Ok so I just got 100 termagants from gw and to my surprise the little box of 5 termagants is a better then the box of 12. Just wanted to pass this info on to other players

Yup, as far as a $ per termagant ratio goes, the little box is the better buy.

And if you buy them online you can get them from between 10-20% off GW retail price saving you even more

It's not just the Termagants, all of GW's push-fit "booster packs" sell for cheaper than the regular minis.

Are the small box Gants the same design as the big box?

No, they're two part snap-together models, rather like Black Reach Marines compared to standard Marines.

Yes they are the same but I find only the termagant and ig boxes to be good cause who really cares if a ton of termagants and guard look the same. Also alot of the online stores don't carry the termagant box.

They're essentially the Macragge Termies. Good for boosting up. But not for me. I am a Devourer Junky!

First models I ever got. I may just buy some more since there are some diffrences. I could start a Tyranid army using tons of these box sets as my troops.

Do they contain the same weapon options as the regular gaunt box? I'd not want to run plain old gaunts. I'd want them with devourers. I guess if you just need to spam a lot of regular gaunts in a tervigon type army the little boxes are definitely better.

If you want an exact breakdown, it is:

Space Marine Tactical Squad: 10 Marines, $37.50 ($3.70 per marine)
Space Marine Combat Squad: 5 Marines, $22.50 ($4.50 per marine)
"Space Marines": 3 marines, $8.75 (2.91 per marine)

with generally similar packs\pricing for other armies, like Chaos.

Note that both the combat squad and the 3-packs lack any special weapons, making the Combat Squad option truly the worst value per marine both in terms of price and features.

Which is better because you don't have:

1. 2 piece heads.
2. Fiddly arms to put in place.

They're the Battle for McDonald's Termagants, and they're very good models for bulking up units.

Combat squad is best used for bringing your Devastators up to a 10 man unit. The 3 Marines can be used for this, but you'd have a spare one left over. Also worth noting the UK pricing seems slightly different on many of these boxes.

Its quite easy to convert these snap pack models to hold special weapons. I converted some snap pack Termagants to hold Devourers.

No doubt, I have some AOBR marines that are now holding magnetized meltaguns as a swap for their magnetized flamers. However, you need to obtain those special weapons from somewhere, and if you bought them as bitz off ebay, then you wiped out any savings you would have gotten from just buying the 10 pack. Your mileage may vary. You also might already have a large pile of special weapon bitz or swap them for little to no cost on the swap shop.

Yeah, I've not purchased any of the big box of Gaunts for a long while other than second hand, I just get a bunch of the small box snap Gaunts.

I did have a large amount of devourers. I have started converting the Warriors of Chaos from there snap pack.

Combat squad is best for nothing. The 3 marines x2 is cheaper than the combat squad of five, even if you smash the extra one with a sledgehammer. If you want 5 marines from the full sprues, order from a bits site.
Never buy the combat squad.

Cheap but no posing. I can't stand to stare at 60 of the exact same model.
