So for the first time EVER I watched a Dr Who show. And after 2 more I have to say WOW. This is a great show! The one with this version of Dr who
So obviously, I want more. How many seasons are there? What season is the best? Is there a plot to it all or is it just a family guy situation where no show really matters? Ive gotta know!
What about the new version? Is it any good?

Which parallel universe have you arrived from KC? While most episodes/pairs of eps tend to be stand alone, i think it is best to watch in sequence as there tends to be an overriding arc or thread of references. Haven't seen the new series The David Tennant series are all pretty good and worthwhile. Some great episodes. The was a single season with (edit correct name here when remembered) and Rose as his companian. Also worth watching. You can if you wish go back to the old pre relaunched Dr Who series but would watch all the new ones first. There have also been a few specials made that are worth the time. As you can tell I am not a major afficiando but was impressed with the programme since it's relaunch with (actor whose name I still can't remember and too tired to google) hth

Christopher Eccleston, Chibi?
Anyway it was the first relaunched series had some decent parts in it. Most of the specials can be found on Youtube, the christmas charity ones not the two parters. Generally they happen about the same time and make the story for it a bit better.

Even though I dislike that show. But I respect your opinion on this show. It may be a good show in your eyes but i will never be in mine.
Let us remember this day where king cracker has fallen from sanity into insantiy. Wait. That already happened. Nevermind, let us remember the day when good shows become bad shows. As Dr. Who is a good show but it will shall burn in my inferno... Of..... Awesome super glorious shows that I will never watch because If i do i will get addicted again to another show.

It's would probally be best for you to start of at the 2005 Re-launch series and work your way up from there. There's been 4 series so far, with three different Doctors.

Isn't it five series plus a number of Christmas Specials?
I agree it is best to start with the relaunch with Chris Eccleston as The Doctor.
It is impossible to truly appreciate the impact of the relaunched series without having watched a fair number of episodes from the original show. You can't experience the sensation of seeing the Daleks and Cybermen reinvented without having watched their many earlier appearances.
The drawback of watching much of the old series, though, is that while they usually had good scripts, the special effects were often laughable. In one episode, for instance, the main monster was a man wrapped up in bubble wrap sprayed brown.
Coming to it freshly, though, you can really enjoy the new series on its own merits. Automatically Appended Next Post: If you do want to go back to the original series, it started in 1963 in black and white, and ran until the late 80s. There were six or seven different actors who player Dr Who during that time. Automatically Appended Next Post: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/

Tom Baker had quite a few story lines (though it becomes very clear towards the end of his run what is going on behind the scenes).
My wife made me a Tom Baker's Dr Who scarf. It is very long, and very warm
Not really watched a lot of the new stuff, so I can't really tell you which stories are good and which are bad.

The quality varies a bit, though nothing is actually crap. It depends partly on personal taste.
For instance, I really liked the side-step episodes such as "Love and Monsters" but some people hate them.

Tennant was generally good at first but got steadily worse over time. To be fair, this may have been due to Russel T Davies writing, I was glad that they changed head writers for the begining of the last series and Doctor.

Tom Baker and Peter Davidson were IMO the pinnacle of WHOness. The show had a budget for some really campy effects and costumes, but I think many of the story lines were really well done. Prior to that, it was seriously boring a lot of the time. After that, Colin was too much of a jerk and Sy McCoy was too goofey, turning it into more comedy and slapstick scifi. 4th and 5th doctors are IMO the golden age.

Peter Davidson wasn't very nice when my wife and I met him. However, Tom Baker said she was beautiful and nuzzled her (which is a bit strange, but hey ). Plus he does loads of great adverts for the radio and is a generally fun chap. Sylvester McCoy was also a really nice guy. Colin Baker is the only one left to meet [/nerdy wife]

P.S. as the proud owner of nearly 100 adventures on VHS, McCoy is far and away my favourite Doctor. Just a shame he followed Colin Baker (arse) and had Bonny Sodding Langford in tow. Don't chase her monsters, she'll scweam and scweam and scweam (unconvincingly of course) until her head fallth off!

Sylvester McCoy remains my favourite Doctor, despite, as has been said, inheriting the role in the nadir of it's funding and some fairly dodgy scripts, he conveys the darker Loki-like aspect of the Doctor well, he's Troughton's natural successor and a far better actor to boot.

I'd quite like to see both him and Ace return, Ace being the only companion who just sort of stopped travelling with the Doctor.
To be honest, both the characters, and those who portrayed them deserve it.

I really only watched Dr. Who (with some irregularity) during the Tom Baker episodes, and found them to be ..interesting and entertaining.
Haven't given the newest version a try,but might give it a look.
Also, I seem to recall an older film with Peter Cushing playing the role..at least I believe he was, IIRC it's title was something along the lines of "Dalek Invasion" or some such.
EDIT*...
Yes,this was it...and Peter Cushing was cast in the role .

Pertwee and Baker for me, those are the ones I grew up with and I think they always stay your favourite. I remember being horrified when I found out the new doctor was going to be 'that vet bloke' after Tom, but was pleasantly surprised. Colin Baker's time put me off and I couldn't face coming back to McCoy, the few I caught always seemed too silly (I know the whole thing's silly but..). Liked Troughton from the earlier incarnations, if I see more comparisons between him and McCoy I may consider looking a few up.
Have to say i've not been keen on any of the newer stuff I've caught. I thought Eccleston and Tennant were both good as the doctor, just didn't like the scripts.

Part of the appeal of Dr Who is the ability to renew and refresh the cast, including the central character, without losing the core continuity. Naturally this means as the characters and script writers change, your personal reaction to each show will change.
Most people's favourite Doctor is the one they grew up with, so mine is Pertwee. My least favourite is Colin Baker, though Peri was great compensation.
I rate McCoy pretty highly, though by that time I was too busy with other stuff to watch many of his episodes.

I think the writing is a lot better for Smith's ones. Certainly it pleasent to not have RTD's big gay agenda trying to shoehorns poofs into every episode. Is there a reason Dr Who shouldn't feature those on the other bus...but every episode, yeah gets a bit tiresome.

If you look at the writer credits, it wasn't Russ T Davies who wrote all the new series 1-4.
He did a lot of them and had executive oversight of the rest.
Steven Moffatt, who wrote several, took over as exec for series 5.
Mark Gatiss has written several as well as appearing in at least two.
There are half a dozen other writers credited too.

Matt Smith is the best doctor so far in the relaunch. David Tennant was very over rated, though I did like Martha Jones better than Amy (short skirt) Pond.
As for the olden days, I think a lot of people misunderstood Colin Baker. He was trying to play a very arrogant doctor that was kind of supposed to be unlikeable. Tom Baker is my favourite though.

I really liked McCoy's character, I just thought the writing was really bad at that time. He saved it as best he could with his quirkyness but that 'paradise towers', 'psychic circus' and such were just horribly thrown together seeming. I dont think it was his fault, but as a kid, I remember it getting pulled from the only channel that carried it sometime midway through I never saw more than a few episodes and the ones I did see were kind of lame, even to my 9 or 10 yr old's sense of suspension-of-disbelief.
