guided by ascended who could interact with them and the universe at large, showed adaptability, innovation, and insanely advanced technology.

is what I feared.

I don't know who the Asurans are, could you post a link to some site where I can find them?

Not quite. The ancients of the Pegasus galaxy were advanced humans who created the "Asurans" in their own image as a weapon to fight the wraith. The Asurans were made out of nanite cells (visible only under a powerful microscope). They pretty much carried on in the ancients footsteps as far as technology, only replicating themselves while using normal construction methods to create their civilisation - cities, ships etc.
A scientist in the Milky Way galaxy created a human looking robot that also used nanite cells in its construction. The robot later went on to create the replicators as toys, forming them out of much larger blocks that are visible to the naked eye. It's possible that the scientist was an ancient as the technologies seem quite similar, especially as the replicators later evolve to produce human form replicators that are very similar if not the same as the Asurans.

Stargate like many sci-fi shows is a bit inconsistent in the way its technology works. The three zaps and you're vaporized bit for the zat guns was rightly written out, but the staff weapons never seem to be consistent with the damage they cause. One is used at the start of the series to blast a hole in a wall, another is used towards the end of the series to blast a hole through a stone cover. Throughout the series though stone outcrops and the like constantly provide cover against such weapons. The effect of the zat guns is likewise inconsistent, sometimes they cause extreme pain (as was described at the start of the series), sometimes they knock the person out, other times they act like an unpleasant though not severe electric shock.
The same with the armour, Jaffa armour at the beginning had reasonable protection against small arms fire, within a few seasons though they were falling like flies whenever someone pointed a gun at them.

I can only conclude that SG-1 had one or more ascended beings on their side guiding them along and protecting them.
If an Imperial fleet did show up to cause grief, Astartes or not, SG-1 would defeat them with no casualties to themselves though some allied Jaffa and Tok'Ra would likely perish in whatever fighting took place.

I find it hard to believe that they would sustain no casualties. everyone sustain's casualties, either by accident or pure dumb luck.

But are we talking about space or on land. Space I can understand a little more, but I'd be still sceptical. Land... it's a flat out no...

If your gun doesn't work against their armour then you aren't gonna do much damage. I'm not sure but if they have some kind of anti-tank weapon then they could use that but it would be overkill somewhat.

Not true. The Ancients created what became the Asurans, but they did not create them "in their image". The Nanites gained self-awareness and assumed the form of the only life that they knew: the Ancients.

It's been implied that the scientist who was experimenting and created what became the Replicators had found a dormant Asuran broken down into its component elements.

Zats have been pretty consistent actually. One shot stuns temporarily, two shots kills, three shots disintegrates. They never really wrote that out either. Where it gets weird is how the Zats interact with the different races. Particularly old Goa'uld were able to shrug off the effects by dint of bruteforcing their host's nervous system and pushing on.

The same with the armour, Jaffa armour at the beginning had reasonable protection against small arms fire, within a few seasons though they were falling like flies whenever someone pointed a gun at them.

That was because the SGC changed weaponry. The MP5 had little to no penetrative power, so they swapped to the P90.

I don't feel that the conventional human weapons such as the P90 would be very effective versus Power Armor. I would equate Staff Weapons to a Hotshot Lasgun.

No, I don;t think they are that powerful. The SGC made vests that protect against the heat part at least. If relatively primitive SGC can pull that off I doubt it's equivalent to a round that will punch through power armor.

The Imperium using advanced technology is like drinking Pepsi out of a Coke bottle.

I recall an episode of Atlantis where MacKay creates one using Lantean technology, that would suggest that the Lanteans made them like that too wouldn't it?

Implied where? I recently saw the episode where they found Reese and also the one where the Asgard set the trap for the replicators with the time dillation device and don't recall that being mentioned.

It's not used after the episode where they go back in time to 1969 and they mock the idea in whatever episode had the puppets in it (200th?).

I'm not a gun person so I can't comment on that though they started with M16 type weapons, not MP5s.

He didn't "create" one using Lantean technology. He reenabled one.

In their later explanations of that episode, they explained that there was a scene that was cut wherein the scientist explained he didn't really "create" Reese, but rather found her in an Ancient outpost.

The 200th episode was them pitching ideas for a movie "based" off the SGC. Remember, there was one with zombies, a Wizard of Oz spoof, etc.
For all intents and purposes: Nothing in that episode actually happened.
And the person who mocked the idea was the movie producer, who in reality was an alien who opted to remain on Earth.

No, they didn't. SG-1 have always used MP5s. Go back to "Children of the Gods". You'll see them using MP5s with an ACOG sight and a flashlight mounted underneath. It remains that way until mid season 2/early season 3. When they introduced Ben Browder to the show, however, they swapped to the G36K and MP-7s.

M16s have always, however, been used by the "redshirts" of the show(Shanks once said "You know if you've got an M-16 that day, your character is fethed".) and the Gate Room guards.
The caveat, of course, being that once they started having Marine teams on the show, those guys started packing the G36K also.

Thanks, it's nice to have holes filled in like that.

Actually it was the script writer and I see it as a way of admitting some of the earlier themes were silly, such as Carter puppet talking about having reproductive organs on the inside.

Don't suppose you have a reason why the marines were involved instead of Army special forces? I've always found that odd. I know marines are used to guard embassies but the SG teams seem like something the army should have been involved with.
